If Miami doesn’t win the ACC this season, I’m not sure they ever will

Then he should have a Bill & Mary flair but not those 2.

Having watched the NC State game, I don't think that'd be wildly chaotic. Miami's the frontrunner right now imo, but i wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see Virginia win it

Don't underestimate Franklin and Virginia State. They may not win it outright, but are well positioned to be 2026's agent of chaos.

It's still insane to think a team that played in the national champion game wasn't even in their conference championship game.

3 out of the 4 national championship game participants in the 12 team playoff didn’t play in a championship game

It happened in 2024 as well though.

unfortunately for them they are perfectly on pace to be ranked #2 overall against a like 6-4 mid pitt team that will explode them for no good reason before going back to mediocrity

Did you see the game this weekend? 6-4 is not on the menu. Have some hope while there are no indications that things aren’t pointing to a title.

Our rivalry is hilarious. we beat you when you guys have hope and we have none, you beat us when we have hope and you guys have none.

Whoa buddy, Miami has refused to win a conference championship out of respect for ND - if the Fighting Irish can’t win one, Miami refuses to do so in solidarity. That’s why the Canes have allowed everyone else play in the ACCCG the last 20 years.

We’re still protesting the move from the big east

Oh, we'll probably be clean and firing on all cylinders for that one, same might be true for you big dog. Look up out 1951 match up you'll be surprised at what we did to you for a 1951 American football team. Specifically look for the game film on YouTube.

If Jennings and the team can play mistake free football, they might be able to play with anyone else. I just need to see it before I can believe it.

Totally fair assessment. If we can clean up mistakes, we should absolutely be in contention given the yards we put up and pretty good defensive game given the turnovers. If we don’t though, we’ll go 8-4 again.

Jennings and mistake free football is something I’ve been saying since the start of last year. I’m not sure he’s capable of it.

Louisville and SMU enter the chat

I'd been thinking over the last couple days who could be a second ACC playoff team if Miami finally wins it, and I think one week in I've come to the conclusion that this is a one bid league

2

u/WorkerMotor9174 California Golden Bears Sep 08 '26

The only way it is a 2 bid league is if another team goes 11-1 and has a close loss in the title game. Or they win and Miami sneaks in at large.

u/MoosilaukeFlyer Miami Hurricanes • Endicott Gulls Sep 08 '26

Virginia is quite experienced and looks good. I think they, Louisville, or SMU can sneak in depending on how things shake out.

u/discofrislanders Fairfield • St. John's (NY) Sep 08 '26

Obviously it's very early but

Virginia's schedule is a double edged sword, where yes, it's pretty easy in terms of avoiding everyone but SMU (ND included), but they could well find themselves in a situation like BYU last year where, even if they go 11-1, a CCG loss would knock them out due to lack of quality wins (particularly if that loss is to SMU).

Louisville with a loss already against another contender doesn't have much margin for error.

SMU seemed too stupid last night but that could just be because it's the first game and was being played under very weird circumstances.

The race for 2nd is very fascinating though

Virginia and Louisville are two legit good teams. I agree that we're a favorite, but the ACC is not completely barren of talent.

The dropoff after Miami for the ACC is just unbelievable. Louisville has got that dog in them, but hot damn it's just a wasteland otherwise. Perhaps the best team in the country, going to spend the whole year bitch slapping the conference around.

Hold your horses bud. Logged on to say that Miami choking late in the season against an ACC opponent became a tradition

Yeah this guy must be new to Miami football.

3

u/discofrislanders Fairfield • St. John's (NY) Sep 08 '26

Virginia has an incredibly easy schedule in terms of avoiding Miami, Louisville, Pitt, and GT

6

u/UncleMalcolm Virginia Cavaliers • Orange Bowl Sep 08 '26

At least we have to play one of the preseason consensus top 3, at SMU in October. Miami doesn’t play UVa, SMU, or Louisville, and gets FSU, VT, Pitt, and Duke all at home. They have to go to Clemson which might still be hairy from a talent standpoint, and we’re not really sure what Carolina is yet either…but there’s really no excuse for Miami to not at least get to Charlotte this year.

2

u/discofrislanders Fairfield • St. John's (NY) Sep 08 '26

The double edged sword I saw was you avoiding all the top teams, but then if you end up like BYU last year as 11-2 where one of the 2 losses is the CCG, you may be in trouble

2

u/UncleMalcolm Virginia Cavaliers • Orange Bowl Sep 08 '26

100%. Very solid chance that 11-2 isn’t good enough without an ACC title. Would need at least one team on the schedule to be unexpectedly good, like VT/NCSU/Duke/Wake ends up being a 9/10 win team while we keep it close with SMU and Miami in a theoretical title game.

Same deal for Miami: if they don’t win that ND game, they might need to win the conference because there’s a very solid chance they don’t have a ranked win at 11-2 or certainly 10-2.

u/Electromotivation James Madison Dukes Sep 08 '26

They will lose one to a pretty good team but instead of giving credit to that team everyone will just use it to say Miami sucks.
