Fixing shit while explaining to management why shit isn't fixed is the worst.

I’m sure they were understanding with 60,000 people waiting patiently for the game to start

Especially when a potential reason for it being broken is that maintenance was delayed and declined by said management and they still refuse to accept that as a possible reason.

You mean you don't like it when people who have no clue how to do your job stand over your shoulder while you try and fix a problem odds are you told them about months ago?

“Soooo… how we looking?”

“Working.”

“Yes I see. About how long do you think this will take?”

“I don’t know.”

“Hmm ok. Just we have a stadium full of people. Let’s do it right but we have to move quickly here.”

“Yes I know.”

“Ok well I will leave you to it and check back in a bit.”

4 minutes later, exact same conversations repeats…

When I was a maintenance manager at a small pulp mill the only answer I would give for "how long will this take?" was "5 days". They never liked that, so I would offer a different answer with the caveat that they couldn't use it against me or I'd stick with rhe 5 day thing for every event in the future.

Them asking how long until it fixed when you haven't opened stuff up to find the problem yet is a worse nightmare.

Oh god I still remember being in on the weekend explaining to the kind SES why the network I wasnt trained on or competent in was still broken and I was struggling to fix it.

"no it's not fixed yet. No I don't know what's wrong. No I can't figure it out while you keep asking me. Oh you'll be back in 5 minutes to do this all over again? Cool cool"
