Discussion A kurdish account posting the head of Mar Benyamin Shimun (1887–1918) who was the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East held by simko shitkak (pictured here) who murdered Mar Benyamin Shimun without provocation and is still regarded as “hero” amongst kurdish nationalists today.

This is one of many pictures that they have out on social media that they post on a regular basis. I saw more of this on Twitter/X 2 years ago so they still continue to do this on a regular basis with new iterations of the genocide and murder of our people.

The hypocritical and asinine part is that they act like victims, complaining about being abused by Turks and Syrians when it comes to their illegal seizure of our lands - lands for which they are then met with force, and then turn around and do this because of internet debates about them being Medes, or having ties to antiquity, or any other bogus claims they insist on making, which some Assyrians challenge.

I second this!! u/Specific-Bid6486 here is the website of the university: https://sulicihan.edu.krd/ and their contact is ‎email: [info@sulicihan.edu.krd](mailto:info@sulicihan.edu.krd)

You should be able to contact them in English bc it's an English institution.

According to their Student Code of Conduct ( https://cihanuniversity.edu.iq/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Students-Handbook.pdf - note, this is for the Erbil campus but I'm assuming the CoC is across the entire university), this person is NOT fulfilling their obligations:

Each student has the responsibility:

  • To respect and protect the rights of others
  • To recognize, respect, and appreciate diversity and conduct him/herself in a - manner to enrich the University community
  • To recognize and understand the obligation the University has to provide a safe - and healthy environment conducive to pursuing knowledge and learning

also under the Student Code of Conduct:

Students have rights and responsibilities. Students’ freedom and rights include but are not limited to:

  • Freedom to live in an environment devoid of psychological or physical threats
  • Freedom to live in a safe environment devoid of violence
  • Freedom from unfair treatment from others

Don't hesitate to report. Racist people are usually deplorable in general so I am sure you would be doing a favour for his future colleagues

He’s a nobody. Just report him and get him banned. If he lives in a country that polices violent speech, report him to the authorities

Absolutely disgusting as a Kurd I condemn this corny and hateful behavior

There are so many posts like this. Just earlier this month, a video sharing Assyrian students in Duhok singing our national anthem was met with hundreds of similar responses. Hatred in the KRI is normalized against Assyrians, and they have the power to act on that racism, which is extremely terrifying.

They're basically using the same playbook that Turkey & Azerbaijan are using against Armenians, Build a national mythos and create a national "boogeyman". Part of that national mythos is a list of heroes who fought for the "nation" but the political Kurds idiotically chose Simko hoping to raise him as their "Osman Ottoman"

That guy must actually be mentally unstable if he is posting that.

Serious question though... Out of all the Kurds in history, why Simko? The guy wasn't even fighting for any kind of "Kurdistan"... His goal of autonomy was basically going back to how Hakkari was in the 1800s where both Assyrians and Kurds lived independently from the Ottoman government which was something Assyrians and Kurds wanted anyway...

he is tragic but at the end of the day, he chose to be a robber, chose to kill people, and chose to be tribal. Not exactly the kind of person that fits the description of a hero.

Why are you surprised, my brother? The mentality of most Kurds is the same as his.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '26

Disagree. Their mentalities differ from person to another.

3

u/Basel_Assyrian Assyrian Jun 23 '26

I know them well; most of them share this mentality. Since I've known them, I've only encountered four people who refused and were subjected to insults by Kurdish extremists.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '26

If Kurds were all the same mentality, then you coulld have seen similar photos for Samko above on their FB pages all.
My fingers are different in length, maybe yours look all alike?

2

u/Basel_Assyrian Assyrian Jun 23 '26

I've seen many pictures of Simko in their profiles

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '26

Many - 10? They are 40 Millions.

And many Assyrians carrying the photos of Petrus Agha and many Sunni Arabs carrying photos of Saddam and Shea carrying photos of Khaminaie / Khumaini or Suleimani

It is ok to disagree.

1

u/Basel_Assyrian Assyrian Jun 24 '26

This isn't a difference; this is support for criminals. The Kurdish factions consider Simko a national hero. Do you want me to ask 40 million people for you to believe me? LOL. It seems the Kurds have manipulated your emotions.

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

None of the Kurds I knew liked Barzani fyi.
And btw I am constantly known as emotionless / stone cold man as I don't smile and don't get angered.

And you have to QUIT THIS MENTALITY to succeed in your future. You are accusing everyone you disagree with to be a conspiracist hater (you did that to me as well as all Kurds).

This is the mentality of SUNNIs of northern Iraq, who accuse anyone against them by being either a Zionist conspiracist or Iranian supporter. You just did the same.
Be a Christian not a Sunni :)
You see where the sunnis are now ... owned and lost.

u/Basel_Assyrian Assyrian Jun 29 '26

My brother, when will you understand? This isn't about Barzani. Our problem isn't with him; it's with the Kurdish mentality that rejects the land of Assyria and the Assyrian people, labeling them Nestorians to deny their Assyrian identity. Even if Barzani were to leave, nothing would change. These Kurds are opportunists here, trying to deceive you. If they were truly serious, they would go and convince their own people instead of coming to Assyrian pages. As for your comparison to the Sunnis, it's a flawed comparison. The Sunnis are very similar to the Kurds: narcissistic and selfish. Alliances should be based on mutual benefit, not subservience. What did the Assyrians gain from their alliance with the Kurds other than killing and displacement? And when they got their own region, they threw us out the window. Anyone who doesn't recognize the land of Assyria and the Assyrian people is neither a partner nor a friend; they are an enemy, and there's no relationship with them until they change their mentality. As for the Sunnis, it's about greed for power. No one denies their ethnicity or their sect, which is the opposite of what most Kurds do to the Assyrians.

I am orthodox, from Nusaybin Area, born in Baghdad.
* If Barzani for some reason fades away, guess who the replacement is? Islamist Kurds :)
Since when did Kurds win a battle, against Arabs? Turks? Persians? None historically!!!!
Since when did Assyrians win a war against Persians? 2000 BC. Arabs? Turks? None.

We are in the same pot with them. It is neither us nor them. Turkey has to be eliminated, and Iran divided into 10 pieces for them to claim a single square kilometer from Kurdistan - Iran.

Other than that: Nohdra, Zaxo, Erbil Cizre Mardin Nusaybin Amid, Urhay are Assyrian words not Kurdish words, it tells everything. (btw Bagh-dad is a Persian word, enough said)

The faili Kurd old neighbor of mine told me: we are becoming a mini-Israel, occupying lands of people who didn't find someone to lead them and give them justice:

Those were his words in 1998. He certainly means us.

Our problem is not the Kurd: We are divided, our biggest scam is the word "Chaldean" which never fits, our land is upper Syria not Babylon.
Our main historic division is the church leadership itself; we were all Nestorians originally then Orthodox then Chaldean Catholic. Too many chiefs too little Indians.

Maybe he is trying to get a job through party activism? As he failed on the ground, he will try digital activism.

We can use the same AI and post a photo of Shakaks head in an Iranian hand. I can do the same for Saddam and Khaminees hands, same for Khaminaes head and Trumps hand, Nasrallah in Netanyahus hands.

But what is the point?

3

u/SciStone_ Turoyo Jun 21 '26

Why are you sharing this here, why do you give this filth a bigger platform?
The same shit happens in every assyrian community on the internet, always some assyrian stepping in shit while walking outside, then coming into the house dragging it everywhere and telling people to look at it and be angry at the dog who shat outside.

i'm sick of it.

5

u/SciStone_ Turoyo Jun 21 '26

you accomplish nothing but raising our blood pressure.

we are all aware of horrible people existing. Assyrian communities shouldnt be utilized as angry mobs.

u/Apart-Temperature329 Jun 23 '26

Many Kurdish nationalists are, ehm, not the nicest when it comes to the other groups in the lands they took over, and they happen to have early 20th century kind of nationalist sentiments at play. It's just typical.

Look.. as a Kurd I’m so sorry for these kinds of examples you really shouldn’t judge everyone from one single person, he probably doesn’t actually know the weight of pain this person put your people thru.. we don’t really learn much about them, I’m sorry this person made u feel bad, we shouldn’t hate eachothers we have more things in common than we think 🤍🙏

I agree that we need to work together but I don't see any issue with calling out racism like this. And the same for any Assyrian who mocks Kurdish people in a racist way, that should also be called out. Obviously this guy isn't representative of all Kurdish people but no one should be under the impression that you can post anything on the internet without any repercussions especially if its harmful content

1

u/Basel_Assyrian Assyrian Jun 23 '26

Do the Kurds accept the existence of Assyria? And why would you want us to share our home with occupiers who have clearly played on your emotions with sweet words like "We love the Assyrians" and "We support the Assyrian state," yet they don't even mention the borders of that state. We shouldn't be emotional and naive enough to be deceived by such words. The solution is separation; only then will the relationship improve. Otherwise, the current situation won't change. Anyone who knows the Kurds well knows they are a narcissistic people, and this narcissism will only be broken when the Assyrians get their land and accept the existence of an Assyrian entity. As for the words of these Kurds who are deceiving you, they are nothing but lies.
