Rutgers being bad makes it hard to contextualize how big of an upset this was. UMass projected to be one of, if not the worst team in CFB and won on the road by 18 as 29.5 point dogs
And you could say "well COVID doesn't count" but those three games we did play featured probably the worst football team that has been fielded in 75 years
One of the biggest upsets in FBS history for sure.
Absolutely ridiculous loss for a P2 team and equally ridiculous win for a UMass program that knows almost no success at this level of play (power conference opponents). It wasn't like they scraped by either, UMass outclassed them in every phase of the game.
This is like Michigan vs Appalachian State if Appalachian State only played their backups and Michigan brought JJ McCarthy back to play QB, then spent the entire game telling everyone how they played the first college football game in history
Somehow PSU is the second winner here because we lost some big recruits to Rutgers cause they had the money now they’ve shown they aren’t serious even if they pay I don’t think players want to lose to UMASS
Let's also remember this is Schiano Rutgers, not the absolute embarrassment they were for their first decade in the B1G. We'll see what the rest of the season holds for them, but the past few years they've been a borderline bowl team.

UMass is currently the #2 scoring offense and #7 scoring defense in the country.
Rutgers, you're going back to half-share for this.
Happy 20th season anniversary, BTN!
