Men of Reddit, to what extent would you feel offended if a woman covered her drink around you to prevent it from being spiked, and why?

I wouldn't mind, I feel sorry for the fact that women have to be this careful nowadays. It's deeply saddening and disgusting.

Safety matters more than anyone's ego.

If its a woman I barely know or don't know at all, I definitely wouldn't be upset. Can't be too safe and it truly can be anyone thats dangerous. If it was like a good friend, I'd be pretty shocked because the women in my life have always seemed to trust me a lot, but I wouldn't say anything about it

I agree with this. But I would also pull back from the friendship - if a friend doesn't even trust me with their drink we arnt friends IMO

If it was a close friend....maybe a little. Someone I just met? Non-issue. My wife? Upset.

Like i give a shit its not my drink

Not. She doesn't know me from Adam.

Do what u gotta do to be safe. No worries on my end.

I would give her space and move on.

4

u/GamemakerK33 9h ago

No offense taken and just leaving her alone, safety for others is first whenever an interaction happens.

If we are in a public space, honestly im probably not even going to notice what she's doing because my attention isn't focused on that sort of stuff. If this is someone in my home, I'd simply ask them to leave. If you're not comfortable having an open liquid around me, than you shouldn't be in my home in the first place.

Wild. So women can't be drugged at a party hosted by a friend?

What a strange question

2

u/hannelore_pfeffer8 9h ago

Why?

2

u/PresentMusician1997 8h ago

I understood the question as “guys, would you be offended if a woman does something bc she wants to protect herself from being drugged”. A heinous question since a guys ego should have absolutely no bearing on what a women does to keep herself safe.

2

u/hannelore_pfeffer8 8h ago

And that's why i ask

1

u/Powerful_Cupcake6964 9h ago

Agreed

2

u/hannelore_pfeffer8 8h ago

Why??

2

u/Fun-Gap-210 8h ago

I thought it was a good ask.

be a woman and see why we do it. no one should be offended from that. we can't even fucking do errands without sickos cat calling. y'all have no freaking idea how uncomfortable it is

Coasters should have a straw hole so this is simply normalized... Random drunk strangers aren't the most trustworthy individuals

2

u/PretendingExtrovert 8h ago

You are talking about a lid.

1

u/HyperionSunset 7h ago

Yes, but it seems less expensive to just add a hole to a thing bars already purchase/offer

2

u/GaryOster 7h ago

Found a Wharton grad in the wild over here!

1

u/timtucker_com 5h ago

Coasters usually just get wiped down.

Things your mouth touch go through a dishwasher to get sanitized.

If you use a coaster as a lid, you wind up with something that could alternately be touching your mouth or the table.

1

u/HyperionSunset 5h ago

Think I've only ever seen disposable coasters

1

u/PretendingExtrovert 4h ago

Coasters never get wiped down, they are dirt sponges then they get thrown away.

2

u/Htennn 9h ago

I wouldn’t blame any woman for doing that. As a man I wouldn’t care at all.

1

u/QuickSign5503 9h ago

I wouldn't be offended at all, everyone needs to protect themselves because nobody else will

1

u/Koankey 9h ago

Gotta protect yourself out there. Foreigners to Brazil have to do the same when they're out late messing around with the ladies of the night out there. But if I noticed a pattern of women covering their drinks around me, I'd think I'd need to gain some self awareness on how I come across.

1

u/mageskillmetooften 9h ago

If she doesn't know me yet, good for her that she's taking her safety serious.

1

u/eatmeat2016 9h ago

If I was a woman I think I’d make a point of doing this with a cup of coffee in a work meeting.

1

u/rubey419 9h ago

I honestly would take it as

“Bartender / Waiter do not take this I am still drinking”

I do the same when I go to the bathroom as a guy

1

u/bradpitt2624 9h ago

Not offended at all. Her safety comes first, and I’d rather she feel comfortable around me.

1

u/ACcbe1986 8h ago

I would just see that this is a rather safe, than sorry type of person.

However, I know many self-centered people would take this as an insult rather than a safety reflex.

1

u/tsummers305 8h ago

I wouldn’t, it’s common place that everyone should take precautions. Especially if they don’t know me but even if they do then it’s ok. I mean do we really know anyone?

u/rubey419 8h ago edited 8h ago

OP can you provide more the context of this scenario?

Are we on a date?

Just met at the bar sitting beside each other talking and friendly?

Not talking and not friendly just sitting at the bar near each other?

Are you going to the bathroom?

Or are we talking and you cover the drink the moment you stop sipping your cup? Repeating over and over after each sip?

Or is this a fraternity college party?

Basically if you do not leave the cup and we are chatting and you cover with napkin every time after a sip…. Yes I will ask you why you’re doing that. I would then assure you I am not a rapist.

-1

u/hannelore_pfeffer8 8h ago

Apl of the above

1

u/rubey419 8h ago

Yes by 3rd time you do it and we are talking one on one, I would know what you’re doing and try to assure you I have no date rape drugs and that’s not the guy I am at all

Not offended. Understanding.

1

u/Volcano_Turtle_Glow 8h ago

Not offended. I respect prioritizing safety.

1

u/TheChosenOperator 8h ago

In the moment I probably wouldnt say anything or think much about it

I agree that its sad women have to do these types of things, I'd probably be a bit offended but it wouldnt last longer than like, 15 minutes until I forget about it

1

u/SawtoothCampion 8h ago

I get why she’s doing it. Normal looking guys can turn out to be very sick minded people. Just sucks that she has to do it.

1

u/Generico300 8h ago

I mean, if we're friends I would be offended. Otherwise I would probably just take it as a hint to walk away because I'm making her nervous for some reason.

1

u/Ryan-Updog 5h ago

Doesn’t offend me. In fact I encourage it.

1

u/True-Source-6512 4h ago

I’d feel super offended and then avoid them. Simple

1

u/barbzilla1 4h ago

I would be curious as to why she thought I would do it, but otherwise I really wouldn't be bothered by it. People should be protecting themselves if they don't trust who they are with.

1

u/Obvious_Subject2691 2h ago

Would never happen to me, and has never happened to me. Mostly because I'm married, but also because I'm not a douchebag.

But if it did somehow happen in this hypothetical scenario, I'd simply respect their space and walk away. I don't know why you would let something like that bother you.

1

u/ace3k1 2h ago

Short answer no

1

u/comacove 1h ago

ive never been close to seeing a girl do this around me, so i think i would be wtf'ing in my head if one day a girl did. how offended would i be? i dunno, id def be questioning wtf i did to make her do that.

1

u/MoonNewer 9h ago edited 9h ago

Not at all.

Edit: It would remind me to be aware that it happens and 1 second of that awareness could literally save a persons life.

1

u/MardawgNC 9h ago

Zero percent offended. Its a dangerous world.

1

u/d_philipsen 9h ago

I would not feel offended at all. You can never be too safe

1

u/Old-Line-3691 9h ago

I've no interest in being around someone who doesn't trust me, and being past that point is a hard requirement for me to want to spend time with someone. While I would not be offended, my time is to important to me, to spend on trying to build trust with strangers.

1

u/ryanbuckner 9h ago

Not one bit. So many of these date rape situations are from men that women trusted. Protect themselves at all cost I say.

1

u/Frequent-Try-6746 9h ago

Zero offense by her action.

100% offended by her needing to take such action.

Human history proves that she's being prudent.

1

u/racerx2oo3 9h ago

I’m so oblivious there’s about a 1% chance I’d even notice and then almost a 0% chance that I’d care.

1

u/RS_Meris 9h ago

No offense. Hell, depending on the place I might cover my drink as well.

-1

u/CMarlowe 9h ago

I'd just stop talking to her, probably. She can think whatever she wants, and I'm married besides.

-1

u/yoursandforever 9h ago

I wouldn't be offended but I'd be wondering where she's been spending her time.

-2

u/al_vicado 9h ago

Just leave, she doesn't trust you

-1

u/gypsytron 9h ago

“Ma’am I kissed my mother on the lips until I was 9. I am going home and playing Star wars video games after like one drink. Let’s just calm down.”

-3

u/MalesaurusRex 9h ago

Safety is paramount. I can’t be offended because a bunch of gay ass chads ruined bar conversations. If I had to walk around feeling like a target or prey like most women are forced to do, I’d barely go outside. It’s gotta be shitty to feel like that
