Prism Lenses Ideal Prism Frames / Adjustment Period Help!

Hi there!

Short story is I am not sure what kind of frames i need for prism glasses with an out prescription or if it matter at all to the way it will work/ impact my vission. I usually wear large round or oval glasses but have heard oval glasses may be bad for this prescription and have noticed bad headaches.

Long story: I have recently gotten my eyes tested and brought up my concerns of BVD which were confirmed by my optometrist. He prescribed me prism glasses (right eye 0.75 out and left eye 0.5 out) and while i can read sooooo much better i also am dealing with awful headaches and nausea. He mentioned I should get different frames but didnt give me much info as to what and i had gotten a pair of wide oval glasses not being able to find much info. I guess i would love some info from people who may know whether or not i should stick with my wide glasses and this headache/anxiety is normal

I have a pretty good amount of BO prism (4.5BO in each eye) and I wear a lot of different frame styles. I also have some vertical prism (1BD left and 1BU right). I like oversized frames. I haven’t noticed any difference between square or round frames. I also have purple ones that are slightly more round than the round tortoiseshell ones. I took them off my face the other day and set them down and they got sucked into the void.

Thank you!

I like the wire framed ones because I can adjust the nose pads so the frames (and therefore the prisms) sit right on my face.

My doctor told me the oversized frames work better because there’s less space for your eyes to look over or around the frame so the prisms “work better”.

The top two are from TIJN and then I had my doctor make lenses for them. The bottom two (and the missing pair) are from Eye Buy Direct and they made the lenses (Which are pretty accurate. My doctor checked them).

Good luck with your prisms!

Do you happen to have Exophoria and left hyperphoria?

Frame fit and lens positioning can affect prism glasses. If headaches and nausea are severe, get them checked by your optomrtrist rather than pushing through.

I'd get the frames and prescription checked before trying to push through the adjustment period. Mild headaches can happen with new prism glasses, but awful headaches and nausea are worth following up with your optometrist about, especially since they mentioned the frames too. Frame fit and lens positioning can matter with prism, so I'd ask them to check both before buying another pair!

The frame shape itself isn't necessarily the problem. Proper lens positioning matters more, so i'd get that checked first.
