If I was an NC State fan I’d need a RedditCares message right now

No one is emotionally invested enough in this program anymore to need it. We wanted Dave fired years ago

Legit had my VT friend text me “wow great win” after the INT and did a “buddy we are never no drama” and I hate that it’s expected at this point.

People are going to rip Bailey for not holding onto that football, and yes, he can get ripped for that. However, they run the short down QB for 3 plays, made no real effort to actually get a 1st down, then tried to get cute on running the clock out. That’s on the coaching staff. Just fucking pick up the 1st man. They made no effort other than 3 draws.

This is a Dave disaster class level game and it’s on him more than anyone.

u/MojoToTheDojo NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

And is any of us surprised this? Is any State fan truly surprised that under this coaching regime, this is how we lose? lol, absolutely not.

This is a moment where Boo has a decision to make that affect the trajectory of this franchise. If you allow Dave to stay, then this program has no hope for the foreseeable. It doesn’t matter if you don’t exactly have someone lined up, it doesn’t matter if you lose Gunner. This kind of loss sticks and you need to cut it now. Well, more like four years ago, but today is the next best option.

Wrong, we still sell out every game and I guarantee next weekend will be packed. You severely underestimate how much better our fans are than most of the conference.

4

u/iHateTheNYJ NC State Wolfpack 27d ago

Yup. This is it on State football for me, no more donations or purchases from me

6

u/MojoToTheDojo NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

You’re probably right on all accounts.

Dave still needs to be fire. At this point it’s just about self respect.

2

u/allcaps-NOSPACE 27d ago

Yeah except we’ve had losses like this year after year and Dave is still there :(

1

u/Cultural-Mirror6112 28d ago

The play was to kneel down in the end zone. Which is the right play call. Cj fucked it up. He’s the one with the ball that made the decision to not kneel

When NC State was calling draws up the middle to run out clock, I legitimately messaged my friends "watch NC State fumble here to give us another round of laughs." Lo and fucking behold. I probably don't watch as much NC State as you, but even I saw this as a possibility lol.

Honestly not trying to pile on here, but "Disasterclass Dave" does have a nice ring to it.

6

u/wolfpackrider NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

He’s earned it man. On multiple occasions.

12

u/buzzlightyear5095 NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

Not to say Dave isn’t blameless but that’s on Bailey. Either run out the clock and throw it away or take a safety if it breaks down. He’s a 3 year starter they should be able to trust him to not fuck up in that situation

3

u/Vikkunen South Carolina Gamecocks • Marching Band 28d ago

Really curious what the actual playcall/instruction was there, because trying to run six seconds off the clock in your own end zone was the absolute last thing I expected. Just fade back take the safety. Yeah you give Vandy the ball back, but they'd have one play from deep in their own territory.

2

u/sneakypenguin94 Appalachian State • Wake Forest 28d ago

Coaching made the correct call to take the safety. CJ just made a completely boneheaded play to not GO DOWN as planned in the endzone

2

u/BoogleBud North Carolina • Colgate 28d ago

As a Bills fan, your story triggers the memory of a very similar text from a friend on the 13 seconds game.

1

u/RonsonSwanson- 28d ago

Bad play calling but all he had to do was take the safety and the games over. Maybe we see a Hail Mary or kick return but that was a bone head play 100%. Busch league stuff.

This might do it

u/Benson879 Iowa State Cyclones 28d ago

I remember we had something not as egregiously bad, but still pretty bad that finally got Paul Rhoads fired. Pretty sure we were still running the ball when we could have kneeled out against K State and fumbled, eventually losing.

Lead us to hiring Matt Campbell. So who knows, maybe this’ll be a good thing in hindsight if it gets Dave canned.

2

u/RogueOneisbestone ECU Pirates • NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

Some have wanted him fired for a decade

1

u/crosswatt Georgia Bulldogs • Old Dominion Monarchs 28d ago

How has he survived for over a decade having never cracked ten wins? That is unfathomable to me.

3

u/willncsu34 NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

He wins 7-9 games and beats UNC.

1

u/acerage NC State Wolfpack 28d ago

Yeah any true NC State fan has been completely desensitized to stuff like this.

1

u/Wolfpack_DO NC State • South Carolina 28d ago

Inb4 the “who can we get that’s better” crowd

1

u/whistleridge NC State Wolfpack • Vermont Catamounts 28d ago

Correct.

It’s NCSU. You learn very early on not to expect much if anything, except to lose games you should win, and to occasionally win games you have no business winning.

1

u/heelyeahbrother North Carolina Tar Heels 27d ago

Unfortunately for both of us, we’ll swoop in and save his job like always.

Unfortunately, RedditCares fumbled before being able to check on their Safety.

Don't worry, we're used to it

16

u/Junior_Bullfrog_718 28d ago

good lord, from up 14 to giving up 21 in the 4th, that's a special kind of collapse

1

u/Imma_P0tato Ohio State Buckeyes • Ohio Bobcats 27d ago

At least they weren't up 20 in the 4th.

1

u/itsabearcannon Vanderbilt • Georgia Tech 26d ago

I was glad to see it, honestly. Obvious homerism, but also I'm still used to Vandy putting up decent points until about halfway through 2Q, where we just fold like a souffle in a cupboard every single time.

Actually fighting to the end of games is a refreshing change these last few years.

The only way you survive it is by being numb and knowing good things won't happen to this program

And Matt Jones. Me and my buddy were talking about him last night his legacy lives on.

Any loss to ECU is fucking inexcusable but to act like that after a loss is particularly bad

1

u/jdptechnc NC State Wolfpack • Team Chaos 27d ago edited 27d ago

No, the ECU player started it when he yanked the towel from the one State player and tried to run off with it

As someone who has been laid off and unemployed for 5 months, staring down the barrel at 6...

3

u/PsychedelicConvict Michigan • Eastern Michigan 27d ago

It really feels similar to the punt block that msu pulled off against michigan in 2016. Just unbelievable watching it live. If it was a rivalry game, i guess that is the only thing that would make it crazier. I was in prison for that 2016 game in a michigan state pen and the block when fucking crazy lolol. Most people had left the tv room thinking it was over. Never seen a phone line so long.

I told my wife NC State was going to lose this game right after they went up by 2 scores. I did not predict this level of chaos for it to happen though.
