Repair Help First time posting here, got notice from dealer about "engine mounts collapsing"

Post image

I usually keep up with the recommended repairs but this one JFC

Recommending that my original engine mounts from the vehicle are collapsing and need replacing

$3,300

For now I'll pass.

Can I get this done much cheaper elsewhere

I can maybe get them down to $2,900

Engine mounts do compress over time so they may be out of spec according to BMW and the dealer but still be perfectly functional. I'd get them checked by an indy shop and if they agree they can probably do them for much less.

I was wondering that too, I think they’re like extra cushy for vibration but still functional as a mount even after collapsing.

They can measure them. If they're under a certain thickness they are deemed out of spec or "crushed" but unless they are leaking fluid or completely deteriorated they will still function. That said functional isn't always optimal. It isn't something critical to replace right now but I'd add it to your future maintenance list. $3300 is nuts for mounts tho.

They’re all nuts. BMW sterling quoted me $1500 for a parking brake cable clamp (I was only there for warranty work, they were just trying to pump up the ticket for some profit). I just looked am him like dude…come on. It’s a $21 part and EVEN IF you drop the exhaust, 3 hours of labor TOPS. I usually just screw the new one into the old one for .5 hr and a coors light

Did they send you a video or proof? Do you feel any vibration? What kind of car do you have?

Yes I have a video proof

A friend had to have them replaced on his car. It only vibrated when in reverse. The entire motor would turn sideways when in reverse. I think it is a 2018 330i.

Shocked it took 10 years. They usually fail faster.

Do them yourself. Easy.

haha i just got the original motor and xfer mounts and giubo done on my 193k mile 2003 x5. they werent even noticeably bad i just did it while in there for other stuff. id say wait a while the stealership always recommends stuff you dont need. ps an independent shop would prob do it for 1/2 that amt or less. def less than $2k i would think, figure 6 hrs max labor and how much can oem equivalent mounts like corteco cost maybe max a couple hundred bucks each. youd want to do the transmission or transfer case mount at the same time though since its the 3rd leg holding the engine / trandmission unit in place.

2015 f80. Changed mine out recently at 80k. Around $350 for the mounts and $550 for labor.

My guy said it was a pain in the ass to change though
