Props to Texas for never quitting. They could’ve easily folded after being down 23-3

For real. Some real coaching criticisms for Texas but you can’t argue their fight. The boys gave it all tonight.

As soon as y’all muffed a punt inside the 10, recovered it, converted a 4th and 9 in your own territory a few plays later, fumbled it again a few plays later and recovered it again, then finally scored your first touchdown to cut it to 13 (all in the same drive), I knew y’all were 100% going to win.

You just can’t make this shit up.

Really?  I was still on the edge of my seat until that last penalty on Ohio State’s final drive.

It's a Ryan Day team in the regular season, he's fantastic at shitting the bed and throwing high profile games like this

Except the last two times we played

-10

Those are very small and insignificant at the end of the day when you look at his whole body of work outside of the NT season and even that was marred by the horiffic Michigan loss

When I saw us fumble the first snap on a throw to the flat and the ball bounce off of Cam Coleman for an interception I thought there was divine energy against us

11

u/TheFlyingBoat Texas Longhorns • /r/CFB Poll Veteran Sep 13 '26

I literally threw up my hands, said it was the Ted Cruz Curse and gave up. Thankfully a more powerful force came in to save us

1

u/TempSpee Jackson State Tigers Sep 13 '26

I'll say this. The longhorns and running flat outside passes or (check downs) is so exhausting and funny. Coach Steve didn't have any 10+ post routes for us lol despite the recovery the defense made.

3

u/Dr_Findro Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

I am so tired of horizontal passes haha. They work when our team is vastly more talented that our opponent. But not elite competition

I like to think that our fans Boo’d Steve in to stop calling those plays

4

u/_Football_Cream_ Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

Idk man Arch also was not seeing some wide open stuff. I know it's easy to armchair coach as I watch from the upper level, and it's a great defense, but lots of instances the play developing correctly but holding it too long and missing the windows.

Sark is one of the absolute best at drawing up screens, they're not as problematic as people make them out to be and a huge part of our offense. Most of the bad behind the line throws last night were Arch taking too long and settling for a bad check down rather than a designed horizontal throw (though there were some of those).

25

u/CowApprehensive9459 SMU Mustangs Sep 13 '26

I knew it too haha. I was like yeah they gonna win from behind aren’t they? And the beginning felt scripted too, first play being a fumble.

The dropped TD by Wingo add 4 more points too.

17

It goes both ways. Wingo dropped a sure fire TD for us, Cam drops that bomb at the beginning as well..

10

u/love_that_fishing Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

Reminded me of the A&M / USC game last year down 27 and once they scored that 2nd TD you knew it was over.

I think that was two years ago in a bowl game.

1

1

Ah. You’re right. I guess when I hear “Aggies” and “blown lead” I revert to the usual suspect…

8

u/Fountain_Of_Euth Sep 13 '26

That's football. If the defender doesn't luck out on the first play of the game and backheel the ball for a fumble; if coleman's deflection didnt go straight to the DB; if wingo doesn't drop an easy TD. That's football.

3

u/meatmacho Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

At the beginning of that drive, I looked at my FIL and said, "This is it. If they can't get a touchdown on this drive, then the whole season is in question."

Then they gave themselves every opportunity to fail to score a TD. But damn if they didn't turn the train completely around after that.

3

u/badlydrawnzombie Notre Dame • Jeweled Shillelagh Sep 13 '26 edited Sep 13 '26

Exactly. Because that's the type of bullshit that haunts you as an opposing fan. College football is cursed like the monkey paw and it will fucking wrap it's stupid little fingers on you. But if you get too close to it and think oh shit, we converted this 4th and 16, we're gonna win! Then you lose. It's a fine line of stupid shit that needs to be tread and I can guarantee that it's probably all due to some Ohio State fan that finally switched his underwear after they got too itchy.

Edit. I don't need to prove this, these messages are sent through Saint Francis. He says shut up.

That's why I said pray and look at the stat sheets. Sure enough the longhorns are rank 4 with plenty time to play at the half. And exactly what you would think really happened. Besides what coach Steve Sarkisian has been known to do when bringing in new players with a pretty solid quarterback.

2

u/_Football_Cream_ Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

The refs were very lax yesterday in general though. Hopefully this is a trend for us but they were really letting the boys play (which in general I don't mind, even if there were some missed calls)

-13

u/ASadDrunkard Iowa State Cyclones • MIT Engineers Sep 13 '26

I turned on the espn YouTube clip of the last few minutes, and the first play shown was a blatant DPI with the Texas corner shoving the WR out of bounds.

Getting few penalties when they're not being called isn't worth feeling good about.

u/KongUnleashed Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 13 '26

My dude I am a certified Longhorn Hater but that was one of the most insane and impressive comebacks I’ve ever seen. Your boys put the Fight in Texas Fight in that 4th quarter.

6

u/revanisthesith SEC • Team Chaos Sep 13 '26

The play calling improved, but that wouldn't have been enough if the players hadn't decided to fight like hell.

And when you don't like one of the teams, sometimes you just have to let yourself be a football fan ahead of being a fan of your team.

This game was a great example of why this sport can be so much fun. It was certainly entertaining.

7

u/KongUnleashed Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 13 '26

That’s a great way to put it. I actually dislike both schools, but I love college football and that was a great game to be a football fan.

4

u/revanisthesith SEC • Team Chaos Sep 13 '26

It's can be similar for me for The Game. I don't like Michigan or Ohio State (my mom's from Wisconsin), so I usually cheer against whoever would be lose the most with a loss (like being eliminated from the playoffs or losing the #1 seed/a bye).

Or, I cheer for the funniest outcome. Like when Michigan sucked and still won.

But mostly I just want an entertaining game. Preferably with hilarious mistakes and/or fluky plays on both sides. I want to see stuff like that crazy INT in this game happen in The Game. They're both really talented teams and just weird stuff happens that basically out of their control. Keep it interesting.

I'm 100% team chaos for that game, but I still want to see good football being played.

2

u/KongUnleashed Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 14 '26

1000% with you on cheering for the funniest outcome. Hell, I’ve even enjoyed the funnier outcome when it was to Bama’s detriment. When Vandy popped up and whooped us a couple of years back I was pleased as could be to watch them carry the goalposts to the river. That year’s Bama team didn’t look like it was going to be a contender anyway and they got to have their biggest football moment ever and the celebrations were hilarious,

All of Texas' coaching criticisms just got foisted onto Ryan Day after that horrendous coaching performance.

18

u/yoitsthatoneguy Billable Hours • /r/CFB Sep 13 '26

I think Sark and Day have different issues. Day plays scared way too much for how much talent he has. Sark’s offense is just way too inconsistent. For both of them it leads to offense disappearing for large stretches, but the why is different.

4

u/rick_ferrari Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

Ive spent the past few hours totally offline and wallowing in sadness. One of the worst ways to lose. Experienced many brutal blowouts but this game, along with Clemson '19, were more painful than any others. Excluding '06 Florida.

I didnt find relief until I finally considered the UT perspective. What a win for you guys. What a way to come back. What a story.

UT needed this a whole lot more than we did, I knew that coming in and also expected to lose. When they showed Sark before the comeback in the 3rd I sang "sound of silence" and got a lot of laughs.

Losing the way we did was extremely painful, but man the jubilation you guys must be feeling is awesome. Im genuinely happy for you.

I have to admit I had my doubts about whether Sark could win some games like this but Texas’s adjustments at halftime were excellent.

Arch didn’t let the first half affect him, run game got going, and the defense found ways to unsettle Sayin.

Day also horribly botched the last minute of game clock. Should have saved his timeout and let Texas score with 50 odd seconds remaining to give them a chance.

You think? Ohio state left 21 points off the board and you were just unlucky?

42

Texas gave y’all 10 points of fluke plays in the fist 5 minutes.

Where exactly did OSU leave 21 points off?

-38

We drove the ball up and down the field on you for almost 3 quarters, we took three fgs and our coaches called it a day, but sure, go off king.

38

u/chapeauetrange Michigan Wolverines Sep 13 '26

Maybe the reason OSU kept attempting FGs was that the one time they went for it in Texas territory, they got stuffed?

And it's hard to deny that your defense was fortunate not to give up two long TDs in the first half.

-25

u/sumdude51 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

4

u/slimthecowboy Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

Yes, fortunate. Arch hit two open receivers in the hands deep in OSU territory — one in the endzone. One ended in a super improbable pick, the other was dropped.

11

u/chapeauetrange Michigan Wolverines Sep 13 '26

They'd have been a lot better if his WRs on those two deep balls had brought those passes in. OSU was very fortunate that Texas kept shooting itself in the foot offensively in the first half.

-2

u/sumdude51 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

Yeah, we didn't have any drops. 🤔

3

u/Fun-Benefit116 Sep 13 '26

I love how you just ignore the other part of their comment about Ohio State get stuffed when they tried to score the td lol.

What were archs numbers before the 4th quarter?

What exactly is your point here? Do you think you get credit for having a lead after the 3rd quarter? Man, so many people turn into illogical, grumpy dicks when their team loses, instead of just accepting it and moving on.

You lost. You won the first three quarters, but that doesn't matter because Texas won the game. That's it. That's all there is to it. Why do people like you turn into such jerks when their team loses? Either you're always an asshole, in which case you need help. Or you are immature and you let a game that you're literally not even a part of turn you into an asshole, in which case you still need help.

Lmao the classic, most pathetic of all coping "They didn't beat us, we beat ourselves" 😂

You "left points off the board" because Texas was better than you in those situations and stopped you.

but sure, go off king.

God I love when fans of the losing team are so angry that they become absolutely children. The best is when losers like you act like everything that went wrong for the other team is because your team earned it and made it happen, but everything that went wrong for your team is because you did it to yourselves and the opponent didn't actually earn any of it lmao.

The comment doing more for the narrative of the game than the article. 23-3 holy shit.

Well said, makes me think of the 2015 Cotton Bowl where Michigan State was down 20 to Baylor in the 4th Quarter and although they ALMOST lost twice, they executed everything JUST enough to come back and win (including blocking a BU field goal and converting a 4th Down on the way to the winning TD with under 30 seconds remaining).

The takeaway from that win by the Spartans and now this one by the Longhorns is NEVER quit, and if you have a big lead in a big game, NEVER assume it is safe.

I just went and watched, they zoomed in on arch before the first 4th down conversion and he had that classic deer in the headlights look. After that he regained his composure and just looked so much better. Really bad ass 4th quarter

I fully expected the final drive to be us just fumbling the ball into the end zone turning it over.

I don’t like Sark sober, but he might need to give a call to his old coworker in Eugene.
