Hi all,

Beer Store is attempting a world record and giving 20% more bonus on deposits if we return on Oct 17. So, if you are planning to drop off containers to beer store this week, then do it on sat, Oct 17.

As per the website (accessed today at 06:00 PM), all 6 stores in Brampton are participating.

Good luck!

I like the idea, but I hate lineups.

So I'll continue to return in the middle of the week when virtually no one is there.

That is a fair point. It may get crowded on saturday!

What is that day every year where they take back empties for charity? I never line up for returns, so I don't know. (Weekday returns are easy)

But those are packed and winding out the door, onto the street.

I don't blame them for doing it. I don't blame the people for doing it. Hey, donating to charity or an extra few cents seems like a darned good idea.

However, I do a brutal calculus with my time. Way back in the day (2002) I lived in Halifax. All recycling is done by a central agency there. So you could spend 15-20 minutes cleaning up a park, grab only the empty water bottles and beer cans, and turn them in for a coffee.

We were pretty poor back then, and it gave me an excuse to go for a walk. I'd pick crap up, go to the recycling centre, and get myself a coffee and my ex wife a tea. We couldn't have afforded it otherwise. She was wise enough not to question me, as I wasn't taking extra money out of the account or anything. So she just appreciated the gift. (It wasn't an everyday thing)

But if they are doing this, they are going to be swamped. People don't understand the time of life calculus.

Although, I honestly don't know how many people are sitting on stacks of empties in their basement, and how much extra money this could produce. That's a separate thought for now. At most, I could return about $5 bucks worth of empties. I know other people could easily return more. And for them, maybe it's worth the extra line up?

Oh nooooooo! But man, thank you for depositing back it into thr system. You are amazing for collecting all this and returning it into system that appropriately recycles it.

We regularly clean parks and it boggles my mind how many cans are tossed outside this loop/deposit system!

If I had reddit awards, I would give you one! :)
