Casual Ohio St fans should be ashamed

Over 5,000 hate filled comments have showed up on Ohio St kicker Jayden Fielding’s social media since last night. Fanbase should be ashamed they’re harassing one of their own, it isn’t good for the player, team, or sport. No excuse for it, touch grass. Hope the fanbase can lift up this young man in time for their next game instead of tearing him down even more.

My father in law is ryan day's neighbor. They are separated by a pond. The last time we visited them, they told us how crazy it was last year when they lost to Michigan. 24/7 armed security. Put up a huge tower with infrared. The whole neighborhood was on surveillance but around their area the security got tighter. All because Ohio state fans were sending death threats to Day and his family

Iv been seeing a lot of fans now thinking that since Day is fairly youngish we will have 20+ more years of success with him now that we have his championship and his youth. What you just said pretty much solidifies my theory that he will retire a lot sooner than people think. Constant security, harassment and just this life in general will wear him down to retire/separate from OSU a lot sooner than the fanbase realizes. My theory at least.

Yeah probably. Not even mentioning the fact that the big wins are hard to pin down for a long time. Hell, look at Dabo Swinney and Clemson. He started there relatively young. He's aged like a friggin U.S. President. People point to NIL and portal stuff as the reason they've slipped, but the other aspect of it is that he might just be tired. It's a hell of a commitment. He has earned a lot of goodwill, but as we see with these fans, that stuff doesn't last as long as it used to. All it takes is hiring a couple of assistants that flop, and a decade of winning culture suddenly doesn't mean shit.

The days of Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden... that shit is gone. Those guys were able to hold a 30-year grip on a school because they didn't have to deal with as much public scrutiny. Fans were far more willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Media members knew that they couldn't ask certain questions. Players knew that they had to toe the line and wait their turn if they wanted the chance to play.

Kirk Ferentz is the last of the Mohicans. And it's my humble opinion that he'd have been fired years ago if he'd won a natty or two in the first decade he was there. If the Hawkeyes has made it to the mountaintop, they wouldn't have wanted to come back down to where they are now.

All valid points. As you said the landscape has changed and fanbases and those in power have warped mindsets with too many unreasonable expectations.

The job of a head coach at these huge universities has in a way gotten easier not harder. Massive budgets, larger recruiting staff, and general managers running the NIL side of things. Head coaches no longer have to do it all. They can focus more on coaching duties now.
