i was overjoyed at being able to sell my petrol car from 2018 at 41% of the original cost so i could buy a 2022 ev still with one year warranty remaining at 50% of its price new

yay!

The tone sounds sarcastic but the stats make it sound like a good deal. Might be misunderstanding

no no i think it was a great deal Subaru xv swap for ioniq 5

but the ioniq 5 awd (not the n) are very rare. when i bought mine there were only 2 private sellers in my city

yeah maybe the iccu dies but its got 11 years warranty left on the iccu

we considered a trail seeker or uncharted but the huge wheelbase of the ioniq 5 makes the cabin huge and luxurious.

and, no manufacturer telemetry or internet connectivity means we'll be safe when AI takes over the internet

even nrma wouldn't let me insure the car on their website for as low as i bought. had to call them.

so the chinese EVs has forced depreciation on the second hand ev market too

also Hyundai's insane to ask 95k on non N awd ioniq 5 for new ones. literally insane

She was thrilled when they eventually found a 2013 Hyundai Accent for $12,500 at a dealership last month which had done 50,000 kilometres. “The fact that we have

Surely despite the low kms it shouldn’t be worth more than $5-$6k

I noticed this too and thought, damn that's $$$.

They stopped selling the Accent in Australia in 2019.

Keeping my second car diesel for bug out purposes. If grid goes down I have a backup.
Otherwise right now, EV is no-brainer.

When my local fuel station had no power recently they couldn't pump fuel. It's more likely in extreme circumstances you'll be able to find or make a source of electricity than diesel.

You think they would have a generator lol

I think if you had to pump with a generator they'd be selling at a loss or massively increasing the cost at the bowser.

The grid going down is why I have both an EV and a home battery

I have 18 kW of pannels and a big battery. No grid, no worries.

Umm that doesn’t matter if you need to go far

If it was that grim I suspect you wouldn't be on the road very long.

Most people in here wouldn't know where to go anyway. They're city slickers

I live in the country, and I don't know what you're talking about.

You gonna go live in a cave like Dezi Freeman and forage for wild mushshrooms?

Cheaper to buy some portable solar panels.

same diesel and ev now

diesel gets filled up once every 3months? or basically for school holidays

So understanding where you are coming from. Looking at an EV or PHEW BUT keeping my HyLux for when that time come

Same here,I purchased a second vehicle(petrol)purely as a back up.EV wins hands down though.

Where is your diesel hookup when the grid goes down?

2

u/OriginalGoldstandard 7h ago

Have you not seen Mad Max? That’s me

Diesel also has a grid tho but I appreciate having a broader redundancy

A sterling engine generator would be the best redundancy as you can use anything that combusts as fuel

This should have been happening in 2000!

I wish.

I drove this back in 2003: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_Propulsion_tZero

I wanted to start importing the motors and controllers (which is what AC Propulsion sells), but at $40k USD (when the exchange rate was 50c) the cost was untenable by itself. The real kicker was that in all my market research, there was absolutely zero interest.

In all the car clubs I visited, all of the people in the car industry I spoke to, not a single person wanted an EV.

Just got in and traded my 2019 cx5 Maxx sport for 20k. Couldn't see a future in someone wanting to buy a petrol..love my EV.
