Black Excellence Uncs make the world go round

u/Chi_Town_Law Aug 12 '26
Did he hook him up w a windsor??
644
u/MambaMentality24x2 Aug 12 '26
He did. My man can tie a tie. Even buttened the jacket correctly
175
u/CorbettCorbs Aug 12 '26
Even got the length right on the first try. I can't even do that for myself let for another person.
65
u/BBQQA Aug 12 '26
I've been tying ties for decades, I don't think I've ever nailed it on the first try.
23
u/WeaponsGrdStupid Aug 12 '26
I think I managed it on the first try once, and that was because my wife was, uh, distracting me.
29
u/BBQQA Aug 12 '26
"funny what a racer can do when he's not overthinking things" - Smokey from Cars 3
(my kid is OBSESSED with Cars 3, I watch it at least once a day)

u/MajorNumerous4073 Aug 12 '26
Just shut up and take my like 😂😂 I love that it’s cars 3 out of all the cars movies.

Using the big Windsor knot to shorten the tie was genius! His sideways rocking, "Ooh ooh ooh!" after seeing the watch too, you could see how much the kid relaxed.

I love him building up the young man's confidence too, admiring the watch and his cologne. Amazing work.
45
u/ChiLolla28 Aug 12 '26
Double Windsor, correct button, nice length just above the belt, pulled properly and tight to the collar (see so many people at formal events / even politicians, etc on on TV with the collar loose) AND he gave him the nice little dimple under the knot
27
13
u/Azure_Skies Aug 12 '26
If there’s three buttons it’s “always, sometimes, never” from the top down. If there’s two it’s always only the top. For anyone wondering 😊
21
u/Azguy303 Aug 12 '26
I'm a 40 year old dude and still can't tie a tie. Never wanted to learn.
15
u/blackjacktarr Aug 12 '26
Me neither, but my workplace had other ideas. Now that I don't work there anymore, I'll only have to worry about getting asked to go to prom.

I can do it in my sleep because school uniform; but it's a really fucking stupid piece of clothing, and dangerous besides. I am never going to wear a tie again. Not ever.

looks like a double windsor!
72
u/ThiccTurkeySammich Aug 12 '26
Definitely a double Windsor
16
u/EricSanderson Aug 12 '26
It's super hard to get the length right on a new tie. That was impressive as hell.
36
u/DepthAggravating3293 Aug 12 '26
Yup, much more balanced and neat looking. Right tie for the right tie.
6
32
u/maven10k Aug 12 '26
It is! This was the only way I knew how to tie a tie when I learned. That man is a pro doing that with no mirror and got it right the first time!

White dude here. This is just a teenie tiny reminder of how POC delivery drivers saved this country during covid. If you want me to go on a tear about it I will (and I’m not taking anything away from white delivery drivers) but the fact that every time I needed a vital supply for my house instead of risking spreading the virus I would see a black man or woman in my driveway safely delivering it. I feel like I’m the only one mentioning this.
64
u/KorovasId Aug 12 '26
It probably doesn't get brought up much because if you got blessed with the title of "essential employee" and worked outside during covid, what that really meant was that you were a non-essential human. They called us heroes and we got a temporary raise or maybe a bonus but if you didn't work in a life-saving field you weren't essential, you were easily replaceable.
27
u/BBQQA Aug 12 '26
if you got blessed with the title of "essential employee" and worked outside during covid, what that really meant was that you were a non-essential human.
I've never seen it phrased that way, but it's put perfectly. Just heartbreaking how true that was, and still is.
8
u/DickHopschteckler Aug 12 '26
I would argue that every package delivered was an item that wasn’t purchased in an indoor high-spreading environment.
I also think that while NY firemen and the NYPD get deserved praise for saving lives NY Sanitation may conceivably be preventing cholera/typhoid/and innumerable other illnesses in each and every New Yorker.
8
u/Aphobica Aug 12 '26
Even those of us in the life-saving field felt like we weren't essential, but easily replaceable. I work critical care units and we were given one set of PPE and told to reuse it. Some of us didn't make it. Had a coworker get COVID on the job and just didnt recover, died in his driveway trying to get to the hospital for help.
All of us that were considered "essential" at the time were essential to keep things running, but not essential enough to ensure their safety. Lots of people forget how many people actually risked themselves for their way of life.

Uncle blessed him with a proper double Windsor knot! Very suave!!
12
u/ForcedEntry420 Aug 12 '26
The double Windsor is frequently overlooked but it’s my favorite. I had to use a single Windsor in the Army and had to stop myself from doubling. 😆
7
u/mecca6801 Aug 12 '26
My dad was army, he’s the one that taught me about the double Windsor. I am definitely guilty of doing a double double.

No matter the color of your skin, helping one another is one of the greatest gifts that you can give. Kudos to the gentleman for helping out.

Helping people like that is a perfect display of positive masculinity. Good men help others and help make them the best they can be, while also doing that for themselves, and accepting help from others who have the same kind of good intentions ("rising tides raise all ships") mentality. Love to see it.

The subtext here is the likelihood that this Amazon delivery driver will be penalized for taking the time to help someone.
13
u/SeeMontgomeryBurns Aug 12 '26
Hell yeah I was definitely thinking the same thing. Amazon has ridiculous metrics you have to keep up with. Don't even have time to take a piss let alone tie a double windsor.
I still love the video though. Just wish I didn't have shit like this in the back of my mind while watching.

I love this. And this is really one of the main reasons I hate the bastardization of the word unc. I just got into a back and forth with an old white man hating on the word (it was used correctly in that instance, none of the “uncool” bs them ppl be talking about), even though I told him it was not a bad term and been used by our parent’s parents generation (he tried to say it was stupid “new slang”) Uncs are essential!
5
u/Educational_Quote851 Aug 12 '26
Old white folks hate it because young white folks say it, and more than a few are teasing or bullying. It's their ignorance showing. Coming from a middle aged white folk. 😅
Keep spreading Truth, those who can see appreciate you! ❤️
10
u/carlitospig Aug 12 '26
I love that he’s dressed all sporty so he doesn’t look like he knows what he’s talking about and then BAM, does the damn thing like a boss.
Two fingers width above the pant line, fellas.
10
u/KILLUA777ZOLDYCK Aug 12 '26
This is what life should be like, us helping each other and not hating each other.
27
u/NoFaithlessness7508 Aug 12 '26
I will never not marvel at how we can take a boring and biblical name like Elijah and then spice it up so it becomes Eligha
3
u/ProfessionalRandom21 Aug 12 '26
I can see some unfortunate situation where Eligha is pronounced in 3 syllables

u/WhenTheCitiesBurn Aug 12 '26
Such a simple gesture, but it made the kid's day, & reinforced a positive view of other people. This is no longer just a delivery driver; he's now a friend they respect. We all need more interactions like this.
8
u/puf_puf_paarthurnax Aug 12 '26
Idk why this made me tear up. Dudes helping other dudes is too rare these days.
6
u/HawksmoorSD Aug 12 '26
This gives me warm fuzzies. My dad taught me how to tie a tie when I was mid teens. I've shared that knowledge multiple times. It's a great way to be.
12
u/AlienInOrigin Aug 12 '26
Was he subsequently sacked by Amazon for slacking off? Gentleman.

u/Shapoopi_1892 Aug 12 '26
Love this interaction. Not sure if he was a random Amazon driver who stopped to help or if they knew eachother but its always nice to watch humbling videos like this.
Wish algorithms boosted more of these kinds of feel good videos instead of the constant hate and violence they force onto everyone's eye balls.

My best friend in high school's dad was the JROTC head instructor, and I think she and he realized I was from an underprivileged family long before I ever really did because he was the one to teach me how to tie a tie amongst many other things their family did to help me out. I think about that whenever I see videos like this and hope they're all doing well.
4
u/BakedBrie1993 Aug 12 '26
My parents did that a lot. I had all the privilege growing up, but they grew up barely working class, with my grandparents as the only stable ones on the block.
My dad had a group of 5 Black male friends with not great home lives. Every single one of them went to college and med school because my grandparents built up their confidence and got them through it all. They are some of the best docs in the country. So proud!
My mom's parents took in cousins at various points too.
So my house was absolutely a safe space and resource for some of my lower income and/or unstable home life friends. No other way to do community in our eyes. That's that public school community work, which is why private school = segregation (I've written this sentiment twice today haha I'm on a roll).
I even created my own school bus. Id drive my car to the kids houses whose parents didn't care if they attended and at 6am id convinced them to get their asses in my car and to school... and they freaking did. Id stop them leaving throughout the day too. Felt like a proud momma when they graduated!

Every boy needs a man to show him how to grow right. Idc who you are or where you are from, every male needs someone in their life to show them what it means to be a real man. Love this.

That was my favourite part of being an amazon delivery driver helping my community. I’ve helped a woman move a couch to the curb her father just had a triple bypass and was resting. I helped a little girl whose skateboard fell into the gutter, I helped an older man wheelchair bound stuck in a yard in the summer heat. Even helped a child fix his bike chain because he didn’t have a father to show him.

The art of tying a tie is getting lost. I’m a woman and the other day, i wanted to do an all white fit with skinnies, a waist coat and a silk tie. I could not remember how to tie a tie for the life of me. I kept fumbling, it had been so long so i went to YouTube and relearned how to do a Windsor knot!!!
