Yes, I started reading again and it’s been so so good for my mental health.

I try and find a spot in the sun and read where I can. I live in a cold country where sunlight and vitamin D is hard to come by. The combination does a lot for me

u/thunerstormstriccl 4h ago

Putting things back where they belong immediately! I learned the hard way

7

u/Virtual-Fly-5501 4h ago

And picking up clutter as you see it. A couple years ago I just started forcing myself to just do stuff like that and it became a habit.

Same, started doing that just 2 weeks ago but already I feel miles better.

u/DragonsLoooveTacos 4h ago

I started matching the energy that everybody brought to me. The trash took itself out within 6 months. Life is more peaceful than ever.

Getting off social media

12

u/Captain_Cunt42069 4h ago

I believe Reddit is categorized as social media.

15

u/Strange-Turnip-8829 4h ago

OK, smarty pants. You caught me. I use Reddit, but I don’t use Instagram or TikTok, which really fueled my anxiety.

6

u/bigred83 4h ago

I got off traditional social media, but I don’t use this in the same way most people use social media. There’s no drama about who liked what. I don’t care if I get internet points, etc.

4

u/n00bert210 4h ago

My anxiety dropped a ton by doing this.

Putting things back where they belong right away.

It sounds trivial, but it quietly removes a lot of daily friction and mental clutter.

So how did you read this post, hmmmm?

Pilates in the last year. I got so much stronger, my posture is better and I never have back pain anymore. You know when you do one wrong move and suffer for days kinda pain. Having visible abs at 41 is also not bad.

4

u/Excellent_Release961 4h ago

Sometimes jobs require it. Wish it wasnt that way, but it do be that way sometimes.

2

u/10ngbr0wnb14ck 4h ago

i have more hrs out the day, plus i can more money from my side job🤣

2

u/JohnPoet27 4h ago

Nah, each day only has 24hrs, no matter when you wake up... you (and people like you) are the reason the world is so hostile towards us night owls

1

u/10ngbr0wnb14ck 4h ago

wake up at 6am and go to bed around 11pm, nothing against night owls🤣 on the weekends i’ll be up til 2-3am

2

u/bluestone666 4h ago

It feels personal and fits the casual tone of Reddit.

1

u/Lopsided-Eye-3574 4h ago

I want to try this. do you leave your phone out of reach or something? I always end up on it the second I wake up

2

u/10ngbr0wnb14ck 4h ago

i set an alarm and then boom im up🤣

1

u/Obvious_Reaction_182 4h ago

My cats get me up at 6am Sunday to Sunday. Helps when it’s M-F when I need to work but weekends can simmer down for an hour

2

u/10ngbr0wnb14ck 4h ago

dang thats actually rough, but maybe they just appreciate your active presence

1

u/Glass_Chance9800 4h ago

When do you go to sleep?

1

u/AbdussamiT 3h ago

Similar (not same), I was dropping my daughter at school and coming back to sleep or have breakfast.

Now we (me and wife) drop her, go to park and have a stroll, then come back and have breakfast OR have breakfast at some place. 100% recommend.

It’s like I’ve unlocked a new part of the day that existed since adulthood but was being used to compensate for bad sleep etc.

2

u/10ngbr0wnb14ck 3h ago

and im pretty sure its something you look forward to as well, just some time with you and your wife

1

u/AbdussamiT 2h ago

Yep, it's actually improved our relationship!

We help each other, we talk more, and we have yummy breakfast. Sometimes I get her breakfast*, sometimes she cooks amazing breakfast for me.

* she doesn't let me cook unfortunately, hehe. Just cutely

Started a budget

Dug me out of debt and turned my life around. Felt like a real grown up one I was controlling my finances, rather than letting them control me.

7

u/Generic_Midwesterner 4h ago

Recognizing that the use of "quietly" in a headline or post usually means it's AI.

5

u/sassyhairstylist 4h ago

"Don't set it down. Put it away."

And I repeat that to myself every single time I try to "set something down" to get my hands free instead of just putting it back where it belongs. Do I still "set things down"? Yes. But I'm doing a lot a lot better. And it's kept me a lotttttt more tidy. I just struggle with the things that don't really have a place/finding some things a place.

u/This_Tumbleweed_7672 4h ago

Many of our habits change our lives for the worse

4

u/Ok_Gazelle_4458 4h ago

standing up for myself

3

u/Tired_Dad_9521 4h ago

I started bicycle commuting. It’s a 1/2 hour each way vs 15 minutes in my car, but when you add finding a spot and parking it comes out about them same. I save $10 every day in parking + gas costs, I build in an hour of cardio 4-5 days a week, and it’s good for the environment. It’s definitely the best thing I do for myself regularly.

3

u/flaming_munchkins 4h ago

Locking my car doors as soon as I get in.

1

u/sqqueen2 3h ago

How has this changed your life?

1

u/BungusMungungus 2h ago

I'm curious as well, must be a story behind it.

3

u/RivenAlder42 4h ago

Planning tomorrow before bed makes mornings less stressful

3

u/Eeeegah 4h ago

I just stopped eating sugar. Bought natural peanut butter. Drank water instead of soda. Stopped buying cookies etc. Lost 15 pounds like it was nothing.

u/RedditNotIncluded 1h ago

All well & good but my dick isn't getting sucked as much as I would like!

People just started calling me Grant O'Brien.

2

u/CapnAwesme 4h ago

Going to the gym at lunch instead of fast food with coworkers.

2

u/AcanthisittaHot2530 4h ago

Stopped overthinking things I can't control.

Still working on it, but life's been a lot more peaceful 😊

2

u/Purple_Reserve994 4h ago

Eating less. I stopped eating after 7 and it’s helped me to lose weight and keep it off.

2

u/hippiespinster 4h ago

Eating earlier in the evening. I sleep better now.

2

u/altiif 4h ago

Working out or being active every day. Even if it’s for 20 minutes.

2

u/surSEXECEN 3h ago

I started automating my finances. I’m Adhd so paying bills, budgeting and saving money are challenging. Setting up automatic transfers to investment accounts, automatic bill payments and setting aside a portion of each paycheque for municipal taxes each month has eliminated the need for a budget.

Within two days of my pay landing, all of my fixes expenses come out and I can freely spend what’s left.

u/VesperValance 2h ago

Becoming a morning person....i get so much more done

2

u/PortableClock84 4h ago

Skin peeling habit, Started with my thumbs with no skin on and I silently did it over years and now my thumbs extending to my hands are raw

5

u/PapiStruwing 4h ago

Gotta get better, keep pushing! My whole arms up to my elbows are skinless, except for my index fingers and thumbs for maximum efficiency

3

u/Turbulent_Echidna423 4h ago

Dancing.

I found a really welcoming weekly dance community. By being social AND artistic AND mentally engaging, it has become the only exercise routine I've ever kept up with.

Starting with an easy dance style (contra dance) got me trying others, which I spinkle into my month when convenient.

My cardio & coordination is better. I was really surprised when I even built muscle (though the alternative was doing nothing, so not TOO surprised). It's been real nice to be in my 30s and have some pants stop fitting because my waist shrunk and my calves & thighs are too muscly.

I've also met loads of new friends, gotten a lot more comfortable with my body, and traveled a bunch pursuing this hobby. Definitely life-changing.

1

u/sqqueen2 4h ago

Love contra dance! :)

1

Putting things away immediately instead of setting them down for later

1

u/Lousable 4h ago

Putting up boundaries. Not everyone that comes into your life has the best intentions. Pick and choose who you give your time and energy too.

1

u/Djinjja-Ninja 4h ago

Picking up the things on the stairs and dealing with them instead of "I'll do that later".

1

u/Mrmirelurk 3h ago

Draw every day i improve a lot this way.

Morning sunlight

1

u/Muted_Negotiation613 1h ago

I stopped giving an immediate "yes" to every favor or invitation. For many years , my default was to agree to everything on the spot , not bcoz I actually had the time or energy , but bcoz saying no felt rude. I was constantly overcommitted resentful and exhausted.

it sounds simple but making sure to gather all the dishes I leave spread around my home at the end of the day, which also helped me keep the rest of the house clean on a daily basis. I mention it specifically because it's always been hard for me to do cleaning and I decided to focus on the starter, and this is my starter. It's worked great for me
