I honestly wonder what that guys up to. I hope he’s alright, even though I don’t miss his contributions to this subreddit.

He's biding his time. This sub doesn't seem to realize that he doesn't give a shit about the hatred for him. The second FSU does something big, he'll return again like nothing happened and bask in the filth y'all throw his way.

35

u/BrodentofUsualSize Florida Gators • Colorado State Rams Sep 02 '26

Why would he disappear if he didn’t care?

54

u/thejawa Florida State • Air Force Sep 02 '26

Because it's funnier this way. The second FSU beat Bama last year he returned to doing the same thing he'd always done.

Gotcha, I guess I don’t get it since he deleted his account with like 400k karma.

If I had a friend that disconnected when their team was bad and was utterly insufferable when they were good, I would file that under a different folder.

I can appreciate a good troll.

But PFB wasn't a true troll. The moment FSU fell off he vanished. Reappeared after FSU beat Bama and looked like they might be back, then disappeared the second it was clear that wasn't the case. That's not being a troll, that's being a fairweather bitch.

Also, the fact he had a friend or friends on the mod team to greenlight all his posts when any other user would have had them deleted rubs me the wrong way as well.

Step 1: hire someone who puts immediate success over building a lasting program

Step 2: win marginally more than you’re used to, initially.

Step 3: hype.

Step 4: foundation crumbles like everyone knew it would

I was all over this sub saying he's gone soon as Shadeur and Travis are gone. My theory was he’s going to utilize their high skill to generate enough hype to get back to Florida where he's from and coach somewhere like Florida State. I'm very surprised he's still at Colorado.

Going off of memory here, but I don't think Colorado under Sanders has beaten a single ranked team. And they've only beaten a few teams with so much as a winning record. Their 9 win seasons was incredibly weak and BYU shit canned them at the end of it for good reason.

1

u/Constant-Skill-7133 Sep 03 '26

That is also true.  He went crazy hard on transfers.  Even if that works, it's not something you are going to be able to replicate every year.  It's like NFL teams and building through free agency.

12

u/lookieherehere Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 02 '26

I think a lot of big schools saw the clown show he made Colorado into and said no thanks. He is the black lane kiffin without the results. If Colorado was smart they should go for Jason eck but now they will be fighting a lot of teams for him.

5

u/Flx_Httr29 Wisconsin • College of the Canyons Sep 03 '26

The problem I see is that I think Fickell will buy himself another year on this weak schedule and then Eck will be somewhere else already

1

u/Vegetable-Leather-64 Sep 03 '26

I think it all depends on the buy out with luke unless he completely does something we don't expect. The weak schedule helps but can hurt him. If he doesn't blow away expectations. The biggest thing with them is how will the offense look? He needs his qb to stay healthy and look like a current type of offense imo

1

u/Flx_Httr29 Wisconsin • College of the Canyons Sep 03 '26

He's successfully lowered the bar that a season that would've gotten past coaches fired(7-5) will get him another year as long as one of these 7 is against Iowa or Minnesota. And then we'll get a few more seasons like that until he finally screws one up again, we go 4-8 and he gets canned

46

u/srs_house Swaggerbilt Sep 02 '26

Step 2: win marginally more than you’re used to, initially.

Everyone pointed out the huge improvement over 2022's 1-11 team, and yes, Karl Dorrell is a terrible coach.

But that schedule was absolutely brutal.

13-2 TCU

10-3 Air Force

9-4 Minnesota

9-4 UCLA

5-7 Arizona

4-8 Cal (only win)

10-3 Oregon State

1-9 ASU

10-3 Oregon

11-3 USC

11-2 Washington

10-4 Utah

There were three decently winnable games in there for a program that, between 2006-2025, has had 2 seasons with 7 or more wins.

For comparison, in 2023 Deion faced: 5-7 TCU (W), 5-7 Nebraska (W), 5-7 CSU (W), 12-2 Oregon, 8-5 USC, 3-9 ASU (W), 3-9 Stanford, 8-5 UCLA, 10-3 Arizona, 5-7 Wazzu, 8-5 Utah.

In 2024: 14-2 FCS NDSU (W), 7-6 Nebraska, 8-5 CSU (W), 8-5 Baylor (W), 4-8 UCF (W), 9-4 KState, 4-8 Arizona (W), 5-7 Cincy (W), 8-5 Texas Tech (W), 5-7 Utah (W), 5-7 Kansas, 3-9 OKST (W), bowl game: 11-2 BYU

And 2025: 9-4 GT, 7-6 Delaware (W), 10-3 Houston, 4-8 Wyoming (W), 12-2 BYU, 9-4 TCU, 8-4 Iowa State (W), 11-2 Utah, 9-4 Arizona, 4-8 WVU, 8-5 ASU, 6-6 KState.

So even in a season with a Heisman winner, they only had 2 wins over FBS teams with a winning record - and those would've been the 10th worst teams, by record, on that 2022 schedule.

u/Inevitable_Catch_566 Nebraska Cornhuskers Sep 03 '26

19

u/Middle-King Colorado Buffaloes Sep 02 '26

But wins are only part of the equation. After Dorrell’s disastrous last season a lot of big donors were going to pull funding from the athletic department.

32

u/srs_house Swaggerbilt Sep 02 '26

Is paying Deion $10M and funneling money to his brands and kids, in exchange for going 16-21, the solution to that?

The guy who made the disastrous Dorrell hire is the same one those donors trusted with hiring Deion. And yes, Dorrell was a terrible hire - he got fired at his last HC position, and Vandy fired him after just 1 year as OC.

23

u/Middle-King Colorado Buffaloes Sep 02 '26

Look I’m not saying Deion is a good coach I’m just explaining that financially speaking (yes even including the $10M salary) the program is better off now than after Dorrell

We've gotten more national exposure in the past 3 seasons than in the prior 30 years combined. The poster who said that the W/Ls were only part of the equation was right...our whole AD seemed to be on the verge of total implosion ($$$) before Sanders came to Boulder.

The national exposure has translated to record applications to the university as well. The whole university and city of Boulder have benefited from having him here.

2

u/Dijohn17 NC State Wolfpack • Howard Bison Sep 03 '26

Yes actually. When you're at rock bottom you just need something positive. Deion created momentum for the program, got donors inspired, got students inspired to go to games, increased interest from recruits. Now if Deion leaves or gets fired they have something to build off of, as opposed to just staying dead with no donor or alumni interest

7

u/arb0531 Sep 03 '26

To be fair, last year he dealt with major personal health issues and beat cancer, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Like facilities had to set up a dedicated porta potty on the field at Folsom for him because of he had his bladder removed.

I don’t think we will be good this year, but right now Colorado’s 2027 class is ranked 30th nationally, so he’s still doing a decent job bringing in talent.

2

u/onrocketfalls Florida Gators • Sickos Sep 03 '26

Damn. My dad had to have his bladder removed due to cancer and suddenly Deion is much more relatable to me.

7

u/arb0531 Sep 03 '26

Yeah regardless of how you think of Deion as a person, dealing with that type of adversity in the public eye is rough. Fortunately he beat the cancer and looks to be a lot healthier and happier this year. Hopefully that translates to additional on field success for him and the team.

5

u/GridironFilmJunkie Sacramento State • Great West Sep 03 '26

Ironically Kansas football is doing this exact run at the same exact time. My whole family loves Kansas athletics,  and even they have begun to see the end of Lance if they aren’t bowl eligible at minimum. Losing every close game you play during the 4th quarter means nothing. 2-10 or 1-11 is functionally identical to 5-7. It’s unacceptable when you’re spending nearly $100 million a season on the entire football program including their facilities at the current spending threshold. You could spend 1/5th of that and get identical results.

Just winning more than 3 games is no longer acceptable.

I think he has the potential to recruit well, but he’s simply not interested in putting in the work. The quick rebuild through the transfer portal was going to be okay for 1-2 years at best. He really needed to pivot towards recruiting going into the second year.

19

u/srs_house Swaggerbilt Sep 02 '26

Has he still refused to do a single home visit on the recruiting trail? And when your approach to OL struggles isn't to coach up your players but to just go import more from the portal, it doesn't bode well for you player development.

I think Lewis can be a good QB for them. I even like the new OC. But as long as Deion is in charge of things like time management, I doubt they're going to win too many close games going forward.

u/jayjude Notre Dame • Georgia State Sep 02 '26

I think if Lewis shows any promise as QB this year he's gone. OSU and USC are going to need QBs next year and I promise you they'll pay more than Colorado

It’s not a gain. More of a black hole.

It’s not financially making sense. They’re in deficit. Sure, we talked about Colorado for a few years and people watched their games but I think that’s all kinda faded. Now the only rhetoric about them is how it didn’t work and “when is Deion gone” posts.

The juice isn’t worth the squeeze anymore. They took a swing and it wasn’t a home run.. also wasn’t really a strike out. They hit a single and then got thrown out at 2nd attempting to steal.

With that said, it doesn’t make sense to fire him. They’re not going to be any better. So I guess this is where they sit until Deion gets sick of it and quits.

u/Lane8323 Sam Houston Bearkats • Texas Longhorns Sep 03 '26

At Jackson State he was just able to get better players than pretty much any other hbcu could. Once he actually had to be able to develop players to compete with the top programs he was exposed as a mediocre coach. The 9 win season seems like an anomaly now. It doesn’t even seem it’s gotten as bad as it could. This year could be rough.

16

u/gettinNOIZY Sep 02 '26

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Colorado hasn’t been consistent winners since the 90s.

9

u/mjxxyy8 Michigan Wolverines Sep 02 '26

7

u/fcocyclone Iowa State Cyclones • Marching Band Sep 02 '26

So much was made of him being a huge improvement over the 1-11 team the year before when they went 4-8 in year 1, ignoring that they had plenty of 4-5 win seasons over the prior decade and a 10 win season as recently as 2016, and that 4-8 was still 1-8 in conference

They got a lot of overhype off of TCU and Nebraska wins that in hindsight weren't nearly as big of a deal as people were making them

2

u/gettinNOIZY Sep 02 '26

Fair enough. I just don’t usually see 2 winning seasons sandwiched in between losing ones as being consistent.

I hated Prime Time when he was a player, and I'm meh on Coach Prime, but no, he is not on the hot seat, not yet. Outside of 2016, CU was a bottom dweller the entire time they were in the PAC, and Folsom has been an absolute morgue in the 15 years leading up to his hire. Since that hire though, Folsom has been full, admissions applications are up, and the Boulder business community is thriving. Outside of living rent free in some cornhusker fans' heads, no one thought twice about CU football since the mid 2000s. That the national media--and reddit--are still talking about CU in year 4 after his hire is proof that what he's done has been successful, even if the results on the field aren't stellar.

Last year was disappointing and took some of the shine off, but the Buff fan base is pretty used to bad seasons at this point. The general consensus for this season is that the offense should be good but the defense continues to be questionable, and if Deion can get CU to a bowl game, it will be a successful year. If they win 2-3 games and Folsom revers back to half full though, his seat will heat up next season.

u/BuffsBourbon Colorado Buffaloes • Big 8 Sep 02 '26

13-15 weren’t great, but to call it a morgue the last 15 years is wildly revisionist.

Top number is CU, bottom number is Washington. And from 11-25, with exception of 13-15, they were in the top 25 of stadium capacity in P5/4 each year.

Deion’s head coaching career is aging like milk. It was never about his ability as a coach. His usefulness was to use his popularity to get attention on his son and himself. He should’ve left for health reasons as soon as Travis and Shaduer went to the league. Irresponsible to pocket colorados money with what he’s doing to the program. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he’s going to leave the buffaloes worse than he got them

Prime ain't a good coach

He's not a program builder

He only got involved in coaching because nobody else would put up with his kids and he knew if either of them had any shot of getting to play professionally, he had to be the one controlling the narrative

1

u/Emergency-Watch5157 Sep 03 '26

Bad news if true for Prime

1

u/Prestigious-Elk6959 Sep 03 '26

I wish we could have honest conversations about Prime at CU. He has had fucked up growing pains but he's done a lot with some bare ass cupboards. Imo his honeymoon phase ended year 1, year 2 was a slight outlier and this past year he had higher expectations and didn't live up to it. But they also have a ton of new funding and energy they didn't have the past few seasons. Imo he brings them more than they gave him and that alone will probably get him way more time than many realize. Especially considering this year he's assembled a very good staff built off some good hires last year.

-1

u/JLand24 Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 02 '26

I just have to roll my eyes at articles like this. It’s bad enough when it’s someone like Deboer they write something similar about. But, Prime inherited a program that has been irrelevant for 30 years and took them to a tie for first in the B12 in year 2, has a down year, now all of a sudden “needs to win now”. He’s given that program more success in 3 years than their entire student body has seen in their lives.

14

u/voodoohounds Nebraska Cornhuskers Sep 02 '26

He’s making 10 million a year and not getting 10 million a year results. If they finish with 3 or 4 wins again this year, that will have been the result for 3 out of the 4 seasons with Deion. That’s not substantially better than they were in the decade plus leading up to Deion. If that’s the case, he is not creating a foundation to build upon. CU is not getting a cut of Deion’s endorsement revenue. And you don’t look good by association when your association consists of losing football.

But win 6 games, get to a bowl, and he can carry on.

u/jayjude Notre Dame • Georgia State Sep 02 '26

You do know that Sanders doesn't even have Colorados best season of the last 10 years right? In a comically better Pac-12 than the Big 12 in 2016 Colorado played in the Pac-12 title game

→ More replies (6)

10

u/RheagarTargaryen Michigan State Spartans Sep 02 '26

He needs to prove that he has a sustainable model though. He had a generational player in Travis Hunter for those 2 years and he had his kid playing QB. Hunter and Sanders are gone and he has to show that he can still win football games without them.

The big boys have all caught up to the NIL and transfer portal era and have completely nullified his recruiting advantage. CU risks sputtering out and being in a position where they’re going nowhere fast if he isn’t able to build on the success of the 2024 season. Another bad year this year and they’ll be heading in the wrong direction with no clear path to get back to the level they were at in 2024.

7

u/puzzical Boise State • Notre Dame Sep 02 '26

Prime's problem is he hasn't raised the floor or ceiling of the program. In the 10 seasons before Prime Colorado won at least 4 games in 8 of them. He failed to hit that mark in year 3 so that should be quite concerning to Colorado fans. Yeah Prime gave them their second best season as far as wins go in the last decade but he also gave them their second worst season as far wins go in the last decade.
