Whiteness is the merit. Any black person in a position white people expect white people to be in will ALWAYS be unqualified to them. When they say "DEI hire", they're just calling you the hard 'r'. I'm deadass.
Because we will NEVER be equal to these kinds of people. We will never "earn" it, it doesn't matter how well we perform. It's always going to be a handout.
Edit: a word

Like when they say “young man” to a grown ass man. Man, just say what you really feel. “Boy!”😒

u/Discardofil 1d ago
I remember a while back, another country (Australia, maybe) had an ad where a black man was called "boy." It was perfectly innocent outside of America's crazy racial context, but once people explained it, they pulled the ad because they didn't want to be even slightly associated with that.

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 1d ago
I was watching a British program and they called a black guy boy. Very much not racial in the contxt, but I cringed anyway.
2
u/NoFaithlessness7508 20h ago
I really would like to know how it isn’t racial when used in the commonwealth
76
u/ValorantEdater 2d ago
Exactly. It's why the people who don't think Charlie Kirk was racist will never get it.
If you walk into a plane and see a black pilot and wonder if they are qualified, but you never do that for white pilots - you are in fact, racist.
26
u/ScienceNthingsNstuff 2d ago
This was so obvious with Brown Jackson. You don't say a peep about the president getting 2 of the least qualified judges ever onto SCOTUS but Brown Jackson is somehow a DEI hire? Ignoring political leaning she is one of the most qualified judges to ever take that bench. Only one common denominator

u/Dudewhocares3 2d ago
It’s weird when they do that shit on Twitter.
You can say all the slurs you want on Twitter and not get banned now since Musk took over but they continue using DEI as their slur
6
u/dalledeverre 1d ago
Maybe they don't want to go so far as to totally pierce the veil on their own belief that they aren't really racist. The proud bigots go right for it, but the subconscious ones who always claimed "real" racism is limited to slurs and burning crosses still think that. For now.

u/saryndipitous 2d ago
If whiteness was the merit, they could hire a liberal too. It’s more like she’s a cult member. And pretty. And probably the white part too.
2
u/annieselkie 1d ago
One of the merits. Intersectionality: men > women, white > not, republican > democrat, X > Y etc etc. The more Xs the better. But 2 X and 1 Y is better than 1 x and 2 y. And the x > y have their own hierachy. (X1 > Y1) > (X2 > Y2)

You'd think this admistration would eventually stumble on someone competent.
Just statistically.
76
u/WrittenFever 2d ago
They're purposely avoiding competent people this administration. They had too many competent people the first time out (feels so weird to say, cause the first time was also a clusterfuck, yet somehow less so) that they needed to line this second run with idiots to make sure there was no one giving them pushback or actually making them do things the right way.
20
u/notthatbadingeneral 2d ago
Say thats the case. You'd still think ONE would sneak in.

"Only the best people."
They weren't ready for the win, the first time. He wanted to show well in the election, and whine about being 'robbed' for a few years and maybe start a competitive network to Fox News. Then he won. The Party supplied a bunch of competent people for his cabinet - or what passes for competent with an (R) after it. They wouldn't let his wildest craziness out of the White House. They supported each other when he threatened them.
This time, loyalty to the whims of the emperor is paramount. This time, they prepared for victory before the election. This time, there are only two types of people allowed in the administration - incompetents, and sadists. People who don't understand that there is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity, and people who will sacrifice the rest of their lives to the proposal that some other group will suffer just a bit more than them. Now that the most self-damaging administration in American history has metastasized, no-one competent is willing to sacrifice their career or their credibility on the fire of his folly. They can't find someone capable of reading out loud that is also acceptable to the diapered one. The real right-wing operators are now standing back and making plans, occasionally sending in suggestions from the darkness, hoping to make their move when the current administration flames out.

u/Dudewhocares3 2d ago
Pete Hegseth retweeting a post about women not deserving the right to vote should’ve killed his political career.
But thanks to Trump and his supporters, I feel like they could say “hey let’s bring back marital rape” and they’d lose minimal support
6
u/nWo1997 2d ago
They're probably in the background, just staying quiet. I mean, someone's gotta be handling the boring stuff. Or the loud stuff that's plastered all over the news that the figureheads don't actually work on.
Y'know, interns. And Kif from Futurama. Someone's definitely Kif.
2
u/SirIAmAlwaysHere 2d ago
They've gone out of their way to fire all those quiet competent people. Via "loyalty" tests, DEI purges, and the DOGE shit.
There isn't anyone competent still running things. Witness the complete lack of efficiency and competence in our services anymore.
It's intentional. Break the government and you don't have to hand money to people and it can't prevent the exploitation of folks by the powerful.
2
u/sbwcwero 2d ago
Competence would shine some light in the dark, and the entire government looks a little funny in the light
2
u/Dudewhocares3 2d ago
The competent people are the ones having Trump and his admin of brain dead clowns flood the zone while they dismantle the country behind the scenes

American conservatives are the very dengerates and losers they think others are. They should never be taken seriously
25
u/Qubeye 2d ago
Conservatives hijack language. They use words like merit and woke and lawfare and DEI wrong all the time. Some of them use the word maliciously to confuse their followers, while others use the words wrong because they are stupid.
It's not about DEI or merit, and it never has been. They don't even know what those words mean.

u/Mule_Wagon_777 2d ago

Merit was always a myth.
Yall are gettin outraged and raising your blood pressure over stuff that you knew was a lie the whole time.
The only people who ever bought into the whole "merit" things were naive people who have no idea how life works (which is sadly, quite a few of you on Reddit it seems)
10
u/BUSY_EATING_ASS 2d ago
We're getting to the point where they're going to be like "yeah this is exactly what it looks like and what the fuck are you gonna do about it" and these kind of (although very true) sort of counterarguments will be, well not useless, but, you know.

They do this stuff on purpose. They delight in demonstrating that they'll put the most unqualified white people over the most qualified black people. Her not being able to read is part of why they appointed her.
2
u/Dry_Minute_7036 2d ago
DEI is everywhere. "Good ole boy" networks? DEI. Vance being chosen? DEI. Kamala's VP pick? DEI (to get the white male vote). Every single Trump appointee? DEI.
We have been so poisoned with identity politics it is gross. We DO need a meritocracy...where we hire and promote those who are worthy no matter their "identity". IDK how to get there with how broken we all are...but I'm committed to treating everyone individually and on their merits and hoping everyone else follows.

Merit is so subjective. For me, it's education, experience, performance, ethics, and wisdom.
For some, apparently, it's looking like a cross between a Fox News Femmebot and the print a Kardashian leaves on her pillow when she forgets to wash her face before bed.

I hate when people feed the false DEI narrative.
The supreme court appointment is linked to DEI because it was a level playing field and the best candidate won out. The press secretary debacle is why DEI is necessary.
1
u/DJ3nsign 2d ago
Nah she got hired because she reminds Donnie boy of Ivanka. Take a look at the press secretaries' photos and compare them to younger Ivanka. Fucker is disgusting

OP is comparing pineapples to bricks. SCOTUS is part of the Judicial Branch of the federal government and does not have to adhere to the rules of the Executive Branch.
The Executive Branch of government is the branch eliminating DEI and crying about how people need to be hired on "merit".
Nobody in the Judicial branch answer to Trump and his cronies.
You might as well be complaining about how the Executive Branch "merit over DEI" agenda is not being enforced at Costco. That is your logic here.
