I didn’t realize how angry non-Purdue fans get about Indiana

442

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame 21d ago

That's the real test of if your program has ascended. Last year everyone was like "aww go Indiana, you guys can do it!" And this season they're "ay fuck Cig google these nuts, I wanna see these fuckers lose so bad" 😂

Yeah I’m not even mad about the hate, it feels good to not be the team everyone pity cheers for anymore lol

32

u/MindsEyeCoil90 Indiana Hoosiers 21d ago

The hate is fine. I get it, I embrace it, I celebrate it. Just don’t be that FSU flair guy (or the multiple Bama flairs last year).

11

u/SneakyDeakyJr Auburn Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 21d ago

You get over it quick but when you fall, you’ll see hate you never thought possible.

See for example :

gestures broadly at any situation where if bama loses to you, you get praise but it’s still bama so they will themselves into a win anyway

2

u/Brochacho27 Miami Hurricanes 21d ago

Its a different sport but people still talk shot and hate on the heat for the lebron years.

2

u/Beer-survivalist Ohio State • Saint Louis 21d ago

The Spooky copypasta has been buried forever, which I would assume feels quite nice.

3

u/Cowboy_BoomBap Indiana Hoosiers • Rose Bowl 21d ago

It really does lol

1

u/Beer-survivalist Ohio State • Saint Louis 21d ago

It's much better to win and be hated.

Being an Ohio State fan, you might not think it--but I'm a Cleveland sports fan too. The lovable loser underdog shit sucks.

We could find out, I'm sure there are some old letters and telegrams preserved with people's reactions. "Dearest Agnes, I write to you with much vexation..."

i remember seeing some heiroglyphics on the pyramids...

3

u/Montigue Oregon Ducks • Stony Brook Seawolves 21d ago

Enough people hate them as is

4

u/jf3l Indiana • Indiana State 21d ago

It’s the best feeling ever

5

u/blackulaa Michigan Wolverines • Army Black Knights 21d ago

We will know whether they truly ascended by whether they can sustain after Cignetti leaves or retires. Coker anyone?

7

u/Huge-Internal6456 Oklahoma • Tennessee State 21d ago

Yeah it happens to every team when either or both of the coach and/or the fans start thinking they’re invincible and smelling their own farts.  Extra points if it’s a team or coach that’s never really played with a target on their backs. Happens with the coaches first, then the dedicated long-suffering fans follow. Everybody loved Clemson until Dabo tried his hand at moral superiority. For some reason, I think people thought Cig would be humble about winning a ‘ship.  But fuck that; Cig talks big dawg shit, and so far backs it up, so that emboldens the fanbase to talk their shit, and then it turns into a pissing contest. You’ll find the greatest vitriol comes from fans of teams that will only play Indiana in a playoff game, or not at all in the foreseeable future.   It’s what makes college football so much fun!

4

u/zimmeli Michigan State Spartans 21d ago

Cig deserved to talk his shit, but I absolutely want to see him have to eat some shit too

1

u/guttata Messing with guttata's user flair 21d ago

I still don't hate Indiana, we just found a bigger underdog

-5

u/tgblack Indiana Hoosiers • Cincinnati Bearcats 21d ago

Georgia and Ole Miss are still theoretical national champions in their own minds.

2

u/pigman769 Mercer Bears • Georgia Bulldogs 21d ago

? We are used to losing playoff games. Happens when you make the dance every year

Edit and don’t get me started on the Richt years lol

-4

u/byte4de 21d ago

LOL, says the guy who likes OSU and ND... literally EVERYONE but their fan bases hate those obnoxious assholes. ND hasn't been relevant since a brief respite in the 80's, and Day is a choke artist.

1

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame 21d ago

Yeah a choke artist with the 2nd best win percentage among active coaches, a national championship, and a winning record against top 5, top 10 and top 25 opponents. Clown ass take.

u/kempfel Indiana Hoosiers • Grinnell Pioneers 21d ago

As a long-time Indiana football fan, it's strange to see non-Purdue fans care so much about our team.

59

u/DryMission5506 Florida State Seminoles • Paper Bag 21d ago

You beat Miami you’re good in my book

23

u/JayMerlyn Notre Dame Fighting Irish • FBS Independents 21d ago

Same

7

u/Alkibiades415 Georgia Bulldogs • Stanford Cardinal 21d ago

And they took a willow switch to Alabama’s bare backside, so Hoosiers are good with Georgia fans too (thank god Georgia dodged Indiana last year)

it pains me to say but the Purdue fans may be less annoying in our game threads than the others lol

u/ViagraOnAPole Indiana Hoosiers • Team Chaos 21d ago

I think it's because you gotta respect the generational hatred and those other guys barely knew we existed 3 years ago. They're bandwagon haters.

good thing they are known for being such a normal, level-headed fan base

22

Bama fans still the saltiest. I guess I’d be too after that ass whooping they got

We don't quit, regardless of how embarrassing our program is. Unlike Hoosier Nation from ~1 AD to 2024...

-4

u/Enchanted-2-meet-you Purdue Boilermakers 21d ago

you may joke but for a franchise as downtrodden as we are, atleast we don't leave the stadium empty like IU lol. I feel pride everytime I'm in the student section and it's genuinely not empty even though everyone knows we're going to get pummelled

26

u/AfraidOfArguing Indiana Hoosiers • Louisville Cardinals 21d ago

I keep seeing Georgia fans in here yelling at us. What they sayin fuck me for? Ya'll lost to Ole Miss with a 23 year old Trinidad Chambliss, say fuck them!

22

u/toomanyshoeshelp Indiana Hoosiers 21d ago

Hahaha, the Georgia fans are extra salty for some reason. And Bama, which makes sense.

3

u/Independent_Trip_892 Penn State Nittany Lions 21d ago

Happens every year. Everyone wants to see last season's winner fall.

1

u/Quiet_Cap5025 Indiana Hoosiers 20d ago

The amount UGA haters I see is insane

82

u/Distinct-Peanut-6703 Indiana Hoosiers 21d ago

All the “Cignetti is a Mendoza merchant” comments spammed in the game thread made me laugh, as if IU didn’t make the playoff with Rourke the previous season

59

u/Kalen72 Indiana Hoosiers • College Football Playoff 21d ago

Rourke with a torn ACL, by the way.

8

u/shittysportsscience Indiana Hoosiers • USC Trojans 21d ago

And a fingernail on his throwing hand that was sewn back on after it was ripped off on an opponent’s helmet.

5

u/RogueHippie Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 21d ago

It's the fate of any new team to win a Natty. Look how quickly the sub turned on Dabo after they beat us.

15

u/BeanMan39 Indiana Hoosiers 21d ago

Me neither. It won't bother me at all as long as we're winning though

3

u/ThaiForAWhiteGuy Georgia Bulldogs • College Football Playoff 21d ago

And if it really did ever bother you, wrapping up in a natty banner, 90% of these fans would kill for right about now, is a good fix. (I don’t get it. It’s not like y’all are Michigan)

6

u/SaltyDalt Clemson Tigers • Summertime Lover 21d ago

Indiana hasn’t been on top of the world nearly long enough for me to develop hatred.

7

u/DryMission5506 Florida State Seminoles • Paper Bag 21d ago

Cignetti needs another title for me to start getting annoyed by them. I’ll start being a true hater when they turn into a dynasty.

4

u/snail-the-sage Indiana • Oklahoma State 21d ago

they been salty for a couple years now

9

u/jakedasnake1 Indiana Hoosiers • Rose Bowl 21d ago

I first noticed it during the ohio state game 2 years ago. All the haters came out of no where to get their kicks in while we were down.

10

u/snail-the-sage Indiana • Oklahoma State 21d ago

yup yup us being good or even decent has left a lot of teams feeling insecure i guess

1

u/SgtDtgt Indiana Hoosiers • Millikin Big Blue 21d ago

To be entirely honest it seems more to stem from refs making some questionable decisions. As a huge homer the face mask actually did look like a face mask to me, but also like it wasn’t gonna make a difference if he didn’t grab his face mask. The run being called out at the 5 seemed really obviously wrong though, so it sheds doubt on pretty much everything. And a lot of the other penalties were pretty timely for us too. I don’t think anyone holds that against Indiana, but no one likes a top 10 team getting that treatment and we just happened to be the one this time.

-30

u/kyrev21 Kentucky Wildcats 21d ago

Because it’s a joke. They are not the #5 team in the nation by any stretch of the imagination. It’s laughable that people suggest that Indiana is some big bad of the Big Ten that everyone is so scared of. They had one magical season, but let’s get real. They play three cupcakes for fucks sake

19

u/GaulPeorge Indiana Hoosiers • Ball State Cardinals 21d ago

Seek help

15

u/Many-Wrongdoer-7597 21d ago

They’re the undefeated defending national champs on a 20 game win streak and are now 31-2 under their head coach. If they had any other logo on their helmet it would be laughable to not have them ranked #1 until they lose a game.

-2

u/kyrev21 Kentucky Wildcats 21d ago

If they had almost any other power logo on their helmet they would be playing a non-conference power 4 team

12

u/MinuteBalance7226 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 21d ago

What are you talking about? Of all teams that are over ranked this year , you’re upset about the reigning national champs being ranked 5 after three games?

6

u/RacistJudicata Nebraska • Notre Dame 21d ago

This is a take. Not a good one, but it's a take.
