Casual Ohio St fans should be ashamed

Over 5,000 hate filled comments have showed up on Ohio St kicker Jayden Fielding’s social media since last night. Fanbase should be ashamed they’re harassing one of their own, it isn’t good for the player, team, or sport. No excuse for it, touch grass. Hope the fanbase can lift up this young man in time for their next game instead of tearing him down even more.

The fact that they've had to run ads this year telling gamblers not to send players death threats is...quite sad.

The fact that they could easily be traced and aren’t it even sadder. Start making an example out of keyboard warriors making these threats.

The Premier League does it all the time, even getting people from like Indonesia arrested for making racist social media comments

Racist comments are legal in the US. It’s still the first amendment. But they absolutely could go after them for threats

Wow that's great, good for them. I'd love to see that happen in the US.

They're powerless to help, but not to punish.

I mean, they pick fights with college athletes and harass brown people! Is that not enough for you? Are you not satisfied?

Hey now! They also help disappear people to illegal prisons overseas

Those aren’t police, just super racist citizens

Who do you think is providing them escorts and cover? Cops are letting them stage in their areas and arresting protestors everywhere. If you don't think they're openly aligned and supporting them, you're blind.

That are also scared to identify or show their faces because they know damn well what they are doing is wrong.

It's kinda funny that you would post this in a thread about a college sports player receiving death threats. They didn't start wearing masks til people started posting their pictures on social media.

Yeah, my team has a kicker issue. Watching the game you wince, then remind yourself that these are basically still kids for the most part. One of my kids is in college and that dork almost got on the wrong bus to come home. His friend missed a flight because the dumbass decided to stay up all night and party before his 6 am flight be sure he was afraid he wouldn’t wake from his alarm. They make mistakes.

No, you can't do that. Tyrants don't deserve death threats. Only kids playing a game deserve death threats.

When I advocate for harsher punishments against death threats etc, some redditors inevitably give some all-or-nothing like “WhAt sHoUlD wE Do, cArPeT BoMb tHe MiDdLe eAsT” in response to things like the South Park guys getting death threats over the Muhammad episode because it was “thousands of threats, not just a few hundred.” Like bro, start with a few dozen extremely harsh sentences, then work your way up to a few hundred and watch how making an example outta them actually brings about change instead of throwing your hands up and saying, welp, I guess we let the terrorists win again!!

They should. If it's on social media find the person. And handle business. It's unacceptable.

I can only think of two ways to remedy the situation: An overall cultural shift in sports fandom in the US and/or prosecuting those who send death threats. I unfortunately don't see the former happening anytime soon. That costs money and resources that don't yield monetary value. People would much rather see the book thrown at those people instead.

This. They need to step up their game. Find these people.

Well it turns out that actual death threats aren’t usually actually made, but players and the media like to exaggerate run of the mill shittalk.

This is kind of true. Explicit death threats are different than insults which still go far too far.
