Tips/Info Survival tips of blogging in Google AI Overview Era
Hello, how is your blog in Google AI overview era? Mine is decreased, but right now it is recovering a bit.
Survival tips of blogging in this AI era and where click from Google decline:
- Make non-commodity content: content that contain first hand experience. Example: I made blog post of experience how to manage time during my master degree: working while also doing my master degree
- Sell something: Selling content placement, service, product, affiliate, you name it. Monetization will make the blog survive, at least to buy domain and hosting renewal fee
- Personal branding: give your blog a nice branding so it will gain traffic from navigatinal intent. Off-page SEO will help too
- Try to optimize for Google Discover: search for trending topic in Google trend, so there is chance the blog post to show up in Google Discover.
Do you have any other tips to survive as blogger in this AI era?

Posts with insights has to do well! I've been refreshing older posts with fresh insights + adding some perspective to it. That seems to be working, however it's pretty early to determine but the GSC results for a month of work shows some +ve signs.

Older! It was the one they had published in 2021. Nahh I haven't yet refreshed any that's published recently primarily because it's all AI slop + none of it even ranks!

I have found updating older posts with fresh insights and adding unique case studies really helps set my blog apart. Also, engaging in comment sections on related platforms can funnel targeted readers. Using tools like ParseStream to track conversations about your niche across Reddit and more has made it easier for me to spot new topics and join trending discussions at just the right time.

Updating older post, so adding information gain? From other website as reference or your experience (first hand experience) bro/sis?

Updating old posts is underrated, most people just pump out new content and forget about what they already wrote. Fresh data or a new angle can push it back in rankings surprisingly fast.
I would add building an email list, even a tiny one, social media algorithms are a mess and search traffic is unpredictable but a newsletter is yours to keep.

I've blocked the bots from crawling my blog and using my work as training material. Blocking the bots means my content won't show in any gen AI chat or AI overview. And that's fine by me. They need to stop stealing our words and content we worked hard to create.
Personally I am so fed up of AI everywhere. I also switched the search engine I use to one that does not use AI overviews. I still click links and read articles!! And I like doing that!
I'd encourage others to do the same. It's the only way we can help eachother.

Your first point is a non-negotiable. Also, build an email list. You'll need a direct channel to your readers that doesn’t depend on Google sending clicks.
