The fact that he chose to watch The Lord of the Rings on the last night of his life is truly remarkable. It shows his passion for the stories he brought to life on the big screen. He was a true legend.

A million modern film makers couldn't top the lotr films even if given a hundred years to do it.

He'll always be Dracula to me. The 2 screen theatre I worked at in 79 had that film with the poster proclaiming "He comes at night". Good times.

LOTR trilogy will indeed never die, the visuals are timeless (besides some CGI that is aging) and that's pretty much the sole reason why some movies are considered "too old", it's hard for newer generations to watch star wars 4,5,6 for example but it won't be for LOTR (except for ipad kid who have their attention fried)

I don't have kids. But if i ever do then i want to sit with them and watch the director's cut of all 3 movies. Then talk about it's meaning, the values etc. Then watch them again.

When this movie was made, it was a perfect storm coming together. Chances are low that this would happen again soon.
Not even Peter Jackson has been able to do anything that comes close.

They are more elaborate but the movies catch the spirit of them remarkably well.
