I thought there was a li'l romance happening between these two. Or if not, I thought it was a fun take and I got COMPLETELY OBLITERATED in the comments of a post once. This was the first Zelda game I ever played. I assumed Zelda was like early 20's and Urbosa was late 20's. Apparently not.

My headcanon here is that Urbosa had actually planned a romantic get together with a lover there on Vah Naboris. Hence the pillows.

And here comes Zelda. Sits down next to her starts teenage angsting about Link and the prophecy. Then falls asleep.

So, Urbosa sends for Link to get that teenage angst away from her date night. Wakes Zelda up with lightning like this because she's had it. It is getting late and she wants these kids gone for the remainder of the night.

I also have a bit of a head canon that she got it on with (then still adult and like 25 year old) Purah. Because Purah must have picked up that snap gesture that she does somewhere. And it is Urbosa's signature move.

Meanwhile Purah is tinkering somewhere in Naboris waiting for Link and Zelda to finally get lost.

"Yeah, no problem, Princess. You go with Link. You fell asleep already, you are tired. No need to wear yourself out. I am just going to finish up calibrating some of the gears and other parts. I'll get back with Urbosa later. Now, byeeeeeeee."

I headcanon that Urbosa and Zelda's mom had a little something somethin going on

I know this is a popular trope. And as a lesbian I am all for. Urbosa certainly had a bit of the hots for Zelda's mom. However if you line up the ages it gets a bit miffy.

Zelda is 16 during this memory. Urbosa is like 30(?). So, Urbosa was like 14 when Zelda was born. I don't think Zelda's mom was that young when she had Zelda. Especially since Rhoam looks like he's at least 50. But, okay, Fantasy tropes and kings having a grey beard aside. His age maybe isn't that important. But he is at least 30 when Zelda was born.

So, I would say Zelda's mom was at her youngest 20 when Zelda was born. Maybe even a few years older. And she died when Zelda was 6 or so.

Which makes her at least 6 years older than Urbosa. Which would let me come to the conclusion that Urbosa had definitely a teenage crush on Mom. But I don't think the Queen must have done much with it.

Sure, you could say that the Ladies had a romance after Zelda was born. When Urbosa then was like 18 and the Queen 24 or so. Still a bit icky. It's possible. Must have been very covert then. Would have given quite a political uproar probably if that had gotten out. Don't think the Gerudo would have been happy with the married Hylian Queen hooking up with their barely legal Chief to be. Don't think the Hylians would have made their late Queen's mistress a Champion 10 years later either.

Just curious, where do you get the age gap between Urbosa and Zelda’s mom? Afaik Urbosa’s age is never stated, and from the cutscenes/diary in the DLC she talks a lot about how she and Zelda’s mom were best friends, so I was always of the impression that they were around the same age.

By the age she is in the memories we see. But, of course, we don't know for sure. She could be 40 too. Just going by the fanon consensus she is about 30 years of age. Still, if she and Zelda's mum were the same age.... can't have been more than a teenage flirtation/romance. Because as is: Zelda's mom married Rhoam and died young.

But, truthfully, the whole Rhoam looking like a Pensionado when Zelda is 17 is a bit of a problem when you think too much about it. And Zelda's mom being forced to marry him while so much younger and being queer and then having a child with him too would make the story more Game of Thrones than Zelda.

I always saw Urbosa as the same or at least close to the same age as Zelda's mom since ages in Zelda are iffy at best when it comes to reality or even how they look. I mean, Impa is like, 150 in the second game and still able to do...all her crazy Shieka stuff. I also don't think Rhoam was as old as he looked. They just adore to make him look like a 'wise old man' which, I don't see at all with how he fumbled Zelda's training.

But yeah, it totally would have to be on the down low, but I also head canon that Gerudo town is an oasis for wlw and no one there would have blinked an eye or even said anything if a woman stuck in a mans world took vacations with very close friends in Gerudo town as often as they could. While there was a strong community around the Gerudo women who chose to leave and find husbands, there also seemed to be an acceptance to those who had decided to stay and keep the town running and raise the children who never left.

But its all good either way. Legend of Zelda is so loose with its lore, the time line shenanigans and whats 'canon' and not is so wiggly that I just sorta...choose what I feel like anyway.

I totally agree with you. It is a bit iffy. But I like to think about this stuff. Also think it is a bit of a cop out that Gerudo town is not wlw heaven. It should be. I like the headcanon myself that the Gerudo also think Rhoam is King Regent and the moment Zelda turned 17 she should have become Queen. Since the women of the Zelda line are the Goddess reincarnated.. what's that voe doing calling himself King? Prince Consort you are, mister. Once read a fic where they kicked everyone out of the city that came proclaiming they had a message from King Rhoam. Because they did not agree with the statement of him being King legimately at all.

It is a bit of a problem with nintendo games making their protagonists so young. The heroes are always teenagers. Xenoblade 2 has the same problems a bit if you try to make the relationship lore work. Like 15 year old Rex hooking up with blades that are hundreds of years old. Eh.. yeah.

Where is it implied she's lesbian?

5

u/Petpati 1d ago

Does it matter? Its my head canon

2

u/DatBoi_BP 1d ago

I mean that's fine but you're far from the only one that's mentioned it so I figured there was some lore I missed lol

3

u/Petpati 1d ago

Haha, sorry. I've dealt with too many people who hate the idea of going off canon and get a bit defensive cause I rarely rely on canon at all anymore for fan stuff.

So, with a lotta zelda stuff its more vibes, cause Nintendo refuses to canonize a lot of stuff. For Urbosa and Zelda's mom, I think its almost entirely from the cut scene from her Champions Ballad. She speaks really fondly of Zelda's mom, and the fact that she seems to want to step into a motherly roll to Zelda herself feels like a good partner thing someone might do.

And of course the Gerudo give off a pretty big amazonian/women loving women sorta vibe.

But I also love the idea that the Gerudo are super accepting of a wlw lifestyle, cause it seems like being in military or just generally those that choose to stay in Gerudo Town aren't vilified or thought of as weird for not going out to find a voe

All women society…reasonable expectation

1

u/DatBoi_BP 18h ago

That…isn't enough to imply that any particular woman is a lesbian there. But it's okay, I think some other explanations make sense for the headcanon

1

u/TheMothGhost 13h ago

That's the thing with any story. The reader or the person consuming the story is free to fill in whatever details are not explicit. They're free to ignore details that are explicit, that's the joy of literature. It's not a text of facts, it's a conversation dealing with imagination between an author and a reader. You can imagine that Urbosa is a lesbian or Link is actually 45 or Beedle is ftm or Ganon doesn't even exist, it's a collective hallucination from Hyrule. (A tulpa? I think that's the term.)

But anyway there's no rules or anything with this stuff. People can imagine whatever they want and nobody is right or wrong.

1

u/DatBoi_BP 13h ago

Agreed on all counts. My point in the previous comment was only that the all-woman society isn't sufficient to demonstrate that Urbosa is lesbian. That there are any lesbians in Gerudo? Sure. Any specific woman? Definitely not sufficient.

2

u/TheMothGhost 12h ago

I think it's moreso because that's what would happen in the human world. We have no scientific data on this, except that we do have women's prisons, a real example of a women's only community, where, in western culture, sapphism flourishes.

While I made the original comment about Urbosa being lesbian, I do think the vast majority of gerudo are ALARMINGLY straight and conservative. 😅

u/AlphaMikeFoxtrot87 8h ago

Sure, just saying perhaps the odds are higher. Of course it is known they go out looking for husbands

At the most Zelda is 17, depending on when this memory takes place. Urbosa is quite a bit older as she was already Chef when she meet the Queen just after Zelda was born.
