Question for you. This mechanism where it slides and clips in is similar to something I have in mind for a v5 of a model I’m working on but I’ve never done. Do you have any tips or guides for making something like that?

I've never really understood why people need these things.

Fold the cable end to end a few times and tie a knot in it. Job done.

Doing that works, but doing so regularly will shorten the lifespan of the cable. If it's just a cheap cable you don't care anything about go for it.

Putting a knot in a cable doesn't reduce its life.

That's saying not to stress the ends. Which I'm not doing.

Like I said Google it, plenty of things that say making any type of knots breaks down the metal inside. You might not have a problem, you might.

I've been doing it for years with decent cables they all still work and don't end up in a horrendous mess if left in drawers.

If the same technique doesn't work for you that's not a me problem.

If you repeatedly overstress a cable (tight bends) you absolutely will eventually split the inside. Might be months, might be decades. Eventually it will become a fire hazard.

Thats why properly storing cables usually means a wider coil or a figure 8. No tight bends.

or the use the velcro ties, which are like 5¢ each if you really splurge
