How does FSU have a receiver that’s 7 inches taller than his defender and only target him 4 times during the game?

Because we got Ashton Daniels as our QB in the offseason instead of Lagway or Colandrea, the other guys we brought in for visits.

DJ “5 interception” Lagway?

I’m glad we have him over Daniels NGL, Lagway will throw a pick then throw a 25 yard perfect dart. Lagway is playing roulette while Daniels is eating glue

Lagway shows flashes of "he could be good" in between being not good.

Daniels never gives you the impression he could ever be good.

Ah the Anthony Richardson special

u/QuitWhinging Florida Gators • Paper Bag Sep 08 '26

Breaks three tackles, hurdles two defenders, and outruns the entire secondary on his way to a 90-yard rush

Throws pick in the endzone

Well it’s all about consistency.

Never seen anybody be so optimistic in Lagway. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure I guess

Tbf he’s not the first QB to improve significantly after spending time under Spav’s development.

Bit early to say Lagway has improved though, given that his stats from the one game are worse than his previous averages.

seriously. he looked like exactly the same guy to me this weekend

Yep, didn’t see anything new, flashes of some great throws followed by absolute bone headed mistakes like the throw behind the receiver on the 2 pt

u/onrocketfalls Florida Gators • Sickos Sep 08 '26

He did have what appeared to be a pretty legit ankle injury, fwiw. Wasn't able to watch most of the game but I saw just before halftime, he had two linemen helping him limp to the locker room.

3

u/onrocketfalls Florida Gators • Sickos Sep 08 '26

And he wouldn't be the first (or second, or third) QB to improve after leaving UF

1

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears Sep 08 '26

Speaking of leaving Florida and subsequently thriving under Spav, I wonder how Will Grier's doing.

u/onrocketfalls Florida Gators • Sickos Sep 08 '26

I don't know if I can actually trust Google anymore, but it says he's on the Cowboys roster, which is a pleasant surprise

2

u/wtfElvis Florida Gators Sep 08 '26

Yup. That was the hardest part to watch. For every 3-5 horrible throws he’d throw one where you are like “no one else could’ve made that throw”

It just wasn’t worth it

u/IdealSeating Florida State Seminoles Sep 08 '26

Lagway is a lot better than Daniels and is at least willing to push the ball downfield, unlike Daniels who plays scared

4+1 interceptions, be respectful of Jayden, OK?

Acting like they wouldn’t have similar results with DJ Lagway is such cope

2

u/anarchyisutopia Florida Gators Sep 08 '26

TBF, he did play pretty well in Tallahassee. It was every else that he had an issue.

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears Sep 08 '26

Credit where it’s due, Lagway’s out there making some incredible throws against a pretty good DJ DJ Durkin defense, despite Lagway being on a bum leg for the last 3.5 quarters of the game.

Dude’s got ice in his veins.

14

u/MuttleyLaughGoesHere Florida Gators Sep 08 '26

Wait...Lagway got an injury...where's my shocked Pikachu meme?

2

u/Nytfire333 Florida Gators • USF Bulls Sep 08 '26

Ice in his Veins when he threw the scared pass behind the receiver to cost yall the game on the 2pt is quite a take. I’ve met the kid and wish him nothing but the best but he’s always hurt and just don’t have it

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears Sep 08 '26

Scared pass is one way to put it, but given that Auburn's LB was basically already there, I'm not sure any pass there was going to get into the endzone.

Aside from that, I was thinking more of the prior three quarters than that one play. Dude had multiple clutch plays on fourth down situations.

How bad has FSU fallen that you are gazing longingly at pictures of former Gators QBs that we moved on from

1

u/Professional-Chip454 /r/CFB Sep 08 '26

As a gator, this thread is heartwarming. Love seeing them wish they had our scraps lol

1

u/IdealSeating Florida State Seminoles Sep 08 '26

Pretty far. We have an extremely talented 6’6 receiver and we went a got him a QB who is afraid to throw the ball more than 5 yards.

Lagway isn’t good, but he’d at least be willing to sling it and let Duce make plays. May not win a lot of games but it’d more fun to watch than last night lol

4

u/Strikesuit Virginia Cavaliers Sep 08 '26

Colandrea would have been a much better fit.

2

u/JohnPaulDavyJones Texas A&M Aggies • Baylor Bears Sep 08 '26

Especially because y’all apparently chose Daniels over Lagway.

I’m sure Baylor got some kind of. hometown/legacy discount for Lagway’s services, but there’s no way he takes that big of a cut unless other teams like FSU passed on the chance to pay him more.

4

u/IdealSeating Florida State Seminoles Sep 08 '26

We lowballed him NIL wise because Norvell wanted to go cheap at QB and way underestimated the QB market. He turned us down because we didn’t give him an offer even close to what he’s worth

3

u/jthomas694 South Carolina • Ohio State Sep 08 '26

Having watched all three of those guys last week I think yall gotta find a whole new pool of QBs to be recruiting from

10

u/FunkoPopDisneyAdult Nebraska Cornhuskers Sep 08 '26

Colandrea looked good in his game? There were quite a few drops in the first half but he is definitely an upgrade over Raiola from my week 1 overreaction

u/deadzip10 Texas A&M Aggies • TCU Horned Frogs Sep 08 '26

In fairness, after watching Lagway the other day, I’ll give you that you probably rack up more yards there but that probably comes at least 3 INTs in this game. And, that’s enough to turn this into a route despite SMU’s complete inability to not turn the ball over.

7

u/throwaway2987650 Florida Gators Sep 08 '26

Daniels is a bit of a scapegoat to Norvell’s awful playcalling. He didn’t play good by any stretch of the imagination, but I didn’t think he looked awful either. Lagway has upside but currently struggles to read a game.

4

u/Bshaw95 Murray State • Florida State Sep 08 '26

He was Tommy’s best go to last year. Idk how we got to this point.

4

u/COBeerGuru2026 West Florida • Florida State Sep 08 '26

I do kinda wonder if Jameis can give Daniels a card for his eye doctor.

1

u/notnickyc USC Trojans Sep 08 '26

He’s really bad at jump balls because he can’t time them so they get broken up. He’s legitimately better in the slot.

1

u/Taintly_Manspread Florida State Seminoles Sep 08 '26

Because Mike Norvell is gawddamn genius and you're not. Checkmate, atheists.

1

u/EstablishmentTop551 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 08 '26

I’ve never been a believer but if I were, Norvell could make me an atheist.

1

u/TapNumerous4625 West Virginia • West Virginia Sep 08 '26

Because the QB couldn’t throw it within 5 yards of him anyway.
