We can only play who they put in front of us (please I am still coping from this weekend).

Yeah which is why we we had little room for error. That was a bad bad loss to take.

Bro we’re such a quality loss Virginia is still undefeated in conference play!

8

Who’s only loss is the same conference team that beat Georgia Tech.

You're basically in a position now where you have to beat Georgia to get an at-large bid

12

u/KansasEF5Tornado Kansas State Wildcats • Paper Bag Nov 03 '25

Yeah and that's basically not gonna happen barring something magical unfortunately.

6

u/zedsmith College Football Playoff • Georgia Bulldogs Nov 03 '25

I wouldn’t be so sure after last years game. You really look at how Georgia is playing and think “all hope is lost”?

8

u/KansasEF5Tornado Kansas State Wildcats • Paper Bag Nov 03 '25 edited Nov 03 '25

last year we were 7-4 entering, so UGA maybe looking ahead a bit, even if kirby and the players say they weren't. This year UGA will probably more focused on this game, which will make it a lot harder to win.

5

It’s gonna be another good game

7

u/KansasEF5Tornado Kansas State Wildcats • Paper Bag Nov 03 '25

It should be good, but can we win it is the question, winning a close game against UGA is really hard to do.

Brent Key vs unranked teams turns his coaching meter to 0 vs ranked teams it's up to 11. You guys will probably beat us this year after losing to Pitt just to make it hurt worse.

20

I want to beat you both, but I'd take it.

12

I mean true

But I do have strong feelings about your flair, so just remember your defense owes your offense an apology

9

u/trapchopin Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 03 '25

As an ND fan, I feel you. The players can’t choose the schedule and ultimately an undefeated or 1 loss team at the end of the season is likely in the playoffs. Just matters who you lose to and how you lose, as well as winning convincingly against worse teams.

Of these teams, Oregon, Georgia Tech, and Mizzou combined just have one more loss than Tennessee by itself. And yet, somehow, Tennessee is still ranked despite 3 losses and not having any top 40 wins. Why?

It's because the SEC mid teams get way overrated. There's no reason for Tennessee to have ever been ranked so high to begin with. Zero wins over a team with a winning record. Close losses sure, but no signature or even decent wins.

Oklahoma's best win is Michigan. USC also beat Michigan. Why are the rankings so far apart?

Iowa, Nebraska, Washington, Michigan don't get any of that benefit of the doubt. Iowa lost by 5 to Indy.

Like walking into Kinnick and winning by a comfortable margin is supposed to be easy.

That place is one of the hardest places for teams to go into and win, especially outside of the blue bloods. Kinnick Voodoo is real

36

u/tmart12 Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 03 '25

Tenn should be unranked

OU does have a better resume than USC. Top 4 wins for OU are vs 18, 25, 48, 58. Top 4 wins for USC are vs 18, 37, 87, 94. Losses pretty similar. USC picking up the Nebraska win was solid and finally got them above Michigan but maybe voters are less rewarding given the win came post-Raiola injury.

Michigan/USC/maybe Washington should be above Mizzou and Tenn but otherwise it's a question of the B12, ACC and G5 teams rather than SEC teams given H2H comparisons. Iowa's resume is poor. Nebraska's is ok but just got a lot worse with 3rd loss plus Raiola out.

26

u/MrF_lawblog Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

Exactly! Thank you. I hadn't even looked at Mizzou.

Mizzou's best win is Kansas. Why are they not ranked 25th at best? They have literally beaten nobody and got taken to double OT by Auburn but ranked ahead of Michigan, USC, Iowa, and Washington. Absurd.

14

u/LittleJerryLawler Oklahoma Sooners • Ole Miss Rebels Nov 03 '25

It was like that last year with them. Never beat anybody but always managed to stay in the Top 25.

1

u/PoolSZN Texas A&M Aggies • Houston Cougars Nov 04 '25

They don’t schedule anyone and dinkel runs the score up as much as he can on everyone shitty they play. Works on the voters every year, seems might even get him a big boy job

2

u/tmart12 Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 03 '25

Michigan and USC above Mizzou, yes

Washington, maybe

Iowa, no

13

u/MrF_lawblog Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

Fair for Iowa, we'll find out this week. As we will with Mizzou as well.

Washington's Illinois win is better than anything on Mizzou's schedule to date.

8

u/blueline7677 Indiana Hoosiers Nov 03 '25

I think Iowa is better than their resume suggest. Similar to Tennessee having close losses but no real win. They just are properly rated where Tennessee isn’t. Mizzou to a lesser extent.

u/Jarkside /r/CFB Nov 03 '25

Mizzou’s close loss to Vandy looks worse after they choked against Texas. Alabama is ascendant though.

1

u/Dull_Conversation669 Georgia Bulldogs Nov 03 '25

Right, imagine struggling vs auburn, who does that? /s

48

u/AssistDirect5790 Auburn Tigers Nov 03 '25

Exactly. But if you sift through the comments throughout cfb Reddit somehow the SEC still doesn’t get its full respect and it “isn’t fair” how much easier everyone else has it.

The SEC is the best conference throughout. I rarely see that in dispute. But this is the crux of the annoyance from everyone else and I totally get it.

24

u/SteemieRayVaughn Ohio State • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 03 '25

I do not think the SEC is noticeably better than the B1G top to bottom this season. Bring up draft picks, championships, etc etc but THIS SEASON, there is an argument that the SEC isn't the best conference.

24

u/Adart54 Georgia Bulldogs • Oregon State Beavers Nov 03 '25

If you draw a line across from the first in each conference and match them up. I think Indiana and the bad OSU are favored, and the rest of it the sec is favored. That's ignoring y'all's bottom 2 teams cause y'all are the b18 and we got 16 teams. Of course lines mean jackshit but its the closest we can get without actually playing the games which probably won't happen

14

u/Day85Day Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

You hear this argument every year and then we get to the bowl games and teams like Illinois beat South Carolina.

5

u/Surelynotshirly Tennessee Volunteers Nov 04 '25

The SEC has a winning record against every conference over the last like 5,10,15, or 20+ years.

So no, your point is invalid. You can use single data points to back you up but that's idiotic. tOSU lost to a mediocre VT the year they won a title.

You have to use the aggregate or you're just trying to intentionally be biased.

We played Iowa twice in a bowl game over the years and both times hearing how vaunted their defense was and how good they were only for us to blow them out.

13

u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell Nov 03 '25

I remember when the 8th best B1G team, USC was supposed to get clowned by LSU and A&M last season. How did that go?

22

u/Adart54 Georgia Bulldogs • Oregon State Beavers Nov 03 '25

8

u/Shenanigangster Virginia • Jefferson–Eppes Trophy Nov 03 '25

4

u/super1s Tennessee • Middle Tennessee Nov 03 '25

Isn't that fucking weird? I love it.

10

u/The_PantsMcPants Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

Sorry, but Iowa's resume is terrible. They lost to a 5-4 B12 team, they haven't beaten anyone with a pulse, I can't understand why people keep pining for them in the rankings. And they are 26th anyway, who cares parsing between 23-26?

12

u/Mr-R--California Nov 03 '25

They lost on a last second field goal in a rivalry game, and they were tied with Indiana late into the 4th quarter. They’ve had convincing wins over Minnesota and Wisconsin (similar scores to Ohio State). Not saying they should be ranked but “terrible” isn’t how I’d describe their resume. The next 2 weeks will tell us for sure everything we need to know about Iowa

4

u/srs_house Swaggerbilt Nov 03 '25

and Wisconsin

Nobody gives a shit. Not even Wisconsin fans, I'm pretty sure the only complaint they have is why they aren't losing by a bigger margin so they can fire Fickel.

they were tied with Indiana late into the 4th quarter.

Iowa's greatest strength is turning every game into a rock fight. IU outplayed them, but they did manage to contain that offense better than anyone else has. Their defense and ST always gives Iowa the chance.

On the flip side, you have a 25-24 win over 2 games back where Iowa had to come back from down 11 in the 2nd half and had a whopping 68 passing yards.

That's why voters don't trust Iowa. Maybe you get that team, maybe you get the one who destroyed Minnesota.

3

u/Mr-R--California Nov 03 '25

I don’t disagree with your broader points, which is why I said I’m not arguing for them to be ranked. But re read my point about Wisconsin besides just cherry picking for your rant. It was in reference to the margin of victory

4

u/idontgiveafuqqq Nov 03 '25

Oklahoma's best win is Michigan. USC also beat Michigan. Why are the rankings so far apart?

Might be the part where USC lost to illinois.

Iowa, Nebraska, Washington, Michigan don't get any of that benefit of the doubt.

Iowa lost to Iowa State. Meanwhile, Washington is getting the same treatment, 0 impressive wins except maybe at Illinois.

1

u/Ambitious-Weekend861 Nov 03 '25

The rankings are wierd, cause it’s a mix of “this team has won a bunch, they gotta ba ranked”

And of talent composition and ability to beat XYZ team.

FSU is ass and wake has been pretty good this year, I’d wager we’re the better overall team,

but wake has 0 talent and FSU has all the talent in the world so yeah we got whooped but prior to Saturday where would you put FSU ya know

2

u/vicblck24 Tennessee Volunteers Nov 03 '25

Because someone has to be ranked there and mine as well keep us there I guess

13

u/Specialist-Clue-7186 Nov 03 '25

Because Tennessee was a missed field goal away from beating the #5 team in the country.

How you win and lose matters. Not sure why people always ignore that. Or conveniently leave that out whenever it’s an SEC team.

30

u/luis1972 Ohio State Buckeyes • The Alliance Nov 03 '25

Then, explain how Iowa, who narrowly lost to #2 Indiana and has one less loss than Tennessee, isn't getting that same benefit?

11

u/Specialist-Clue-7186 Nov 03 '25

They should be ranked. And they are literally #26 so they are getting benefits lol.

There are way worse offenders in these polls. Why is Oregon 6? Why is Memphis ranked? Michigan at 21 is way more offensive.

8

u/luis1972 Ohio State Buckeyes • The Alliance Nov 03 '25

I do think Tennessee's ranking is pretty egregious, but I also agree on Oregon. Nothing about that team screams top 10 to me. Taking PSU to overtime is not that impressive.

5

u/Specialist-Clue-7186 Nov 03 '25

Fair enough. Good news is it will all work itself out. Looking at the teams just out of the Top 25, Iowa is really the only one I see that should absolutely be ranked. Not to mention the new CFB playoff poll will probably have Tennessee out.

Tennessee playing @ Florida and against Vandy will solve the ranking issue. The SEC has been an inconsistent bloodbath this year so it definitely makes it harder and more subjective than in years prior.

7

u/inevitably-ranged Tennessee Volunteers Nov 03 '25

We don't know either, but we have played alot of top 15 teams to the point we are totally "one play away" from winning

I don't agree with that keeping us in personally, but if AP actually watches games maybe that's why?

We blatantly should have beaten UGA, and UA should have been just a few point loss at their place at night but Vegas had some impacts in the final score but obviously one end zone play swung it 14 points and basically ruined the game. Oklahoma was a joke of a game that proved neither team should be in the top 20.... But we absolutely should have won just like the scoop n score player was lined up and should have been called offsides

Any other week I fully agree, Indiana has shown they can play to their full potential. We have not yet, so they deserve it.

4

u/lexbuck Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

I’m cautiously optimistic that the reason we haven’t played to our fullest potential is that Day is managing games and the season like he did last year. Saving guys and keeping them fresh for the playoff. He knows what we have and knows that we can win easily and don’t need to run up scores. We’ve looked damn good and most games the starters haven’t really played in the 4th quarter

They are the only 3-loss ranked team and they are on a bye this week and play NMSU next week. So they are at minimum guaranteed to be ranked for 3 more weeks despite having no good wins.

28

No they arent because they will likely not be ranked by the CFP poll and the AP falls in line after that

6

Yeah I actually agree with you, I'm just saying if we go by AP then us staying sorta can make sense and call it "eye test"

Iowa has a bad loss. That the biggest difference.

Yep, and this is part of the fun of college football. We are all here cause we love to argue with each other about how our team is better. If we were logical, we wouldn't even bother talking about this stuff until the last ranking.

10

u/FlyProfessional2341 Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

I appreciate what you are doing. My remark wasn’t directed at the effort. It’s just truly impossible to know who is who and what is what from week to week. What if Penn St beat Oregon? Would their season have turned out differently?

4

u/Melkor1000 Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

A lot of the SEC teams are in a weird place. Those teams are very inconsistent this year and it makes gauging their strength of schedule difficult.

4

u/protodolo Georgia Bulldogs Nov 03 '25

Feels like the SEC just doesn't have a great defensive team this year, I think OU is probably the best and Tennessee moved the ball at will on them.

3

u/DirtThief Oklahoma • Red River Shootout Nov 03 '25

I think the balance of the rules of football right now just lends itself to no defense really being able to 'shut down' the best offenses.

I mean even when you go back and look at our CFP game. You guys had one of the best defenses in the country that year and we had 100 yards more offense in that game than Tennessee did in this game. The difference maker is the number of stops the defense actually can make and whether that gives you a shot to win.

1

u/gsfgf Georgia Tech • Georgia State Nov 03 '25

That's CFB in general, tbh.

3

u/jjonez18 Alabama Crimson Tide Nov 03 '25

This is a compilation of data that gets updated weekly. Not a week to week comparison. The more weeks compiled, the clearer the picture. Texas', rise and fall is accounted for.

2

u/FlyProfessional2341 Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 03 '25

That’s my point. The only valuable pull is at the end of the year. Today’s top 10 win is tomorrows top 40 win.

1

u/jjonez18 Alabama Crimson Tide Nov 03 '25

Well, there's no fun in only caring about the final rankings. Half the fun is in the ride.

29

u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell Nov 03 '25

Your opinion on Oregon is going to heavily depend on if you believe that Penn State was a good team when they played, and Oregon just broke them.

Some feel that Penn State probably always sucked, so the Oregon win is unimpressive, while others feel that Penn State was a genuine top 5 team during that matchup that Oregon broke. I think it’s somewhere in the middle TBH

4

u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy Alabama Crimson Tide Nov 03 '25

Well, they didn't look that impressive against their cupcakes to be honest. I'd wager that if they played literally anyone with a pulse non con, they'd likely have a loss before they even got to Oregon. And its not like they just had bad luck and scheduled a team that fell off either. Straight baby shit scheduling.

2

u/bruggibuster Oregon Ducks Nov 03 '25

Cupcakes: Montana State, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, NW and Rutgers all blowouts. Wisconsin was closer than it should have been, but we were also playing is extremely rainy and windy conditions and our starting QB missed all but the first minute of the second half.

2

u/WhoHasMyPocketPussy Alabama Crimson Tide Nov 03 '25

Apologies, my comment was in reference to Penn State. While I have some doubts about Oregon, their OOC isn't a concern for me. OKST has been and most likely was still a solid team when that game was scheduled.

I was more commenting on the statement that "Oregon just broke them"

I get the argument for Ole Miss and BYU but if your argument is that Oregon hasn’t played anyone, that also has to apply to Texas Tech, who has the worse loss of the two.

Edit: totally forgot about Utah. That does give Tech a better win. I still like Oregon above them as a whole but that’s a fair argument the other way.

2

u/tmart12 Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 03 '25

Texas Tech has a dominant win over Utah.

IMO Oregon and Texas Tech have similar resumes. Texas Tech won their hard game but lost to a middling opponent. Oregon lost their hard game but has won against all the inferior games.

It's a theoretical discussion of what is preferred.

They're neck and neck across metrics like SOR and Resume SP+ because they've been very similar. IMO I like Texas Tech better now as Oregon's resume is inflated in analytics by the Penn St game.

3

u/velociraptorfarmer Iowa State Cyclones • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 03 '25

Not to mention Tech's lone loss is on the road against 6-3 Arizona State while their starting QB was out.

2

u/Penguin_dingdong Utah Utes Nov 04 '25

It was a good win, but slightly deceptive score. That game was 13-10 halfway through the 4th quarter. Wheels just fell off once they finally got down by 2 possessions mid 4th

1

u/tmart12 Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Nov 04 '25

Fair enough. It was a 98th percentile game per FEI, which is what I often like to look at. Utah is proving to be a good team regardless, much better win than Penn St.
