Is Kentucky good or Texas A&M just bad? Little bit a both.

u/Gay_Giraffe_1773 Oregon Ducks • Portland State Vikings 27d ago

Why not both?

165

u/jc76417 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Definitely both

u/BreadZoneDefense Tennessee Volunteers • Sickos 27d ago

Por Que no los dos?

2

u/Mitochondrion14 Georgia • Montana State 27d ago

Very much both

All I know is this is the most competent Kentucky has looked as a football team in my nearly 35 years watching.

57

u/HorilkaMedPerets Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

It's wild seeing a mostly mistake-free team

7

u/Heyhaykay Kentucky Wildcats • WKU Hilltoppers 27d ago

Take away the 1st quarter

33

u/RefereeMason1 South Carolina Gamecocks 27d ago

my brother is a sophomore at UK and i’m having a blast watching these games together while we’re hundreds of miles apart.

11

u/JediKid-A Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

The Will Levis/Wan'Dale season? Or the season Lynn Bowden, Jr did a damn good Tommy Frazier impression?

12

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Even in those seasons it felt like any big win was despite ourselves. Or an individual performer.

This felt like an actual team win.

3

u/JediKid-A Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

That's fair.

6

u/surgeon_michael Kentucky Wildcats • Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

Nah the Josh Allen team was fundamentally sound

8

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Defensively that team was elite. It had like what, 5 pros on D? Offensively, they were basically the fighting Benny snells. Still loved that team.

3

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Defensively at least.

2

u/romulus531 Kentucky • Notre Dame 27d ago

Still the best team we've had this century

2

u/MEGAWATT5 LSU Tigers • College Football Playoff 27d ago

I was rooting hard for yall last week, but it’s hard to go up against a team as deep as Bama for four quarters and come out on top. Yalls TEs are legit!

3

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Stoops not utilizing Rodriguez is a huge reason our fans soured on him so quickly. He’s a beast.

2

u/TheMadChatta Chattanooga Mocs 27d ago

So, what happened last week versus Alabama that changed this week versus A&M?

7

u/Separate_Animator110 Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

Kentucky scored more points than them😁

2

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Honestly, I think about 8 plays going differently separate that game from a blowout to a win or a close game. Two fourth down fake punts immediately come to mind and I know there were a couple of miscues on offense.

I haven’t shared that opinion because I know it sounds like coping or sour grapes, but hopefully that’s not the case if I say it after a win like this.

1

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

We only had one fake punt?

1

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

I thought it was two, but the other one may have just been going for it on 4th.

1

u/Panem-et-circenses25 Kentucky • Wayne State (MI) 27d ago

Except for my freshman year team in 98, agree

1

u/swiftekho Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

This is the first Kentucky team that looks like it knows how to play 21st century football.

1

u/Prestigious-Car-4324 Texas A&M Aggies • Team Chaos 27d ago

It’s because you played us, I wouldn’t expect you to look as competent next week. Sorry for resetting expectations.

95

u/idnttcrisis Georgia Bulldogs • Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Definitely wouldn’t underrate Stein. They gave Alabama some trouble in the first half last week too. But A&M is also pretty bad.

32

u/thechosenkenobi Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

If the Kentucky of the 3rd quarter of this game showed up against bama, that game is either a win or very, very close

9

u/GetBoopedSon Alabama Crimson Tide • Ole Miss Rebels 27d ago

A win wouldn’t surprise me. Bama has had the exact same issues last year and this year. We can look like two entirely different teams during the course of one game. One of them looks like a national champ and the other one looks like a 7-5 team en route to the pop tart bowl

6

u/guinness_blaine Princeton Tigers • Texas Longhorns 27d ago

Pretty good start to his coaching tenure.

6

u/Unrelenting_Salsa LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 27d ago

While I think Kentucky is probably a 7 if not 8 win team, Mike Norvell is also currently giving Bama one hell of a game, so I don't think it means that much.

7

u/RickThaDick Alabama Crimson Tide • Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

It means that DeBoer still struggles with getting Bama to come out swinging at the start of a game and every time we have to claw our way back into the game. Eventually it’s going to be too far gone to recover.

Unless something changed, “you’re welcome” is correct.

2

u/TakeTheThirdStep Texas A&M Aggies • Marching Band 27d ago

Considering that post is edited I'd say that, yes, something changed.

4

u/ZeGentleman Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Couldn’t see it on the app for some stupid reason.

2

u/TakeTheThirdStep Texas A&M Aggies • Marching Band 27d ago

TBF it does seem like it can take a few minutes for the edited tag to show up.

1

u/ZeGentleman Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Weird. Logged in on the website and it shows like I expect it to. I still see no indicator on the app. But I’m unsurprised, this app absolutely blows.

Pretty funny they have to hire a Cardinal to have any success.

Is Elko is the reason Marcel can’t hit a wide open man 5 yds in front of him? Is Elko is the reason Marcel will stare down a guy wide open for 3 seconds before finally throwing the ball to him when he’s triple covered?

I think Elko is a lot better than the dogshit we’ve dealt with the past 15 years. He made a bad decision hiring an OC with zero experience.

But if you don’t have anything useful at QB and a backup that isn’t any better, not much the coach can do in the middle of a game.

81

u/Tipakee Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

Watching 34 mins of this game. A&M has quarterback and receiver issues. So many off target passes, but tons of drops too.

93

u/imused2it Kentucky Wildcats 27d ago

I’d say mostly QB issues.

3

u/crazy_balls Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Seriously, we should have rid ourselves of Reed last year. Dude can't tell a difference between a WR and a Corner.

30

u/Nickaroo1509 Texas A&M Aggies • Oregon Ducks 27d ago

Bethel Roman was out today and bussey apparently got hurt very early. Craver was all they had.

17

u/vade281 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Horton disappeared today

15

u/miniadu3 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Reed tried to send him to the hospital a few times. And Reed is a one read QB. The WRs probably know if they aren't the primary target on a play the ball isn't coming to them

Dude i honestly forgot about him completely. That tells the story really.

6

u/clegg2011 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Bussey was carted off after the kickoff. Details haven't come out yet but I would not be surprised to see him miss most of the season.

4

u/EIiteJT Texas Longhorns • Team Chaos 27d ago

We've been trying to tell y'all. Reed is ass.

4

u/jayjude Notre Dame • Georgia State 27d ago

LSU fucked TAMU 2 years ago

Weigman is the better QB but LSU couldnt stop the QB run so Elko was more or less forced to keep Reed

2

u/Disarmer Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago edited 27d ago

2 starting WRs out but reed was inadmissiby terrible

1

u/hillrow_wood Texas A&M • North Texas 27d ago

I definitely saw way more QB issues than WR issues

your receiver's dropped TD was by far the worst straight up drop, there were a few contested catches we didn't come down with

1

u/horseshoeprovodnikov Florida State Seminoles 27d ago

As much as I hate to say it, the biggest problem is at QB. Marcel Reed is essentially the same guy that showed up in College Station a few years ago. He makes terrible decisions, and even when he makes the correct read, he has a habit of spraying the ball all over the place.

1

u/Cheetotesticles 27d ago

Offensive line wasn’t very good either though. Reed was scrambling quite a bit

29

u/mayence Georgia Bulldogs • Wisconsin Badgers 27d ago

That's what makes this part of the season fun. Who knows!

23

u/Cheetotesticles 27d ago

Both. Kentucky played bama well before the wheels completely fell off. I think they’ll be in a bowl game this year though

25

u/nathodood Michigan Wolverines • Nebraska Cornhuskers 27d ago

Looks like Texas 8&4 is back on the menu, boys!

33

u/DirtAndShovels Texas A&M Aggies • Kansas Jayhawks 27d ago

We ain’t winning 8 lmao

12

u/evilmnky45 Texas A&M Aggies • Ball State Cardinals 27d ago

Yeah no fuckin shot we win 8. This team is awful. Hopefully reed will get benched at some point cuz woooooo boi he cannot play QB.

1

u/miniadu3 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

WR is our only decent position. QB sucks. Both lines suck. RB sucks (since the OL sucks and we won't bench Owens for the better freshmen when they get the ball). Defense looked slow as hell today and the DL gets no push. So many plays where Kentucky just had 5+ seconds standing in the pocket without any pressure at all

Seems like all the transfers are duds too (mostly OL which looks terrible)

1

u/originalusername4567 Kansas Jayhawks 27d ago

Texas 4&8?

5

u/Beard-Thirty Alabama • Ball State 27d ago

Easily top team in the country, and if anyone were to beat them that would be the biggest resume builder. Big enough to ignore a bad game against a non-conference opponent. No idea why I felt I needed to include that last part……

4

u/TheElkoEra Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Blown coverages everywhere, we were very bad in an area that was supposed to be our strength so credit Kentucky but that was us being absolutely horrid imo. Reed also missed so many gimmes. A&M is a bad team this year

5

u/Rentington Marshall Thundering Herd • 東洋大学 (Toyo) Vikings 27d ago

I watched the Alabama game. The score made it look like a blowout but the reality is Alabama just got rolling downhill with momentum at the end. That's not to say the better team didn't win, clearly, but they weren't nearly as outmatched as the final score implied.

6

u/LogicianMission22 Utah Utes • Big 12 27d ago

Given the FSU vs Alabama game, both may just be horrendous.

3

u/lcr68 Texas A&M • Mississippi State 27d ago

Possibly both. I definitely know A&M is bad.

3

u/samhit_n Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

It honestly doesn't matter. A&M losing at home early in the season is inevitable.

2

u/JayMerlyn Notre Dame Fighting Irish • FBS Independents 27d ago

I think it's both

2

u/Dudeincar434 27d ago

They are both probably middle pack sec teams.

2

u/kmoz Texas Longhorns 27d ago

Kentucky clearly isn't awful. Some creative play calling, O line seems solid which is always a good sign.

If a&m is going to live and die by reed they're gonna struggle. He makes way too many big mistakes.

2

u/RukiMotomiya 27d ago

I do think Kentucky is rather underrated. Doesn't mean they're an insane team, but better than unranked.

2

u/DwayneBaconStan Penn State • Emory & Henry 27d ago

UK isn't good, but they're not terrible. AM is good but not playoff good again imo so the flaws showed

1

u/MisterB78 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 27d ago

A&M looked really bad at the end. That QB is definitely not someone you want to put the game on when you’re behind

1

u/clegg2011 Texas A&M Aggies 27d ago

Which is wild considering he came in off the bench against LSU 2 years ago trailing 17-7 to lead a comeback win.

1

u/MisterB78 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 27d ago

Yeah… he looked really rattled under what wasn’t a ton of pressure from the defense and had a ton of errant throws

1

u/_TomatoSandwich_ 27d ago

Kentucky is better, aTm is the same.

-5

u/Medium-Bird3204 Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

The SEC is bad*
