Launching BestIn, a website inspired by this sub

Thumbnail

Running this sub has been a good reminder of how much people know about this city. Locals ask each other where to go, and visitors get recommendations they wouldn’t easily find on a typical travel site.

The only downside is that once a thread drops off the front page, those recommendations can be hard to find again.

That’s what inspired me to build BestIn. The idea is to take those conversations and make the recommendations easier to find, with a place for people to share their favourites, vote on answers and discover the best of any city, with no ads or paid rankings. I based the starting data on threads from here, so Dublin’s the most built-out so far.

I’ve just launched it, and I’d love for you to have a look and add a few of your own picks. If you’d like another town or city added, you can request one on the site. It’s very much a work in progress, so honest feedback is welcome.

This sub isn’t going anywhere, and thanks for making it such a useful community in the first place!

Random tips about Dublin & Some questions :)

Hi everyone, I'm an Italian guy. In about 1 month, I'll be in Dublin for 4 months to study English and for an Internship, all on my own. It'll be my first time living abroad in an English-speaking country, and I'm very excited about it, but at the same time a bit anxious, as it normally should be.

I'd like to ask simply if you have any random tips about the city itself, living there, what to see and do etc..., really anything. Then I have the following questions:

1. Are Dublin and Ireland in general a good place to improve English, compared to, for example, the UK or the US? (I have around a B2 level, my aim is to bring it to C1, mostly in the speaking and listening parts.

2. Is it true that Dublin is a very multicultural/cosmopolitan/international city?

3. How difficult is it there to meet and make friends with people, specifically Irish people? And if you have any random advice on how to meet people there?

Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions :)

r/BestInDublin, where do you actually like to eat in Dublin?

Hi, we’re four friends putting together restaurants across Dublin in an app called Vota.

The idea is simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example: Chapter One or Bunsen? The votes create a ranking that we hope gives a better picture of where people actually enjoy eating.

We’re trying to include as many restaurants as possible and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Dublin. Two of us live in Copenhagen and two in Gothenburg. The four of us are building Vota independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated restaurant descriptions.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly. Where do you like to eat in Dublin?

Medical Treatment for Lipoedema in Dublin?

Does anyone know if there is treatment for lipoedema in Dublin?
I was diagnosed back home a while ago, and I've been doing the basics to manage it and stay well.
But, I've been experiencing tired legs every day after my shifts (wokig in hospitality), along with a burning sensation.
I feel like I need to look into treatment options or follow up with a doctor.

Any recommendations?

4 days 5 nights Dublin Itinerary

We are traveling to Dublin at the end of November - two older teens, two adults. Open to a mix of museums, nature, shops, great live music for a first time but very quick trip to Ireland. We love to eat, love history, understand that we will have to put up with the rain and wind. We can't wait to absorb as much as possible and drink a solid pint. Here is our starting itinerary. I have listed options for the days in Dublin but would not necessarily do all of these things on a given day. Any suggestions on what we should change or not miss? Any quite pubs in the city centre that does food?

Catching up with someone on Friday night, and looking for somewhere that I can have a pint and talk. If the place did some sort of food it'd be great.

Any half decent pub I know usually has either loud music, the TV on full volume showing sports, or some lad playing a guitar on Friday nights.

Preferably within the city centre, but not far from a Green Line LUAS stop is fine, also.

Buying furniture on etsy

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for a coffee table and finally found one on Etsy that’s exactly the style I want. However, I’m not sure how reliable the seller is or what the quality would be like.
Has anyone here bought furniture from Etsy before? I’d love to hear about your experience, especially regarding quality, delivery, and whether the furniture matched the photos.
I’ve already checked stores like EZ Living and JYSK, but unfortunately, I haven’t found anything similar.
Would really appreciate any feedback or recommendations for other furniture stores that might sell something similar. Thanks in advance!

Activities/places for kids

Anyone any recommendations for weekend activities with a 4 year old and a 1 year old?
We’ve done the zoo and Tayto Park lots of times, and whenever I search online it mainly comes up with parks/playgrounds.

Just wondering if there are any other places or activities we might be missing that are good for both ages? Indoor or outdoor, little day trips, farms, attractions, anything really. Would love some new ideas for weekends, especially places that are enjoyable for both kids. Thank you!!

Local Londoners/Dubliners

Looking for recommendations from people who actually live there or know the cities beyond the usual tourist stuff. I’m into history, live music, beer, weed, sports, good pubs, walking around and having a chat with people. Happy to wander around on my own, but I’d also love to meet people and get a feel for everyday life in both cities. I’m not looking for a luxury itinerary or a list of the top ten attractions on Google. I’d rather find a great little pub, hear a local band, get lost walking around, or end up chatting to someone interesting. So, if you live there, where would you send a friend visiting for a couple of days? Where do you actually go for a pint, a coffee, a bit of history, or a good night out? And if there are any particularly good spots for a solo traveller to strike up a conversation without it being weird, I’m all ears.
