Any word on Kyle Sfarcioc?

During our last scoring drive he went down with a really bad looking limp and barely could walk off the field.

Any word on if he is ok?

What It Took To Beat Notre Dame

Here's a little check on my pre-game statement. Before the game I said that to beat Notre Dame we would need five of these seven. The ones that hit are in bold.

  • Very Close: Bear to complete more than 65% of his passes -- He was 22 of 35 for a 62.8% completion percentage. One more completed pass and he would have hit this one.
  • Hit: The O-line to hold up against the ND pass rush, less than 2 sacks -- BYU amazingly allowed zero sacks and only three hurries. With ND's best pass rusher ejected for targeting, the O-line was able to give Bear mostly clean pockets.
  • Close: Some combo of Rex, Moa, Tonga, and Eka to have at least 80 yard rushing or receiving and zero fumbles -- Rex and Tonga combined for 72 yard rushing. Rex was, however, much better running between the tackles than I would have thought.
  • Missed: At least one deep shot to connect early in the game -- BYU had zero completions with more than 12 air yards. To ARod's credit he built a game plan on quick, short throws that negated ND's outstanding DBs. We were able to sustain TD drives of 8, 10, 10, and 12 plays.
  • Missed: Our pass rush to get at least 5 hurries and 3 sacks -- While we didn't sack Carr, he was hurried 6 times. He was very good at evading the pass rush, but I give it credit for his accuracy problems throughout the game.
  • Missed: Be at least +2 in turnovers -- Even if you don't count the disastrous fake punt, we were -1 in turnovers.
  • Missed: At least 2 highlight-reel, runaway freight train Bear runs in clutch moments -- While Bear had some tough runs for key yards, none of them were longer than 6 yards. ND clearly had a plan to deal with Bear's QB draws.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this win was that BYU won without a dominant offensive performance. The offense did enough, the defense held ND to field goals instead of touchdowns, and special teams was a huge liability -- AND WE STILL WON!

LJ Martin injury forced A-Rod to open up the playbook

I think we get stuck running LJ Martin, and we don’t open up the playbook and employ all these other schemes because we feel like we don’t have to, and that becomes our downfall. But with LJ out, A-Rod was forced to open up the playbook, and we won the game as a result. I don’t think we would have won it had LJ Martin been healthy.

Are y’all going to cut A-Rod some slack now?

You heard from the announcers that Notre Dame’s defense looked confused in the first half last night. They were obviously looking at formations they’d never seen before and this led to scoring opportunities by BYU.

We also know BYU’s offense has looked inept when it shouldn’t (like vs. TCU).

Here’s my theory: BYU tries to win on scheme bc our average talent level is not elite. A-Rod is always keeping his trickiest formations (not sure what else to call them) hidden until he absolutely needs them. If they get scouted, they lose their value.

This is what happened during the conference championship game last year. BYU came out with a bunch of looks that confused the defense in the first drive and scored. But TT was an elite defense so once they adjusted to what they saw, they shut us down.

Conclusion: A-Rod uses scheme to get elite performance out of non-elite players (on average).

That makes him a great OC.

P.S. Let’s remember that A-Rod is a professional with a team of analysts doing actual science and we’re just a bunch of washed-up amateurs. 🤣

From an Irish Fan

Hell of a game, from a fan standpoint loved it my heart could barely take it, one of the best games I have seen in a looooooong time.

This game was a tale of 2 halves, first half y’all’s OC was running circles around Chris Ash. ND offense in all honesty beat themselves with overthrows that were touchdowns and the fumble at the 1.

Second half, Irish defense stiffened but I think that was because of the conservative play calling on y’all’s part in the 3rd. When the game was on the line the offense came through for yall. Then y’all’s defense did what it had to do to finish the W off.

Hell of a game and good luck moving forward.

I was not a fan that slept on yall. I knew how talented this BYU team was and that environment was fantastic. Tip my cap to yall. See ya in South Bend next if we don’t meet in the Playoffs. Would love to see this game on the schedule moving forward.

ND got a full four seconds. Count yourself

https://youtu.be/8-wbOqZmtA4?si=90vkUpi6v03NDO_1&t=452

The video is recorded at 25 fps (Right click, "stats for nerds", it shows "1280x75@25")

You can advance frame by frame with the "." key on youtube.

From when the center snaps the ball to when it impacts, is about 104 frames, or more than 4x25. That's four seconds.

ND’s wide receiver grabbed the BYU defenders hand and shoulder. There was PI — on Notre Dame.

Single Ticket to UCF

My wife has been called to work next weekend, but I’m still going to the game in Orlando. Selling my extra ticket for what I paid ($110 OBO)—open to reasonable offers to make sure it goes to a BYU fan.
It’s in the official visitor section. No markup for the privilege of sitting next to me.

DM if interested.

About the "there was 1 second left" complaints

I know the conference announced that there should have been 1 more play, but I don't agree. The clock was not started on time for the last play. If it had been, time would have run out before the play ended. That play took over 4 seconds to run (4.03 by the timer used in the linked tweet), and there was 4 seconds left before the play started.

Ban all the BYU fans who had no faith in a win

Seriously, so many of us are incapable of having any confidence or pride in the team. I’m not sure if this is a Mormon humility thing or what, but we have more self-hate and loser mentalities in our fanbase than any other that I’ve seen.

How many comments have you seen over the last week by BYU flairs in this sub or the B12 sub giving us no chance and just hoping for a “close game.” Screw moral victories. If we’re undefeated, I’m assuming we can beat anyone until the team shows otherwise. What’s the point of being a fan if we aren’t hyped for the boys?

GG COUGS, WHAT A GAME!

The best part about that win was that the majority of Notre Dame fans didn't think there was a chance they could loose to "cupcake BYU"

Thats all I have to say. Edit: Also, this is not a bag on Notre Dame fans, I am just happy since all of the media was saying BYU had no chance. Most Notre Dame fans I talked to were nice.
