I couldn’t see the whole convo between Taylor and Whitt, but he very clearly said before he walked away “I don’t know what to say.”

He knows it was over and I don’t think he feels good about it

Considering his ranked B1G team functionally lost to a MAC team, that doesn't surprise me. He's thinking about what he needs to fix.

Yeah, he is starting practice with a meeting establishing with the players that was a loss. Honestly lossing might been better. I can see players accepting this and just being relief they won and say them almost lossing was the fluke.

Unless UM just played their worst football game since app state out of the blu this season is gona be a long one.

I would have 100% preferred a loss. We did not play well enough to win

Disgusting to see fans rushing the field

Disgusting to see Underwood peacocking around after that abysmal performance

Disgusting to see WMU jobbed

611

u/VancouverStickerCo Oregon Ducks • Portland State Vikings Sep 06 '26

Wittingham is known as a pretty straight shooter, and owns his shit when he steps in it. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the way he does the job.

It might piss off some boosters, but he’s exactly what a program like Michigan needs. Transparent objective honesty, and we’re about to get heaps of it from that program.

197

u/Swazi Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

Hope he makes the offenses life hell this week

80

u/VancouverStickerCo Oregon Ducks • Portland State Vikings Sep 06 '26

That team on the field looked nothing like Utah did when he was constantly wrecking seasons on the PAC.

I have full faith he’s gonna fix a lot of what’s broken.

62

u/Swazi Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

I have faith but it was pretty depressing seeing that OL not getting a whole lot of push up front against a smaller line in Western.

Did Sherrone really fuck up the program this bad that a full spring and fall camp with Kyle damn Whittingham isn’t enough?

33

u/Aquaman33 North Carolina • Carolina… Sep 06 '26

A brand new coach means the program takes some time to adjust 100% of the time in the transfer era. He still needs to (with his coaches) change habits they learned from very different people at very malleable teen ages to what he wants.

It's why I still have misguided belichick hope even though I hate his ass and am a Brady truther (who I hate but less)

61

u/gunpowderjunky Southern Illinois Salukis Sep 06 '26

Can you forfeit a game after it has been played? I mean they could try but I don't think that's a thing.

57

u/Dead_Baby_Kicker Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 06 '26

If the AD comes out and says they forfeit and will record the game as a loss, it would probably happen.

And the B1G commissioner can void games at his discretion if I am not mistaken.

50

u/OwlOdyssey Michigan • Nottingham Sep 06 '26

If the AD comes out and says they forfeit and will record the game as a loss, it would probably happen.

Our AD is a massive piece of shit who has defended some serious shit. We're lucky he's going, but he should have been fired ages ago (without the paycheck and buyout to boot). I genuinely don't think I can pick which atrocity is the worst because they're all god awful. He's true scum.

All that said, he'd never vacate the win. We may have a Mormon on the field, but Satan is in the office. He's likely celebrating this and staunchly defending the decision to give the extra second.

That was one of the worst game by a Michigan QB I've ever seen. Players can have bad games, I get it, but he is doing the same things he did all of last year. He didn't improve even a single percent. Hopefully the coaches have the balls to at least give Carr a chance, but he is a true fresh, so can't expect much there either

10

u/nannulators Michigan Wolverines • Wisconsin Badgers Sep 06 '26

He was great in that scripted drive and then immediately reverted to playing exactly how everyone expected him to play based on last year.

If Tommy Carr isn't taking QB1 reps in practice this week, then the coaching staff has lost it (if they ever had it)

10

u/rhino429 Sep 06 '26

I will gladly never cheer for Michigan being a spartan, just like I would never expect a Wolverine to cheer for the Spartans. But the entire second half I was sitting there in the recliner that they needed to put Tommy Carr in there to see what he could do, and they never did. I get they pay underwood the big bucks but my god. He just wasn’t good tonight. At all.

I turned the game off and switched over to LSU after the first replay because it clearly hit 0. Then they showed the replay with Michigan winning in the LSU game and I thought I was being pranked or that I was going crazy. “I just watched the game. It didn’t end that way? Am I getting dementia? Is this the opposite of Déjà vu? Am I sober? wtf is going on?” It was genuinely confusing and scary lol. I thought I might have gotten transferred to the wrong dimension for a second. It had never occurred to me that they would possibly add another second. My first concern wasn’t about how Michigan won, it was about how reality swapped for me.

Respect the honesty, the fans storming the field is disgraceful

194

In their defense, with how the team looked, this might be their only chance this year to do it. "Yay, we beat a 27 point underdog on a last second play that was (rather obviously) after the last second."

80

u/djsuperfly Sep 06 '26

In fairness, there's not necessarily supposed to be a "chance" every single year to do a field storming. (And quite frankly, if you choose to go to a school with a blue-blood football program, you should probably realize that you'll NEVER get to do it.)

24

u/joeychestnutsrectum Oregon State Beavers Sep 06 '26

Ref pay is all over the place depending on conference but no conference pays enough for it to be a full time job unfortunately. It needs to be.

15

u/StoicFable Oregon State Beavers Sep 06 '26

On top of that, we need more transparency in what the refs are saying during these types of close calls or reviews. When there is no review, or no justification for it, it leads to a lot of fans getting pissed and blaming them for rigging. Which, in some cases you just cannot blame them for thinking that way.

I'd gain a lot of respect for Whittingham if he asked the NCAA to overturn this result.

That was an L. We all fucking know it was an L. I know the players were excited, the fans were excited, but that was a historic win for Western, that they 100% deserved, and frankly the refs missed a lot of other shit from a very undisciplined Michigan squad.

Western also has all of their goals in front of them, including a CFBP berth, so this isn't academic.

u/Millies_ButtersMilk Michigan Wolverines Sep 06 '26

Frl. There wasn’t any time left on the clock there just wasn’t so idk how you can say we won this game. This was stolen from a team who straight up earned it by putting belt to ass all game so yeah this should be overturned.

I guess we are lucky it happened to WMU because if this happened to a bigger university with a law school, we likely would have seen the first lawsuits to overturn a game filed before midnight.

Is it possible? I’m honestly curious. If the head coach verbally admits they lost the game; the clock shows the game was over; is there a process by which the game can be overturned?

I seriously think there's a non zero chance the game results get reversed. Not a great chance but it's possible.

9

u/Mr-Cantaloupe Michigan State Spartans Sep 06 '26

Agreed. This is the one time I’ve ever watched a controversial ending and actually imagined a scenario where the result gets over turned.

NBC and the broadcast did a great job showing the play and continuing to show the play afterwards. Terry mentioning that the clock we were seeing was synced to the stadium clock.

I unfortunately think the most likely explanation will be that there is a secret clock only New York sees. It’s bullshit reasoning but I really think that’s going to be what happens.

u/Free_Possession_4482 Ohio State • Cincinnati Sep 06 '26
