Selling a car

So I have sold many cars in Bahrain over the past 10 years and one thing always happens. I advertise the car on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp groups and website. All details, description and price is clearly shown and mentioned.

But then I will revive a message asking not for the final price but just 'the price', which is clearly mentioned, and when I give it to them they will then ask for the final price.

On top of this I will then have people message saying things like "hello, can I come to see the vehicle", "is this still available?" Etc etc, I will then reply with "hello, I'm free on this day", "hello, yes it is still available" and then no response.

My main question is, What's up with these guys lol are they just bored and having nothing to do, or is this the adult version of children ringing door bells and then running away lol

So when someone is looking for a car most of them look for several options. So they message not one but many. Unless he has a specific brand and model.

I am assuming the car you are selling isn't like 2-3 years old.

I can completely understand that, like you said unless it's a specific model they are looking for they will shop around, but when I do that I will only message people if they don't post the full details, like how some people will post without the price so you have to message them. The car is 5 years old, but in the past I've sold cars that are 3 years and under with the same feedback

Then it's more easier to understand. It's then typical human nature Maybe some are resellers.

If the car is posted without price, I never bother to enquire. There are so many cars available, I have no interest in calling every one with an interrsting model to ask how much is it.

What's next, a supermarket without pricing, where you have to ask staff or cashier for price of each item, and the price will be adjusted for each customer based on what the supermarket think the customer is willing to pay.

I do the same, so many cars posted up with no price. And why? If I don't see I price then I won't enquire. I've always posted the price for every car I've sold as personally I don't want loads of people messaging me asking for the price. But I've still had people message and ask for the price even when it's in the first line if the description lol

I wouldn’t rely on Facebook or WhatsApp groups but Instagram if you want to sell the car quickly. I’d contact one of those car-selling pages instead. Some might charge a fee just to post your car, while others might charge around 100 BD to personally advertise it in a video.
You could negotiate how the 100 BD is paid. For example, you could pay upfront, or they could take their fee from the selling price. Say you want to sell your car for 1,500 BD. They could advertise it for 1,700–1,800 BD, leaving room for buyers to negotiate 100–200 BD off while still aiming to get you your 1,500 BD and keeping their commission.
You’d leave the car in their possession while they try to sell it, but make sure you have a proper written agreement covering the agreed amount you’ll receive, their commission, responsibility for the car, and what happens if it doesn’t sell. That way, both sides are protected.

I think this is ingrained in the Bahraini psyche, maybe even the Khaleeji one. It’s the death loop of:

آخر جم
جم آخر

Basically, it’s philosophically on a par with the chicken-or-egg question.

And if you tell your people some heroic story about haggling, then obviously you’re worthless. But people not being punctual and respecting time is another can of worms.

I mean people try to haggle, many inflate the prices because they expect someone to haggle, i sold my recently and inflated it by a bit above 100 bd

Every time I sell a car I always have it marked up as I'm expecting to bring it down. But obviously people then need to respond to my reply haha
