Alternative Suggestions A guide to help boycott big US tech and supporting more ethical alternatives!
The hope is that this guide and website can act as a simple way to introduce newcomers - whether it's you, friends or family - into this space and try something else besides the default options.
I have had a few people from the BDS movement respond to my guides, so I thought I would share directly. I am not an expert in this space, so, in addition to the companies listed on bdsmovement.net (Google, Microsoft and Amazon), please let me know if any of the recommended alternatives should be flagged.
There is also a community-driven, open-source site ( https://purchasewithpurpose.io ) that aims to make this even easier. This includes screenshots, ratings and a larger feature list.
I've also started tracking impact to help keep the momentum. If there are any stats, please share them so I can add them to the guides and, eventually, the website.
As always, I more than welcome criticism and ideas!

Question Should we boycott the companies that the boycotted companies hold shares in?
Hi! I’m thinking about buying a skin in Fortnite, so I was planning to buy some V-Bucks for that, but one of Epic Games’ shareholders is Walt Disney (9%). What do you think should be done in a situation like this? I really have no idea.

Rant Be careful you guys Reddit will give you strikes for hate speech if you mention anything negative about them.
So today I made a comment on a Reddit post about the VYBS app agreeing with a poster about the scummy behavior of the company and saying it made sense since they’re an Israeli owned company. Within a literal minute of making that comment I received a strike and a warning about hate speech. Crazy world we live in today, huh?

Question I'm a little confused
Okay so I'm confused are we supposed to boycott only those companies that directly or indirectly support Israel (like if parent company supports the occupation) or are we also supposed to boycott every company that belongs to those countries that support Israel cuz of you think about it for example if a buy a product from a German company provided that it has no direct or indirect ties with Israel but Germany supports Israel and this company would have to pay tax to the German government which in turn would be given to Israel cuz they support Israel
I am so confused cuz I have seen some websites saying certain companies are boycott safe as they don't support Israel but it's a company from one those countries who supports Israel.

Question Do we boycott CUNY? How should I boycott CUNY?
I am a high school student living in NY. My school had us submit applications for CUNY's that promised free tuition for us.
That was about a month or so ago and recently I learned that CUNY got exposed for investing in companies that supported Israel.
The people that I got this info from (CUNY for Palestine) did not mention refusing to apply to CUNYs as a form of boycott but I have a few questions.
- Should I withhold applying for a CUNY or should I protest as a CUNY student?
- I'm pretty sure "free tuition" just means that it's payed for (CUNY would still get money). But if anyone can clarify, that would be great. (It's probably just free application, not free tuition.)
- If I do withhold applying for CUNY, is there any other way of furthering my education? (I'm at around a 60-70 GPA and I am in senior year) EDIT: Western Governors University (not the one in Canada, that one is associated with Israel) does seem like a good alternative.

News Journalist in Gaza rescues 3-Year-Old Maryam Ahmed Ghanem who was in the building air-striked by Israel crying in the middle of the flames while she watched her mother burn to death. Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Three-year-old Maryam Ahmed Ghanem was asleep when an Israeli occupation strike hit her family’s apartment near the Abu Talal junction in Al-Rimal, west Gaza City, at around 4am on Wednesday. Journalist Ali Al-Jaafarawi ran to the building after hearing the blast. When he climbed up to the burning apartment, the first thing he found was Maryam, crying in the middle of the flames, with the fire and smoke too thick for anyone to reach her. He went in anyway, carried her out and handed her to people waiting to rush her to hospital. When he went back inside to look for others, the smoke overwhelmed him and he lost consciousness, but not before he saw a woman burning inside the apartment. That woman was Maryam’s mother, in her thirties, killed in the strike. Her father was killed at the start of the genocide. Maryam survived the fire, and she is now an orphan. Others in the apartment, including children, were wounded, and civil defence crews struggled to evacuate them, all of it a year into a ceasefire that was supposed to stop exactly this

Question question for the beauty professionals (specifically hair colorists) that participate in the boycott
Hi everyone
I’m not sure if this is out of place here, but what are my fellow hair stylists using at work? I joined the beauty industry a few years ago because of my passion but have taken a step back as I never liked supporting big companies whose morals dont align with mine to begin with, much worse after everything that has happened, however I find that everything is owned by these conglomerates. While theres plenty of shows and places for us to network and learn about new brands where I live, I haven’t found people with similar values in this industry and find that so many of these “small planet-aware” brands are owned or funded by the same conglomerates and investing groups.
I believe whats safe is Keune, Davines and Paul Mitchell (though do correct me on these if Im wrong)
I’m asking specifically about color and chemical treatments though other recommendations are also appreciated

News World’s largest nursing union cuts ties with Israeli drugmaker Teva

The world’s largest nursing union, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), has cut ties with Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva over its links to the country’s military and a long record of corruption and bribery scandals.
Following the decision, the RCN removed Teva UK as a sponsor and partner of an upcoming event at the union’s headquarters in London.
Pro-Palestine groups hailed the move as “a major breakthrough” for the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel over the Gaza genocide and its apartheid policies in the occupied West Bank.
The RCN, which represents nearly 600,000 nurses, acted after Nurses for Palestine and UK Healthcare Petitions to Royal Colleges (UKHPRC) campaigned against the partnership.
In a public letter, nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals warned that Teva UK is “entangled with the Israeli military, part of the institutional apparatus of apartheid and responsible for corporate malfeasance”.
The letter also criticised the RCN leadership’s invocation of “political neutrality” in response to previous attempts by members to “take a clear, principled stand on the ongoing genocide in Gaza”.
“Accepting commercial sponsorship from a corporate titan deeply woven into the Israeli state’s military apparatus, and its wartime mobilisation, is the very antithesis of neutrality,” the signatories wrote.

Question Skin care alternatives - la roche posay effaclar/nutritic
Hi,
I am in my twenties and I struggle with acne. La Roche Posay was the first brand that actually helped me minimise it.
Do you know any alternatives for these products:
- Effaclar cleansing gel
- Effaclar astrigent cleansing lotion
- Effaclar DUO+ SPF30
+ for the crispy winter weather, I have been using:
- Nutritic Intense Rich facecream,
which was the first cream that was heavy enough to give me comfort and protect me in winter, but also wouldn't block my pores.
Thank you sooo much in advance for any recommendations!

Question Morality of going on a trip to the UK?
I got a chance to go to the UK, and I probably won’t get such a chance again. I don’t know if I should go, considering that it supports Israel. I can’t choose another country, either I go or I don’t

Question Buying software and hardware from 3rd party vendors?
Hello, I’m super strict about boycotting but unfortunately, some things are hard to fully avoid like computer parts or certain software.
So would buying these things from 3rd party vendors be any different than purchasing directly from manufacturer or affiliated suppliers?
Like where I live, there are a couple stores that get Nvidia graphics cards (for example) for cheaper, usually new or open boxes. While it’s still NEW, the store is a 3rd party that hand picks those IDK how, meaning that they don’t buy hundreds of graphics cards directly from Nvidia. So is this any different?
Or for software, you can get windows for like $10 and cheaper games on cd key websites, are these also safe?
