Stats Yamal has completed more dribbles than anyone in Europe's top five leagues, one ahead of Mbappé

Post image

Put together some interesting data on the most completed dribbles across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 this season, and thought id share here.

Yamal is top with 30, from 50 tried. Mbappé is right behind on 29 from 48, and Madrid have three of the top five with Bellingham and Diomande too.

Yamal and Mbappé both complete 60% of what they 'try'. Bellingham is the tidiest of the top five at 70%.

He's also level for the most assists in La Liga with 5.

This will be an interesting stat between Yamal & Mbappe this season, especially given Real's landscape of attackers too. I'd love to hear your thoughts: who takes this one by the end of the season?

It’s because of this season a lot of the teams sit deep against them making him “dribble” more

The last two seasons he did not dribble that much

While opposite of popular believe that Mourinho wants to park the bus , Mourinho actually wants his team to control more the game and conditioned the opponent to sit deeper and it did not work in the CL ironically against two Italian teams but in La Liga he can do that due to the teams not being physically great like PL or be as technical as us.

He's a high volume dribbler, he's been like that since his debut.

mbappe this season has been dribbling alot and making no progress because he drift from the striker position deep to dribble, meaning when he dribbles there's no striker to feed the ball into. that's why you dont feel like he dribbles alot because he doesnt achieve alot with it.

with vini basically doing nothing most of the time he must have felt his urges to be a winger take over again

Mbappé has always been dribbling a lot except for his last 2 seasons at PSG where he strictly started to play at the 9, probably was just adapting to play at Madrid.

Pretty nuts... Also crazy how Real have so many in that top 6 - feel like Jose is pushing 'if you try it, you better get past...' 🤣

He's a good ball carrier.

Dude doesn't need any tricks, people just shove and kick at him while he ignores them

Jude can't fucking lose the ball, too. I've watched him and it seems impossible to get the ball from him.

i’m more surprised seeing mbappe and bellingham that high tbh. and olise that low.

Lamine doing this at his age is completely unreal, but seeing half of Real Madrid's attack up here is genuinely terrifying. That being said, Jude's 70% success rate feels illegal—you literally can't take the ball off the guy. Glad our boy is still clear at the top though

Diomande is going to be a big headache for barca in the future mann, look at successful dribble percentage. Woof!

He has the productivity of a snail. I think it's fine.

He has a decent productivity, he just needs some good match time, last season he did, this season although he had a slow start he still has a 2g/a in under 370 mins, I know I'll get downvoted but I'll stand by it.

That's what we thought about Vini, the brother went on to win 2 UCLs with them. Diomande is 19.

This is what is frustrating every attack shouldn't come through lamine, gordon and adeyemi should produce some dribbles from left and not run only

Huh? This season it feels like we don’t rely on a singular player at all. This is probably the least dependent the team has been on Lamine since he came up.

I think Anthony Gordon is really solid on dribbling espescially on the counter attack his dribbling of course is nowhere near as good as yamal but it’s able to give pressure to the oppostion, i would say Anthony Gordon has the second best dribbling of all Barca attackers

Bro you don't only have to make runs but dribble past players too, gordon was bsckpassing I know not everyone can be lamine but atleast adeyemi takes risk gordon I want him to take some more risk , a Pacey dribbler on left would literally take off half lamine's creativity workload and even if gordon can't be more lenient towards dribbling then both gordon and adeyemi have to massively improve their shooting they have to be very clinical against psg look at City match

What’s your problem really? You want us to create chances or you just want our players to dribble? For most of the season our most dangerous attacking side has been the left wing. Yamal dominates these stats because well he’s Yamal, not because he’s being forced to. Atleast so far this season.

Gordon has always been someone who opts to make the smarter play rather than the low percentage play, even in his shooting decision making you can see that. He wants the perfect environment to take on players or shoot. He only goes for it when to him it’s the right option, with Yamal every 1/3 of the possession he will look to make the outplay. That’s who he is and I think that’s effective for the system, you let the best do their thing and the rest play around them.
