Merrick was only briefly seen in the Buffy series in a single episode, portrayed by the delightful actor Richard Riehle. TMZ says he passed from natural causes.

i just received my copy of the complete series brand new from ebay, and i have no doubt that i received a genuine copy. the discs look great and i can tell it is dual layer and not bootleg. the only issue is that it won’t play on my xbox series x. i tried a couple different dvds as well as a blu ray, and they played completely normally. i tried a power cycle and reinstalled the blu ray app with no luck.

i also have a dedicated blu ray player, and when i tried that it worked normally. the menu is animated and behaved as expected, and special features played normally. at this point i have to conclude that it’s a strange issue with my xbox, but want to check if anyone has had this issue before.

for what it’s worth, it is the correct region.

When the show was on I didn't watch it. But I was a Montessori teacher, Upper Elementary, which means a 4th - 6th grade mixed classroom and I swear they were all Buffy fans. All the girl's had a Tara part in their hair. The boys loved "Out for a walk, Bitch!" We even had a Xander in class.

I can't recall why, but I was looking at one of the boys, over my glasses, waiting with a dubious expression, when he got all excited and told me I was just like Giles! After that, a good portion of the class referred to me as Giles.

Of course, since I hadn't watched the show yet, I didn't realize what a huge compliment that was. Now I treasure the memory.

So, has anyone else gotten a nice Buffy centered compliment?

I'm an obsessive BUFFY fan but I hate how much the show's writers and producers clearly simply do not care if things make any sense in the show from one episode to the next. Inconsistencies are everywhere -- vampires constantly claim "I don't have breath" or "my heart doesn't beat" while smoking cigarettes or talking on the phone or having sex with living women and it makes me crazy. It's obvious that vampires are indeed "your loved one" NOT "the monster that killed your loved one".

This is not a thread for comments like "lighten up it's just a TV show". Obviously I can't prevent people from making comments like that but they are absolutely off topic here. This post and this book are for people like me who want BTVS to make sense and seem real and be something that can be taken seriously. If you are content for BTVS to be a show that makes less sense than FRIENDS , then you go right on ahead watching Angel talk about how he "knows Darla's scent" when he's only ever known her as an Undead and therefore should have no idea what she smells like as a living person, but he SHOULD certainly be able to tell from her scent that she's alive, at least, but he doesn't. Go on watching Giles keep living in the same apartment where he found his murdered girlriend's body in his bed. Never worry about how Zachary Kralik can have migraines with a dead brain, or where he got all those Kodak film packs from.

But here's a tidbit I talk about in the book: if vampires are "not your friend but the monster that killed your friend", then that means this is what happens:

1. Vamp sucks someone's blood until they're nearly dead
2. Vamp cuts themselves and feeds that person's blood, now contaminated with the vampire element (whatever it may be) back to them
3. Person dies. Their soul, the immaterial repository of their immortal identity, goes somewhere else.
4. Dead body undergoes necromantic mutation while a demonic spirit sets up housekeeping in it.
5. For some reason never explicated, this demonic spirit in a dead necromantically mutated body has access to all the victim's living memories and always impersonates the victim. Constantly. I mean, right down to the last detail. Jesse was still crushing on Cordelia as a vamp. Angelus remembered Liam's family and Liam's brief, suicidal flirtation with Darla. William still loved his mother. and Drusilla. Darla still loved the Master.
6. New vampire, a demonic spirit in an undead body, rises and starts hunting the living.

According to Giles and the Watcher's Council, this is what happens. So, now:

1. Angelus fangs a stupid but pretty Romany girl of the Kalderosh clan.
   
2. Kalderosh elders go ape shit and curse Angelus by returning his soul to him.
   
3. Liam wakes up in his body again for the first time since his soul fled after Darla killed him. For some weird reason -- again, never explained -- after a second all the memories of what Angelus did while Liam was off in Limbo or Purgatory or whatever come flooding back. These memories are first person POV and they feel real so Liam starts weeping; he's a little shit but he was never as bad as Angelus. Now Liam is tormented forever by guilt for what Angelus did.

You see the problem here? The Gypsies didn't curse Angelus, the creep who murdered their princess. Angelus doesn't give af. The Gypsies put Liam back in the driver's seat and shoved Angelus into the trunk. And now Liam feels tormented by everything Liam did driving that car all over Europe. Running people over. Kidnapping them and torturing them. But LIAM DIDN'T DO ANY OF IT. His guilt is unwarranted. He feels like he did all that shit but he did not.

He doesn't need redemption. He needs six weeks with the Judd Hirsch psychiatrist in ORDINARY PEOPLE. He is not guilty, he is neurotic.

Also, if Darla meets Liam and is smitten by him and she fangs him and shares blood with him and he comes back, he's not Liam. He's Liam's mutated body with some demonic spirit in it. Maybe it's Argozza the Nose Biter. Maybe Darla doesn't like Argozza the Nose Biter, maybe Argozza is a total tool. See? And this happens every time a vamp sires some human out of love. The Master loved a dying prostitute and sired her, but he didn't get her, he got maybe Shuxshanxs the Ankle Sucker. Drusilla was intrigued by this spaz of a poet but she didn't get him, she maybe got Shnarkel the Mucous Licker. And now they are stuck with these random weirdos from the demon dimension for eternity. It's not the thrilling moving blood soaked Gothic romance that lasts for eternity we all clutch our breasts and swoon over. It's just this fucked up Undead speed dating plan.

But if vampire victims don't lose their essential identities during the turn... if a 'soul' is something else and Jesse is still Jesse, he is still actually "your friend", not "the monster that killed your friend" -- well, then. Liam, Angelus, Angel, doesn't matter -- he's all the same guy and without his soul to stop him, he did all that shit. And when vamps sire mortals they get the mortals they liked. It's all romantical and stuff.

Why do people, even nice people like William and his mom, become monsters when they become vampires? Because they lose their souls. The soul isn't what we think it is, it is not an immaterial immortal thing that holds our memories and identity. That's the spirit. Vampires keep their original sprit. The soul is a psychic organ that distinguishes humans from demons. It allows humans to have a preverbal, telempathic emotional link with each other, so we can cooperate and unite and team up. And feel loyalty and friendship and love. Which demons can not.

Without this psychic organ, Jesse is still Jesse, he's still more or less Xander's friend, he's still crushing on Cordelia. But his attitude and his priorities have changed. Now he has a ravening, perpetual, never slaked thirst for human blood, and no feelings of empathy or loyalty or friendship to keep him from acting out on that hunger. He's also really strong and almost indestructible. To a creature without a soul, other beings are just meat... food and toys, that's all. The only exception seems to be with sires and their fledglings, apparently there is a link there. The Master and Darla, Darla and Angelus, Angel and Drusilla, Drusilla and Spike. Jesse and whoever sired him, probably. But this is the only loyalty vampires feel, the only 'love' that works for them. (Spike and Harmony clearly didn't really even like each other very much. Harmony blubbers about love like a teenager with a crush; that's not love.)

I think Cassie would have made an excellent late addition to the Scoobies. Dawn would finally have an age-equivalent friend, possibly a little arc with Kit for a couple of their own high school adventures apart from the grownups. Idk, just some thoughts I had while watching Help.

I don't hate season 6. I think it's well done even if it's depressing. But there's one thing about it that really bugs me. How in the world can they have a funeral for Buffy with a burial plot and a headstone and yet....no one outside of their group knows she's dead? That makes zero sense. Did they bury her themselves? Was there no coroner or report about her death? If they hid her death there shouldn't have been a burial in a cemetery. I know it's kind of minor but it bugs me.
