Question Anyone else get these?
I'd love to know what this + the personal delivery cost the tax payers. Nice quality paper too! Big $$$! Didn't even print double-sided.
It says it's only for downtown Brampton residents. It's about his push for involuntary addiction treatment.
The QR code is for Votepatrickbrown.com/intervention

I wonder if this is his way to justify more bylaws to push the homeless out of downtown Brampton.

u/thinkvideoca 4d ago
he doesn't enforce the current bylaws as it is. Steven Lee and I were talking off camera about how it would be good for the homeless to have place with shower facilities, washrooms, a address and a phone to use for job applications. You won't see something like that while Brown is in power.

No conservative will back it because it is resource intensive, and it causes visible homelessness.
However, without the program, we still have visible homelessness.
Remember, Conservatives believe homeless people are lazy and unwilling to work. That's why they oppose helping them. Now I am sure 10-20% of homeless people are some sort of drain on the system, but I have no problem with my taxes going to help the 80% who don't want to freeze, starve, and juts need a safe place to put on a government application to get benefits and maybe even career counselling.
Radical, I know. But driving them out doesn't solve the problem. However, Brown is a stupidly blue conservative, and he'll try to push the narrative that if you don't see them, they don't exist.

we agree on something. Brown failed as a federal conservative. he failed as a provincial conversative, and he's failing as a municipal mayor.
2
u/Silverlightlive 4d ago
Yep. I have no idea how he got the votes in the first place "I've failed at every level, so I can fail here!"
He must have really kissed a lot of ass in the old folks homes.
2
u/thinkvideoca 3d ago
he still is. There are seniors homes that won't allow other candidates to organize meet and greets.

u/Silverlightlive 3d ago
Back in the day, that was some pretty sweet campaigning work. You'd get to hear some stories, spend some time with people who needed the company, and you might not change minds, but you'd at least combine two activities.
However, older people tend to skew conservative, so breaking them out of that would be tough.
There is also the "Candidate who doesn't have a scary name" syndrome....

Off camera? Why not campaign on that issue?

u/thinkvideoca 4d ago
the video was already so long. I also touched on it with a video I made today with Raghav Dhir. I haven't put it up here yet, it's only on youtube currently

Admittedly we do have issues, but the solution isn't to kick them out. That will just move them into the suburbs, into tent cities, etc.
I guess it was pretty stupid to shut down the outreach program that already existed because it sure as hell didn't fix the problem! NIMBY is never a good strategy!

Ironically, his campaign office is in the old Beer Store on Main, north of Vodden, behind the McDonald's. That valley at least previously was largely a tent city.
2
u/Silverlightlive 4d ago
I do remember that. The beer store did a pretty good job at pushing panhandlers off, but you knew they were near.

How are the current ones not enough?
2
u/Silverlightlive 4d ago
It's an old political trick. You can make it look like you are doing something by passing amendments to existing infrastructure.
That's why you get 10,000 things being renamed every time someone new gets in.
Every politician pretends to be tough on crime - look at their literature.

these people arent being helped when theyre forced into treatment. theyre overmedicated and mistreated, and come out worse mentally than they went in. ive seen people come back and be different. this isnt 'compassionate' intervention.

u/Fabulous-for 4d ago
Why is this made to downtown residents? Does the rest of brampton not need to know?
3
u/zanimum Brampton West 4d ago
It's probably more of a campaign issue downtown than in Castlemore, say.
His renewed push has been in the news, for instance:

u/Fabulous-for 4d ago
That still does not explain why the current Mayor Browne did not involve all of brampton?
3
u/Ocardtrick 4d ago
Apparently he lives downtown.
And one lf.rhe worst thinga about downtown is the drug use.
Can't even take money out from the ATM at the banks downtown om weekends because the lobby doors are locked to prevent homeless and druggies from setting up shop in there.
But please please please, don't re-elect Patrick Brown.
2
u/Fabulous-for 4d ago
So why has the mayor not notified all of Brampton?
1
u/BramptonRaised Bramalea 3d ago
Maybe because not all of Brampton lives downtown?
1
u/JakeasaurusR3x 3d ago
if he is able to instate his policy of forcing people to be held in "rehab" against their will, that will not only apply to people downtown.
He just believes that people seeing the more homeless individuals around the Brampton Innovation District Go Station will support it, so he can pretend it has city wide support.1
u/Fabulous-for 3d ago
So the mayor Brown is going to notify citenzens of issues only to the people in specific parts of Brampton ?
4
u/JakeasaurusR3x 4d ago
I'm hoping it's paid for by his campaign.
Since it's using the votepatrickbrown url it SHOULD be paid for by his donors...
Although it wouldn't be the first time campaign were billed to his office/taxpayers

u/Icy-Distribution4893 4d ago
In all fairness this isnt funded by taxpayers, its funded by campaign funding
4
u/DedAirSociety 4d ago
Patrick Brown would never do that (again) https://globalnews.ca/news/9219109/patrick-brown-charged-brampton-taxpayers-for-cpc-leadership-campaign-social-media-posts/

If so, it should say so, or mention that it's paid for by the authorized agent.
OP? Anything like that?

We received it in Peel Village. We’ve been living in Peel Village since 1965 (lived in Eldomar Heights for a year from 64-65), and we don’t consider Peel Village to be “downtown”, because in the sixties, Peel Village was a new subdivision being built on the edge of town. But, as time marches on things change…
2
u/DedAirSociety 3d ago
The city definitely doesn’t consider you downtown either. I think he thinks he will get the answer he wants in the survey by including Peel Village residents

Are there no rules about candidates using their existing titles (e.g. Mayor) on election materials?
1
u/Ocardtrick 4d ago
I don't think the mayor has the power to force people into rehab. Surely that's the province's purview?
2
u/BramptonRaised Bramalea 3d ago
No, the mayor himself cannot force people into rehab, but laws can be changed to permit it. Just as the mayor does not personally police the city, but people are hired to do that.

9
u/JakeasaurusR3x 4d ago
to be clear, what he means by "compassionate intervention" is forcefully detaining addicts and drugs users to "treat" them.
multiple studies have proven that forced rehabilitation does not last, and in fact, raises the risks of OD and harm immediately following the subjects release.
