Just don’t put the shorts away is all we’re saying

u/man_gomer_lot 1d ago
Last time we had 5 days in a row without shorts weather, they called it a snowpocalypse

You're not the boss of me. I declare today as False Fall Day.

Funny story - One year during SXSW there was a small chalkboard of acts playing on 6th by one of the pizza places. It said 2PM: THE FALL — I geeked. Of course they'd do that. I waited. Fitting of the band to pull almost a prank and play on the street. I couldn't believe how smart that seemed.
It ended up not being Mark E Smith or The Fall, at all, but a metal band completely unaware they'd taken the name of the best band of all time. The metal band was okay, though.
False Fall, I declared, back then!

FALSE FALL-AH!, surely, delivered via megaphone and/or two mics simultaneously.

u/GuyanaFlavor-Aid 1d ago
I remember driving by Waterloo and seeing a banner with their free day shows and it listed The Zombies. Me and my buddy flipped out and then the next day we're talking it down like "if this is some other band that stole the name let's just pretend we knew it and don't act surprised." Turned out to be the actual Zombies though when they were just getting back into doing shows, it was incredible.
But I'm a Fall fan, too, and I'd be pissed, heh.

I love False Fall Day, tho. It's like the one day of every year I don't hate.
So I'll take it.

That’s how they enjoy the weather, bitching about future weather

I mean, sort of. I'm from NYC, and there's something uniquely beautiful about a strong false spring. Seeing uniquely flash frozen little colorful buds, one last breath of snow? It's really nice. False fall means this nice calming cool. You can really get out in the woods and go for a run. You can just take a nice deep cool breath as you get your blood pumping. Then you get to swim again in 90 degree weather for a little longer. It isn't all bad.

We're back near 90 on Thursday. So this weekend is False Fall.

u/nickleback_official 1d ago
Below 90 is fall. Stop pretending you don’t live in Texas.

83 counts as fall to me after so many years here
12
u/Ok_Abbreviations4455 1d ago
Even ‘near 90’ counts as fall to me. A high of 90 feels a lot different than 103.
5
u/Super_Fightin_Robit 1d ago
It'll also be a DRYer 90. Crisp and dry 90 is a very different feeling than humid as fuck summer 90.
10
u/DoesntEnjoySoup 1d ago
Yeah, I never understood people complaining when it’s in the 80s. It’s like yeah, we’ve just been in the high 90s for months, what the hell do you want? This is Texas…
3
u/lLoveMess 1d ago
I'm showing a high of 79 on Thursday but even 90 would be fine. That's for sure the beginnings of Fall weather and it will get nicer from here.
What a beautiful 10 day forecast we have right now.
1
u/Traditional-Set2668 1d ago
Even though the high is literally 80 degrees on Thursday
3
u/Wisewordsforlater 1d ago
KXAN 7 day forecast says 89 next Thursday.
1
u/Traditional-Set2668 1d ago
Apple weather says 81. You should try Colorado if Texas is too hot.

u/harland3 1d ago
I'm just an observer, a passerby who overheard this conversation.
I agree with you, the false fall stuff is annoyingly negative and overplayed. But I have to object to your "Get out of my state if you're not like me" rebuttal, that's also negative and overplayed.

83 after months of high 90s absolutely counts as fall here. Just do not put the shorts away before Thursday.

Hey now why don't you let people enjoy their moment of feeling superior to all the dummies who dare to enjoy a little nice weather!

u/GirlForce1112 1d ago
Uh. It’s going back up to the mid-upper 80s in three days. That’s false Fall. And yes it is guaranteed. Every year.

Why do y'all care so much, just enjoy the weather when its nice. Move if you hate it here. Climate change forked everything up and there's no more predictable pattern to go off of anymore.

🚨new to Austin alert🚨

u/DoesntEnjoySoup 1d ago
The entirety of fall in Texas is a “false fall.” You could get 95 degrees on thanksgiving and people would be like “SeE I tOlD yOu” but it’s like… yeah, Texas weather is literally all over the place, all the time. Enjoy the nice days when they’re here but don’t pretend like you are cooler than everyone else because you moved here in 2008 and think you know the Texas weather pattern better than anyone.
Spoiler: nobody knows Texas weather patterns because it’s fucking nuts

u/smacktalker987 1d ago
Texas weather is literally all over the place, all the time
nah summer is not all over the place, it's the same thing every day for months on end

u/DoesntEnjoySoup 1d ago edited 1d ago
You mean like how this summer it rained for like 3 weeks straight?
Edit: this summer to satisfy the pedant
1
u/smacktalker987 1d ago
July through September we had 6 days total with rainfall over .1 inch at ABIA
1
u/DoesntEnjoySoup 1d ago
Austin received a total of 11.14 inches of rain during the meteorological summer of 2026 (June through August). [1]
Monthly breakdown at Camp Mabry:
June: 6.50 inches (wettest start, 8th wettest June on record)
July: 4.24 inches (above normal)
August: 0.40 inches (hot and dry) [1, 2]
Overall, the seasonal total came in about 2.76 inches above the historical average.1
u/smacktalker987 1d ago
doesn't negate what I said at all, and you switched the month range
2
u/DoesntEnjoySoup 1d ago
Lmao your point was “summer is the same every single day.” My point was sometimes summer will randomly dump water all over you. Both of us made my point, so thanks!
1
u/Super_Fightin_Robit 1d ago
Our patterns follow trend lines. Maybe it'll be hot, like before the current cold spell, but it won't be AS hot.
Maybe it'll be 60 this week, but this one time in 2021 it was 65 and then the next week it was 5 and there so much ice a bunch of people froze to death or from CO poisoning trying to cook at home.
Then it bounced between 40s and 60s like normal for the rest of the season.

u/nameless_sameness 1d ago
It’s almost proper autumnal weather. But wait a few days; it’ll be “false summer.”

It ain’t false fall if the golden rod and frostweed are blooming. My bees are very active.

What!? And have people have no meaningful activity in their otherwise meaningless life! WTF do you think social media exists for?

People who say this shit are carpet agger recent arrivals who cling to and use what they wrongly believe to be local humor or beliefs.
1
u/Vybrosit737373 20h ago
What people really enjoy is not sweater weather but rather opportunities to say how awful everything is.
1
u/Virtual_Elephant_730 16h ago
The nonstop complaint about the weather gets me here too. This is what fall feels like here. Next week too when it’s warmer.
People compare it to the northeast or something.

u/FlopShanoobie 1d ago
Look, I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops Christmas Day last year.
Just accept the climate is broken, it’s our fault, and however cool it gets over the next 3 months is as cool as fall will ever be again.

Do you not see the irony in you making a comment about other peoples comments about “false fall”?
0
u/LillianWigglewater 1d ago
It's just people that think 80 degrees is still summer.
Summer in Texas is upper 90's and 100's. Fall is 80's.

Why, yes it is. I requested it especially for you.
FYI my entire response is in jest as are most of the folks responding to your post.
It’s all a bit of fun. I wasn’t going to into Canva and whip out an image just a bit of fun.

u/ATXCaitlin 1d ago
this makes the fact you used ai for this even worse.

u/AustEastTX 1d ago
I literally can do it myself but it would take me 20 minutes and it was a joke. I hate AI too.
-1
u/ShopEmpress 1d ago
Obviously you don't if you felt the need to go use it for making a joke. It is still is AI even if you think it was just for fun.

Well techincally fall/autumn isnt a weather type. Its a time of year.
Astronomical: September 21st/22nd - December 21st/22nd depending on the year
Meteorological: September 1st - December 1st
So, its fall/autumn either way you look at it.
