Dad hasn't changed a bit and son is the living image of his Dad in the more recent picture. Nice one.

As a Dad I can see it in his eyes, that's the happiest he's ever been.

11
u/Robo_Patton May 09 '26
So big it has to be logged on the flight plan.
His mustache is why there was no room for your luggage, in particular.

u/BalkeElvinstien May 09 '26
Im surprised they didnt make him check it in, a stache that grand shouldn't be allowed as carryon

Dad donated part of his mustache to his son. You love to see the tradition passed down. LOL.

Just like in cars: all the knobs and gauges are getting replaced by screens.

737-Jurassic to 737-NG, too.

We were flying those old bitches waaaay too long. One of the proudest legs in my logbook was when I operated the final revenue leg of a Classic from GSP-ATL and then it went to live its best life as recycled pop cans.

He looks like the kid still
1
u/rohrzucker_ May 09 '26
Because he is.
1
u/Evening_Common2824 May 10 '26
Some people don't look so similar as they grow up, or do you think everyone is still recognisable 30-40 years later?
1
u/rohrzucker_ May 10 '26
Yes actually, like 95%
1
u/Evening_Common2824 May 10 '26
"Everyone" means 100%, so saying "yes" would be a contradiction if you make it 95%. Like I said...
1
u/rohrzucker_ May 10 '26
I literally quantified the 'yes' with '95%' in the same sentence. If only 5% of people change that much, then it's not amazing that he looks the same, it's expected.

u/Evening_Common2824 May 10 '26
Google says... While exact percentages vary based on definitions of "looking the same," studies suggest that a small minority of people maintain a very similar appearance, while most show significant facial changes due to factors like weight loss, sagging skin, and bone structure changes. Generally, only a small percentage (often around 10-20%) are considered to look significantly younger than their peers, indicating a different aging pattern.

This story has been posted so many times, and for so long, that the kid has probably retired by now.

u/theaviationhistorian May 09 '26
I love these pictures showing the parent passing the torch onto their kids. Also, damn pops! The man almost flew the entire Southwest fleet if he was piloting the 737-200 back then! On a related tangent, I remember seeing the last SWA 737-200 roaring away from the airport in 1999. They practically did a combat takeoff pulling the gear as soon as they were airborne and turning left onto their vector. It was a great way to say goodbye to a nostalgic jet.

If I found out that a father and son were piloting the plane, they would be amazed at how quickly I could get my ass out of that plane.
1
u/RightLaneHog May 09 '26
It's cool that even the aircraft has "aged". They're both in a 737 but the top is the -200 and the bottom is the -800.

Unfortunately my Dad had retired from the Army when I was in but I got to fly with some of his best friends at the end of their careers.

What amazes me is how many of these 1 month old accounts repost the same old crap from years ago, I’m reaching my quota of BLOCK functionality.

Charlie Kirk is in deepest parts of hell screaming at how no one should ever trust them because they are black pilots. And yet they are still alive after many flight hours. Rest in piss Charlie.

god I hate nepo babys.
3
u/Icy_Weakness_1815 May 09 '26
Whats nepo?
4
u/NitchHimself May 09 '26
It's a short term for nepotism, but I don't really see how that applies here since becoming a Pilot requires a TON of training, hard work, constant education, certifications, physical requirements, etc. and isn't something that can just be handed out to someone else haha. To me it just looks like a dude who admired and looked up to his dad and followed in his footsteps.
2
u/Icy_Weakness_1815 May 09 '26
Thanks for the explanation! I really dont know how the previous commentator can claim this by a simple photo but whatever…
2
u/ZodHD May 09 '26
There's nothing inherently wrong with nepotism. It's only a problem if the person is incompetent. People shouldn't automatically be hated just because they have an opportunity someone else doesn't. Also I'm sure becoming a pilot isn't as simple as nepotism.
1
u/kakka_rot May 09 '26
something reddit doesn't think about is how many nepo babies in the entertainment industry never make it. Sure there is some questionable ones, but a lot of successful "nepo babies" got big because they don't suck. A ton of famous people's kids tried to get into the industry but couldn't.
Like sure, there is also thousands of people of incredible talent who will never make it because it's just so competitive, and kids of celebrities have a very obvious foot in the door from birth, but Miley Cyrus didn't get famous just because her dad wrote "Achey Breaky Heart", she got where she is from being insanely talented.
