Dude has like 62 goals in 54 matches for Norway. I dont think anyone has ever been better in that aspect. His teams isnt even all that good which makes it even more amazing.
562
u/FSpursy Jul 06 '26
they're literally playing for the vibes and not to win.
Halaand literally play a match, then go walk in the city, eat katz deli, shoot his youtube vlogs, buying cowboy hats, meeting fans. They're just having fun lol.
260
u/Huffnpuff9 Jul 06 '26
They are playing to win... the vibes just come with it
84
u/Fidodo Jul 06 '26
Are they playing to win because they want to win, or because it adds to the vibes?
32
u/Huffnpuff9 Jul 06 '26
oof the game comes first, then the vibes. You can't have the vibes without the game

He’s close to Gerd Müller who scored 68 in 62 for Germany, and 14 goals in 13 World Cup games. as a kid I remember thinking nobody is getting even close to this. Until Haaland!

I was thinking absolute swagger. He knows he has it when the ball left his foot.

Not trying to downsize this beast, but Ronaldo also did that in his prime and even after it. Will always remember this pic of him. This athletes are just crazy
25
u/kuena Jul 06 '26
I remember watching a video where someone had people try to match the height of this exact header with expected results. He was also 36 at the time and not in his absolute prime anymore.
7
u/bigmon12 Jul 06 '26
yes, you are right. i was trying to find the gif of him jumping over Evra in 2013(recorded at 2,93m ), but this one was also fire. The amount of power this guys need to generate is crazy.

This is cool (aside from the annoying music) and I want to know more:
1) Did he kick it at that dude's face on purpose with the intention of ricocheting into the goal, or was it just lucky?
2) Is it legal to kick the ball at an opponent's face on purpose?
3) Did it count as an own goal?
7
u/AcidBuuurn Jul 06 '26
Based on how he looks like the “Problem?” troll it was intentional.
The opponent has the responsibility of getting their face out of the way. If the opponent were on the ground next to the ball maybe a foul but not these.
No idea.
18
u/Renoir-1 Jul 06 '26
No way was that intentional. He's not that good.
Not a foul but play is stopped to let player get treatment to genuine head injuries.
Yes it was awarded as an own goal as Haaland shot was going wide of the goal without the face deflection.

Even though Haaland is an awesome player, Brazil was playing a terrible match, and deserved to loose, Brasil have many great talents, and an overall better team, but stayed in a passive position, the team lacks direction and heart, this was also visible in other matches, even if Brasil had won, it had no chance against stronger opponents until they get their shit together.

Brazil has been a pretty average team for like 20 years now. Past worldcup wins mean nothing.
15
u/realshockin Jul 06 '26
2010+, I agree
But from 94-2010 the Brazil team was incredible, we could have won 98 and 06, but "only" got 94 and 02, it was a better team than France is now and they are on a similar trajectory
9
u/AdriftSpaceman Jul 06 '26
Brazilian here, current France squad has a much better collective game and cohesion. It's a better trained squad.
10
u/realshockin Jul 06 '26
When you have prime Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Rivaldo, no one needs more cohesion lol
5
u/AdriftSpaceman Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
You do. When Ronaldo was a no show in the 98 finals the Brazilian squad watched France completely dominate the game. The same happened in 06, with Zidane waltzing the midfield and dominating the game with the defense poorly attempting an offside line while Roberto Carlos was fixing his socks instead of trying to stop Henry. Another poor choice, using the short RC to defend against the towering Henry.
If they had better cohesion they might have lost both games still, because France was great, but the games would've been very, very different.

I think it's a bit misleading to compliment Haaland by specifying how many times Brazil won the world cup, because that doesn't say much about their current team. Yeah history can have a weight but clearly this Brazil is not nearly close to their peak years and, as a matter of fact, I could also say it's a team that has neither won nor reached the final since more than 20 years.
Still, Haaland showed a great performance of course, but the fact that it was against this Brazil doesn't say much more about it.
42
u/James-the-Bond-one Jul 06 '26
Brazil was already weak 12 years ago when Germany beat it 7x1.
21
8
u/Gatsu1981 Jul 06 '26
Honestly, I believe that Brazil back then was actually worse than today, and they also were left without their best player at the time - Neymar - for injury. The final result in that case was also probably due to a particular coincidence between the bad form of Brazil and an exceptional performance from Germany: there are days when you simply succeed in anything and I think that was one of such cases. Still, the difference was quite blatant and well described Brazil need for a change in direction.
4
u/crimson777 Jul 06 '26
Brazil was without Neymar AND captain Thiago Silva.
5
u/Gatsu1981 Jul 06 '26
Right, another big absence, and possibly even more determining for the proportions of the result, given that he was definitely their best defender.
4
u/crimson777 Jul 06 '26
Yup. Best defender and he REALLY held the defense together too. You could see them fall apart without him. He was a pretty decent leader.
3
u/crimson777 Jul 06 '26
And Germany can’t even make it to the round of 16 since then either. Maybe it’s a curse on both teams.
2
u/Mazzdrpan Jul 07 '26
That team was at least 3 times better than current Bra71l team, lets be real. But Germany was insanely stacked and their teamwork was impeccable.
8
u/dadofwar93 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Brazil went downhill after they won 2002 wc. Most of the good players retired after that and they couldn't produce good enough team after that. Yes there were a couple of good players but it was never enough.

To be honest, Haaland is a goal machine, but he's the tip of the spear.
Dude has just insane goaling abilities. He gets the ball, he scores.
The team behind him, the restraint they showed, playing safe to create the right occasions, and the insane stops by their goalie, that's something Brazil was missing.
You can't pull a Neymar and hope he'll magically fix everything when you don't have a full team on the field.

I just learned about this guy today, went to youtube and watched the first video of his highlights.
This dude is what I think a soccer player should play like, if I never played soccer.
Like, you think, watching the world cup games, "why doesnt that player just kick it straight with a lot of power", "its that easy!". Or "ya, just head butt the ball into the net when your that tall and that close, no duh, your right there".
This dude is amazing. He makes the play, look easy. And thats the mark of a generational player.
Look, i just learned about the guy, but I do play other sports and its the same for the top tier guys. MJ, Lebron, Brady, the best guys when they play, to the causal/untrained eye, it looks easy what these athletes do bc its picturesque.
But when you play the game long enough, years, and you attempt the moves, you realize just how hard it is. How much athleticism, skill, practice, training, workouts and genetics go into it.
This Erling Haaland has accuracy, speed, balance, timing and this is the most impressive, size, all in 1 package.
Again, not too much of a football history "knower" but how players in history have his size and height while still maintaining that level of balance, control and accuracy.
Incredible showing.
