Misc 261013 Jimin Birthday Project: A little love for our younger selves!

October brings another birthday and another birthday project! As part of our birthday celebrations for our seven favorite humans, we have a little something special planned for our lovely Jiminie.

Jimin has always shown so much love and affection for children, and there's something fitting about celebrating his birthday by taking a moment to remember the children we once were, too. The people we used to be, the things that made us happy, the memories that stayed with us, and all the things we wish we could tell our younger selves today.

Jimin's Birthday Project: A message to/from our younger selves

For this project, we'd love for you to share a little piece of your childhood with us! You can choose either of the following:

  • Write a letter to your younger self. What would you tell the little person you used to be? What do you wish you'd known back then? What would you want them to know about the person they've grown into?
  • Share a favorite childhood memory. It could be a moment that made you feel loved, something that brought you immense joy, a silly little adventure, a person who made a difference, or an ordinary day that has stayed with you all these years.

There's no right or wrong way to participate. You don't have to share anything deeply personal; even the smallest message can mean a lot, like "you nice! keep going!"

Giveaway:

Anyone who participates here is eligible to enter a raffle for a package of BTS fan made merch! The winner will be chosen at random and notified via DM. Must be willing to share name and address with mod team. Personal info will be deleted after prize is sent.

To enter the giveaway, please fill out this form

Let's celebrate Jimin by sharing some of the love, tenderness, and kindness that he so often reminds us to hold on to. 💜

Discussion A fandom lore / term from your baby ARMY days that has fallen off?

Hey, everyone. This just came to me today and seemed like a fun discussion to have. Seeing as BTS is now a 13 year old group and we have ARMYs who joined at very different times, I thought it would be fun to talk about things we learnt or came across during our own baby ARMY days that hardly ever get mentioned today. I find it so interesting that certain lore persists (hi Team Kim Seokjin and lachibolala), but some just gets left behind.

Sharing some of my own first (for context, I joined the fandom around Nov 2017):

  • Hixtape - Stands for (Hobi + mixtape ). At the time, everyone was looking forward to it, waiting for an announcement to drop on us at any time. And we all referred to it as hixtape since we didn't know the title yet, obviously. Of course now we all call it "Hope World".

  • In the mood for love - HYYH (hwa yang yeon hwa), the name of BTS' famous youth trilogy, is a Chinese idiom and there is a famous movie with the same name. But the movie's english title was "in the mood for love", and for some reason, these got intertwined and mixed up by both media and fans. So a lot of fan wiki at the time had HYYH's english title as either "in the mood for love" OR "the most beautiful moment in life". I remember being really confused as a baby ARMY till I saw Namjoon clarifying it in their After School Club (youtube) interview, and confirming that their album was officially called "The most beautiful moment in life", and not the other name. I don't think anyone these days gets confused about this anymore 😅

  • Mic Drop MAMA 2017 - Not a term as such but I remember when this performance first happened, it was earth-shattering. All of us were talking about how legendary it was, we were obsessed with the dance breaks and it was the best performance BTS had ever done. Theeee standard for an award show performance. But as the years have passed, It's gotten overshadowed by MMA 2018, MMA 2019, etc and hardly ever gets mentioned for a recommendation. It makes me a bit sad because I love it so much, and BTS themselves still seem pretty attached to it and bring it up from time to time.

These are some examples of mine. I'm so interested to see what everyone else has to share, especially older (fandom-wise) ARMYs. I hope more recent ARMYs don't feel alienated by this either and that It's a fun exercise for everyone to learn something new from. So please share with us....what are some fandom terms or lore that you remember that rarely gets a mention nowadays?

Discussion Fellow ARMY who made it through enlistment, when did you know we'd make it?

I was just listening to my large playlist and I'll Be There by Jin came on.

I was suddenly hit with a wave of nostalgia and emotions remembering that time.

Honestly, I think this was when I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. To really understand "it will end, they will soon be seven again".

What about you? Fellow ARMY who made it all the way through this era?

Discussion Which BTS albums are culturally more important, than they are musically cohesive?

This thought came to me when I was doing my album look-back during the month-long break between the NA and the LATAM leg of the tour. Is there an album that was really important for BTS or the fandom, even if the songs didn't fit particularly well together?

When I think about culturally important, I imagine things that are important to their career, or how they pivoted into a specific era, theme, or genre. And when I think of cohesive, it has more to do with the album belonging to a consistent sound, mood, or concept.

Feel free to define your own meanings and how you view their discography through this lens. And has an album found itself firmly in the middle of this spectrum? The perfect or ultimate BTS album.

Misc r/bangtan's 2026 Census

Hi, reddit! It's time once again for our yearly r/bangtan census!

As we do every year, we are asking for a bit of your time to fill out the census. We use this info as a way to understand each other and our community better, as well as to help recognize and understand possible cultural differences.

We are no longer including the discography in the census as overall responses have trended sharply downward in recent years. The discography portion takes a lot of time and effort, and it is very disheartening when we only receive 650 responses (2025 ARMY Time Census).

The census takes approximately 3 minutes to complete and includes:

  • Personal: you will be asked a few questions about yourself to get an idea of the subreddit demographic
  • /r/bangtan: subreddit activity and behavior
  • Shared Interests: general music and Korean interest

The census will run from 15 OCT - 31 DEC 2026 KST. Once the census closes, we'll take a few days or so to compile and then post the results for all you data luvers out there.

👉r/bangtan 2026 Census👈

We are but human, so if you stumble upon anything that is missing or if you have any questions or encounter issues when filling out the form, please let us know in the comments below or via modmail so we can look into it!

We’d also like to remind you that this census is only for reddit users.

Please include any other feedback in the comments!

⚠️ All data collected in this form is anonymous and has no way to be traced back to its users. Results will be available at the end of this survey for analysis purposes.

Books With Luv 261017 r/bangtan Books with Luv: Something not so wicked this way comes 👻🎃!

Hello Bibliophiles of r/bangtan! As BTS are winding their way around South America we are winding our way through the month of October! We hope you all are having an amazing spooky season! We hope you didn’t forget about our October book club pick!!! Don’t worry, she’s a shorty so you have plenty of time!

If you’d like to join us next week or be tagged when the post drops, let us know in the comments!

📖 📣Discussion on ‘This Is How You Lose the Time War’ starts on October 24

My pen and paper could never do quite enough

Below is a discussion guide. Some book-specific questions and some sharing suggestions!

Book Specific Questions

  • What did you think of the book? Is it something you would recommend to someone else?
  • You are thrown right into the action of the story with no heavy exposition. Did you find it easy to connect to the story and characters with this immersive style or did it make it hard to follow?
  • Our main characters, Red and Blue, exchange letters through a number of ways. What do you think was the most creative? Did you have a favorite?
  • Did you have a preference towards one side or the other (Garden/Nature vs. Agency/Tech)? Did that change throughout the book?
  • This book is an epistolary novel, a story told through written documents. Did this affect your reading experience? Did it help or hurt your connection with Red and Blue? Do you think it made them feel more connected or more distant? Have you read other epistolary novels before?
  • This book is authored by two people. Max Gladstone wrote from Red’s perspective and Amal El-Mohtar wrote from Blue’s perspective. They did not outline the content of the letters in advance. Did you notice the two different voices while reading or did the story appear seamless? Do you think this writing style helped or hurt the story?
  • Do you think this book fit the song/theme of the month, Never Let Go/Love wins? As we know, love can come in all forms, did this feel like a love story to you?

B-Side Questions/Discussion Suggestions

  • Fan Chant: Hype/overall reviews
  • Ments: favorite quotes
  • ARMY Time: playlist/recommendations of songs you associate with the book/chapters/characters
  • Do The Wave: sentiments, feels, realizations based on the book
  • Encore/Post Club-read Depression Prevention: something the book club can do afterwards (on one’s own leisure time) to help recover from the book hangover.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?

You fill my world with wonder

See below for options on how to get the book
