He tied a harness!!! Finally, a person who realizes that no one, not even animals, want to be yanked around by their necks, even if they are being saved.

I was amazed by that too. This guy knows knots. He also never rushed. Seems he has a lot of experience in rescue missions.

I was in the navy and seeing him tie the knots immidately made me think he must’ve been a soldier / police / firefighter, any one of these. Also the traversal via the log, he is someone who’s been in extreme situations, probably

Must have hurt like hell. It hurts even on a smooth log. I can understand why he was clearing stuff from the stem before crawling over it

u/onclegrip 3h ago

He also felled that log to aid the rescue. Legend.

Those were some aptly tied hitches. I took a swiftwater rescue course and that’s what they taught us to use.

Right? So well executed!

Stuff like this makes me think I gotta learn to tie knots. Seems like a useful skill

Anyone know if there’s photos post rescue? Dog seemed so sweet.

That dog probably drowned harness or no harness. How was he supposed not to panick and hold his breath while being pulled under water even shortly? The dog they pulled was motionless. ☹️

What?? You see the dog alive at the end being lifted in. There was no other way and they did it super fast so as not to drown.

Did you watch the video? He's alive at the end. Dogs aren't stupid.

I am sorry but i did not see a live dog at the end. I saw his motionless head briefly as he was brought in and his motionless rear end on the side of the man untying him. No movement. And then they show the valiant man who wanted to save his life. Ok on that but No sharing of the relief of seeing the dog catch his breath after the crossing and no show of him happy to have been saved (that was the whole point of the video for me).

I never said dogs were stupid. I am very stressed by this video, not amazed despite the undeniable efforts of the rescuer. This situation was desperate, the dog was probably exhausted and/or in shock, I wanted to see his relief at making it and I did not.

Love to know that there are still kind people in this world!

when humans save animals, one of the few moments i'm proud of humanity. a truely selfless act, how rare is that?

They risked their lives for this dog. Very brave and heroic. I would follow this guy into battle

20

u/officeja 7h ago

I’ve done something similar to save a dog that nobody had the balls to do, but not at this level!

10

u/OldSea3040 7h ago

Selfless acts all around.

13

I'd risk my life for any dog to be honest

Poor doggy, no dog ever deserves to feel pain or fear, NEVER 😢

17

u/AntiSnoringDevice 7h ago

One of the ladies speaking, rightfully mentioned St Francis of Assisi, who loved all animals. Well done Mr brave Colombian!

That’s what humanity looks like.

I do find this amazing. This is one dog. These actions by these people shows humanity, compassion. We can do great things when we work together.

Even under these circumstances, they keep their humor and jovial behavior. "Hoy le tocaba baño", roughly translated to "Today you were scheduled for a bath anyway" roasting mildly the guy helping the dog 🤣

Haha nice

8” tree trunk, bowline, harness support personnel. They knew what they were doing. For a dog? I would do it for cat. They are heroes.

Combeima??? That’s in my city!!! Never thought I’d see a post so -literally- close to home

That river borns from a snow-capped volcano (Volcán Nevado del Tolima), and when it heavily rains? Ooff we know it will be disastrous

Even though it’s not a very wide river, it can be disastrous, and especially because many houses and restaurants are built near to the bank

10

u/Hot_Transition_5173 7h ago

Much respect.

I don’t seen the dog after it gets thrown in the water??

9

u/Celticlady47 7h ago

The video does show the dog getting pulled out of the water and put on the ground.

u/Astronomer6996 8h ago

Gracias Colombia, pero viendo lo que estoy viendo  no vale la pena poner en grave riesgo la vida de una persona para rescatar a un perro.  Colombia 👏👏👏👏👏

3

u/thygrief 7h ago

Pelotudo

-9

u/Normal-Leopard3367 8h ago

Ok noooo pending massive failure and suicide

-17

u/bobi2393 8h ago

I might have waited on the riverbank for the water to die down to help. I'd have passed on shimmying down the narrowing tree trunk.

Not sure if that guy is super heroic, or if he's just dumb and underestimated his risk. 😂

11

u/Lusiric9983 8h ago

Good to know you can't be relied on to save a life. Some of us aren't bystanders and just watch things happen, we actually have courage and an understanding of the world. You sound like a coward.

-1

u/bobi2393 5h ago

In my view, human life is a lot different than the dog's life, and it wasn't clear whether the floodwater was rising or falling. If it was steady or falling, waiting was safer. If it was rising, the rescue would have been even less safe.

And risking my life could require other humans to risk their lives to rescue me if that branch broke or if I were stranded on the rocks by rising floodwaters.
