Trials Choose one!
Which side will you choose?
- Left side: A chessboard of rice, but Fibonacci sequence! (1,1,2,3,5,8,13…)
- Right side: $200 in $20 double eagles every day for life! (Pre-33, melt value)

That is near infinite rice but I'll take the money

You actually have to live 27 years to breakeven assuming 5% gold price increase, instant rice sale, and 8% ROI. I guess no one did the math 😓

F(n)≈phin/sqrt(5), so F(66)-1=sum_164 F(k) is about phi66/sqrt(5), or about 2.778*1013 grains of rice. Assume I use on the order of 10,000 grains per cup. Then I have about 2.778*109 cups. Round down to 2*109 cups. Assume $0.50/cup. That gets me $109, which is $100 million.
The melt value of a $20 double eagle is around $4000 today because it’s 90% gold. Finite geometric series: 4000*365*sum_054 1/(1.02)k (54 being my remaining life expectancy according to actuarial tables and 1.02 being 2% inflation) is around $50 million.
The rice may be a hassle, but I get twice as much and I can sell all of it now instead of in drips and drabs over the next fifty years. Plus it’s given instead of limited by whether or not I happen to die early, so it’s a useful hedge in that sense too.

Fundamental review: a cup of rice is merely 8 cents. Time value of money makes it around 27 years instead of 54. Pending actual review.

Only 8? Wow. Okay, so $20 million. Then if you’re right about the time-value thing, I’m not sure how to take that into account—do I only calculate from 0 to 27, take the even terms from 0 to 54, divide by something like 1.04 instead of 1.02, or something else? If the former, that’s around $32 million. If the second or third, that’s around $25 million. I just realized I haven’t taken investment into account either, though, so I guess still the rice?

I threw 8% on market for investments and 5% on the gold spot price. Still, it turns the chessboard puzzle from an impossibility to a legitimate amount of rice.

I don’t know money math (only pure math), so I have no idea what it means to throw percentages on market or for a spot price. I can tell you that 5 and 8 are consecutive Fibonacci numbers, but that’s about it.

I’m no good at the actual series functions for this. It’s some compound interest calculation with a breakeven point, but you could probably just sidestep it with some estimate like P=e^rt.

Daily money vs a ridiculous mountain of rice that I would realistically have no way to deal with before it was ruined and worthless lol. I don't even need to bother figuring out what the actual values are.

Options and commodities are a thing you know…

u/Z3400 17h ago
Sure, but this implies I am simply given the rice. It does not imply that I receive some sort of contract for rice deliveries and a way to sell it all. Unless the ai screwed something up when I juse quickly checked this, apparently raw bulk rice is traded at only about $600usd per metric ton. So that mountain of rice is worth about $300million, if I can sell it all. The other option is about $40k daily, which is already an absurd amount but in a much more easily managed way.

Real talk, where did the rice come from? 🤔

Magic chessboard genie. Obviously

I’m already sick of thinking about that amount of rice. Give me gold and I’ll buy what I want
