It's been over a week since we've adopted our first BD - Jimmy - a 5 year old boy with some neurological issues and a problem with his tail (details in my in my first post here).
We took Jimmy to an exotic vet a few days ago, she checked his tail and overall health. The neurological part - well, it is what it is, it doesn't affect his quality of life that much.
She checked his tail and said it may actually be a tail rot, doesn't think it's a stuck shed. He was prescribed antibiotic (Enrofloxacin), once a day for a week + soaking his tail once a day, we are to get back if nothing changes in 2 weeks... I still hope there won't be a need for the tip of the tail amputation (both for Jimmies and my wallets sake, but hey, if it has to be done, it will be done).
Jimmy has a great appetite and very good sight. The second he sees some live food he runs, and I mean sprints towards it. Unfortunately he's not so keen on eating veggies - he'll eat some shredded carrots and a bit of an apple, but won't touch any greens. We will keep on trying - we will try the "moving salad" (mixing some live feeders with salad) trick and some bee pollen in a day or two. For now we make sure any live feeders are properly gut-loaded before being served.
He is absolutely lush and lovely to handle. He never, ever shows any objection to being picked up, he loves to hang around (and fall asleep) on mine and my partners shoulders.
He is also a very good boy when it comes down to taking his medication - I dilute the antibiotic with water in around 40:60 ratio, a few small gentle taps of the syringe on his lips, he opens them and lets me push the plunger, never any spills, hissing, nothing. Same thing with soaking his tail - he acts like he couldn't care less when we do it.
Such a good boy, we're so happy we got him <3
