Manga Spoilers / Discussion NNG or TBV? Spoiler

Which Boruto manga do you prefer and why? I know there's a bit of bias comparing a completed series to an ongoing one, so feel free to judge NNG off of its first half or so. I personally prefer NNG but I think TBV will come out on top when everything Ikemoto is building up pays off

NNG had better peaks from the Kawaki arc through the finale but it mostly revolved around Boruto and Kawaki. TBV gives more focus to the side characters but it hasn't reached the highs of NNG

Bro i agree but the pacing feels way worse and also the Big B always comes in ckutch (and its too obivious as he is now the strongest shinobi but still limiting him would be very good for the highs of an arc..) I did like to know about your thoughts..

NNG. The hype was at its peak for the ellipsis and now that we're there, it's not the same anymore.

NNG for sure. TBV is repetitive as hell, the pacing is absolutely brutal, and the new characters aren't making up for the lack of Naruto/Sasuke

NNG>>TBV

I think NNG is a 7/10 meanwhile TBV is a 5-6/10.

At least it finally feels like the plot is moving somewhere in TBV. TBV's biggest issues so far are:

-The pacing, it feels like the arcs were just made to waste time till the Boruto vs Kawaki flashforward. It doesn't organically feel like it leads up to that moment currently like they weren't there in the original drafts.

-The mostly non threatening Shinju making it feel like filler. Only Jura will do something let's be real.

-Build up, they skip Boruto's development and the world's too after omnipotence. Yodo's death was genuinely insulting due to the lack of build up which is cheap compared to Chiyo's death.

-Kawaki not being utilized well.

-The love plot which feels lacking compared to other media including other shounen(which don't even do it the best mind you). If you can't do it competently then don't make it feel like almost 50% of the focus. At best make it 5% of the focus.

Bro i understands you.. And also the boruto manga is monthly with mid art..(like okay i can compensate with monthly and all but man the pacing feels like of a weekly manga..

TBV could be more interesting but it's just so bland and not fleshed out I'd have to say NNG

Kodachi's NNG. You can see the literal decline in quality once Ikemoto took over towards the end.

NNG is still consistently better in my opinion even though TBV has hype moments

I prefer the worst filler arc like Funato than this whole trash of TBV. NNG is infinitely better in comparison because it at least has the potential to be something great which opened many plot threads for high-level stake. The ending of Part 1 was the MAKE or BREAK moment and Ikemoto fumbled so badly because he wanted to get to the timeskip so quick for rebrand hype design and aura farming.

Then you're going to love Fate and Case Files of Lord El Melloi II, for case files, Kodachi wrote the and adapted the novels to anime script. He never came up with the ideas, but you can't help but draw parallels between Kawaki and Gray.

Gray is the body and vessel for Artoria (Saber) the once and future king

She is being over written and when Saber was summoned in Zero and Stay Night, Gray was becoming Saber more and more.

Her body and appears became exactly like Sabers, then her body stopped aging and she gained Sabers magic circuits etc.

Yeah... + Kodachi excels in series like Code Geass Akito of the Rebellion and Case Files than Boruto.

I do wonder how different TBV would've been if he was still writing. Such wasted potential and that's sad. The mind melding thing between Boruto and Momoshiki probably would've been a lot more significant. I would've liked to see it more closer to some Shiki Roa thing(I know Kodachi didn't do it) which I think would've been the perfect way to utilize it. Boruto really becoming more otsutsuki like in personality.

The thing is... if we got with what we had with the movie + what was cut... then Kishimoto's Boruto would have been...

(Note this is just speculation and conjecture)

  • Momoshiki and Kinshiki will die and remain perma dead
  • Urashiki will survive and become the next villian of the movie, but significantly weaker than Momoshiki meaning not Naru/Sasu God Tier level, so that film/narrative will pass to Boruto & generation who will grow into their own an deal with him
  • Kawaki doesn't exist and Mitsuki will fulfil his true role as Boruto's friend and as the Sasuke/Orochimaru/Madara to Boruto. Likely his journey will be to understand what it means to be human

He would likely do a much more expansive world and cast than Ikemoto, but the story would be grounded to more realistic levels of power.

Boruto TBV is very... Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball issues, if you keep escalating the threats and if you keep scaling to a certain level of power, eventually you end up with the Goku & Vegeta problem where throughout a lot of Super, they're the only two relevant fighters.

NNG has a great ending, but TBV is better overall with the writing, plot, and side characters; however, it's still ongoing, so I'll withhold judgment

NNG it is not even close Boruto tbv is just a trash all character is just 1 dimensional character with no character development and emotions it just because teenage romance story it only good for shipper there is not single memorable villain not a single good arc like nng like kawaki introduction arc or ishiki arc even omnipotence arc there character feel alive we can feel emotion of character but in tbv anything comes wrong boruto come save a Day then he aurafarm this will literally repetitive every time sarada character literally because only love interest revolve around boruto also wtf is inojin Fallin in love with himawari it just feel unnecessary bro it just garbage slop

Nng became interesting after Kawaki was added. I like chapters that add more to the lore, and ones that add emotion to the story (like himawari vase) but how they ended up felt a bit rushed or unearned (for example, Boruto-Kawaki brotherhood, Kawaki’s feelings for Naruto, Kawaki’s sudden urge that led to Omni).

Tbv was interesting from the start, then it kind of went down maybe because of how it was repeating a bit, like defeat this villain then go to the next. Also it doesn’t help that they always win almost without no consequences. And also I’m not a fan of the ā€œloveā€ theme it’s going for. I believe it should focus on Boruto-Himawari siblings instead of the Boruto love triangle. I feel like Boruto loves his sister a lot as shown in NNG, but then in TBV Himawari gets like second or third priority.

Look how the table have turned. Boruto had an over priorities with the Uchiha family with his dressup and promised Sasuke to looked after Sarada who became the most important person while forgetting his own family and now in this chapter, Kawaki sworn to unconscious Naruto to protect Himawari instead as she likely become his biggest weak point especially when the Anime showed more development and bond with Himawari/Kawaki than than Boruto ever had with his sister.

NNG by far.

The biggest flaw to me in TBV is that Boruto just isn't a character anymore. All his spunk is gone. All his personality is gone. All his creativity is gone. To me, he comes off as an edgy self-inset OC, I think Boruto is written really badly right now. I really liked the first few chapters of TBV, I loved the information game everyone was playing. But it has (very slowly because the pacing is shit) devolved into what we have.

Tbv and its not even close

Tbv for me

For me it is TBV.

I like the Kobu plot, love that side characters like Inojin were able to shine and that more new gen characters have scenes compared to NNG, where the heavy lifting still has been done by Naruto and Sasuke up to chapter 55. The majority of the cast was overshadowed by Kawakis presence and Boruto felt like an inactive character.

TBV is doing a much better job at concentrating on the character this manga revolves around and it is refreshing to see how the new gen is starting to step up.

TBV>>>>NNG

Tbv, every chapter has been good, the plot complexity and mystery is amazing and it gives off aot vibes to me, which is my favourite of all time

1

u/Serentense 1d ago

Really? I am not even "BIG" fan of AOT but Boruto is nothing to compare with it.

TBV but without NNG imo couldn't hit the same. Without seeing what Boruto loose and his relationship, without seeing how much Shinobi society changed (so also without the Gaiden and one shots) imo it will be less interesting.

TBV, Sarada and Hima can finally have their moment in here, whereas NNG is too Kawaki-oriented at the expense of other characters.
