❓ Questions A question about polygamy:
If a non-Christian converts to Christianity and is married to more than one wife, is it permissible for him to divorce them and be with only one wife after his conversion?

Not a pastor or an expert but I don't think they would need too. The bible instructs us to remain as we are, when we are called. (1 Corinthians 7). Therefore I don't think it would be morally right to divorce wives, especially if they rely on the husband financially.
I would speak to a pastor though about it.

His first wife would be his wife in Christianity. Christianity doesn’t recognize subsequent marriages unless the spouse has passed away. Check Matthew 19, Matthew 5:31-32, and John 4:16-18

King David had multiple wives and hundreds of concubines. Why would they need to divorce their existing wives?

Standard procedure that I have heard is he stops having sex with the others. Some places demand divorce, but he still provides for the others. Even if the laws if his country prohibit divorce, he still ceases to have sex with anyone but his first wife. After all, there are probably children from the others as well as from the first wife. They can live in the same house as he has to support them. but no sexual interaction.

He doesn't have to if he has the money to keep up he should just be ready to answer questions and he should also pray about it

Why would you get a divorce? The Bible doesn't say polygamy is wrong.

Is there a church that permits polygamy? It is wrong.

Please prove from scripture that it's wrong.

Jesus says, “From the beginning I created them male and female; so they did not become two, but one flesh.”
There are no verses that forbid poisoning wells, so should we poison wells?

Okay, but then you failed to find the scripture that says that it's a sin. Explain to me how King David can be a man after God's own heart and have three or four wives before God even says that and have more wives after. The Bible simply does not say polygamy is wrong. I'm not suggesting that Christians should engage in polygamy and I recognize that Romans 13 has us obey the law of the land. But the Bible does not say polygamy is wrong. Trust me, there's been no one in the past 10 years on Reddit who has ever been able to convince me otherwise.
You're welcome to try but hopefully you have some scripture.

He committed adultery and murder. The Bible says a bishop must be the husband of one wife. The Bible is clear: a man of God has no more than one wife.

Is everyone in church a bishop?
Have you seriously lost your mind that you think everyone in church is a bishop?
Someone who happens to be married to more than one wife is ineligible for church leadership but that wasn't what we were talking about. You have not demonstrated that polygamy is a sin. So you're in danger of being classified as a false teacher because you have no scripture to back yourself up.
Hint: not everyone in church is an elder or a deacon. When you do a better job with your exegesis on first Timothy 3 and Titus 1, you'll probably do a little bit better here on Reddit.

If you have read Galatians properly it explains something the people of old testament were made to work with God but hardly walked with him as they were under the curse of the law due to what happened in the garden the old testament is the new testament practicalized so they could not avoid the curse but we by faith are inexcusable read the Bible well sir or ma and please ask God for more understanding it isn't easy to interpret the word

Christ chose the will of God and that' is what we are to do

Okay. Well then it should be easy for you to find the scripture verse that says thou shalt not polygamist. But you can't find it.

But it wasn't written to smoke and it was even written that the king can take hold as he likes yet when David took Bathsheba and killed Uriah God was angry don't read the Bible to know facts alone read it to know God your heart is not right

King David was not going to live right because their beginning lineage Adam who was meant to be his example chose his will over God's will so God didn't interfere in any decision made but we our example is Christ and if you read well Christ used wisdom to live and who did it come from. God may God give you understanding

Yeah That's completely inaccurate. King David was the one upon whom the Holy Spirit rushed the most and was the most present and he was given as a type of the worshiper New testament believer yet to come. If you're claiming falsely that this is somehow wrong, even though God said he was a man after his own heart while he was a polygamist, the problem is you're trying to shoehorn the Bible into saying what you want it to say rather than looking at it and seeing what it says.
Basically you've got nothing so maybe you should stop being a false teacher. King David is arguably the most morally upright and Holy spirit-filled person in the Old testament just about, and you're here saying that all the things the New testament says about him. So highly is just God deciding to do this rather than a result of his behavior? God even holds off on destroying Judah and Israel on behalf of King David's legacy.
You're full of it

Yes I understand but did you read Galatians properly he worked well but under the old covenant their actions were hardly considered as anything but under the new covenant God is a witness that whatever he hasn't approved should not be. If you still think like this then you never understood what Jesus came to do He came to open up that God can work in us at this rate you don't recognize a false teacher and you might just be a false teacher

The Bible isn't a book of rules for every possible scenario, so we have to focus on what's virtuous. We also have to consider what marriage is. But in any case, a man committing to the lifelong care of multiple women, and then one day unilaterally declaring he is no longer upholding his obligation to their care, is not kind or loving.
