It’s not an Iowa game unless you look at the box score and think “how the fuck..?”

The total yardage looks like a glitch in a video game

217

u/Rbespinosa13 Michigan Wolverines 21d ago

Total yardage doesn’t account for the special teams TD

144

u/KirksChewedGum Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

Or an intercepton at the two yard line.

120

u/aye246 Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

Or Wittingham inexplicably choosing to go for it on 4th down against KF instead of taking the points.

He’s new here. He will eventually learn to always take your points in an Iowa game when you aren’t up by 30.

u/TheMerryMosquito Michigan Wolverines • College Football Playoff 21d ago

For real. Some mind numbingly stupid decisions by coaches and players to keep Iowa in the game. Iowa took full advantage kudos to them

13

u/aye246 Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

It really felt like it was KW’s first time playing Iowa and KF. He got taken to the schoolhouse.

Doubt it, he used to. Now he goes overboard with analytics, just watch the Utah BYU game last year. Literally lost because he’s a fucking moron

Do not hold your breath on that

Not only that, but Underwood dove like it was at the goal line and you juat need to break the plane.

u/delawless Iowa Hawkeyes • Floyd of Rosedale 20d ago

Now, to be fair, had he "just taken the points", he would have been dragged. "How can you not go for it against Iowa on 4th and 1! We are Michigan".

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Armchair Coaching always wins games, after the fact.

Yes but objectively, taking the points against an Iowa team who wins by keeping the score low is how to beat Iowa. Midfield is a great place to go for it on 4th and short against Iowa. Going for it when you could go up by 6 (an FG from the Iowa 18) in the first half is a riskier proposition.

Beamer Ball is alive and well.

I was at the game. It was a weird game because watching it Michigan looked like they were dominating and then you'd look at the scoreboard and be like oh its only 10-7

13

u/dexters_trap_house Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

We're like quicksand.

In 2014 we beat the Gators 42-13, with just 119 yards of offense and 7 first downs.

When considering return yards and penalty yards the "effective total" is 510 for Iowa to 515 for Michigan, with a 1-0 turnover margin favoring Iowa. Seeing as how the return TD and penalty yards were crucial in this game, it's a bit more sensible.

It's been a minute since we've seen a textbook Ferentz upset game like this, after choking them away against Indiana and Oregon last year I wasn't sure it'd ever happen again.

13

u/Designer_B Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

We haven’t had a sickos game like this since the Penn state game when we punted to Clifford’s back up instead of playing offense.

11

u/skeetszn2 Ohio State • Appalachian State 20d ago

That PSU game is a candidate for one of the most disgusting games of all time and it was great.

2

u/Designer_B Iowa Hawkeyes 20d ago

I had it playing on my phone while stuff in hollywood rush hour during a 100 degree heat wave. I don't know if anything can ever top that for me.

u/svhelloworld Oregon Ducks 21d ago

I apologize. I was not familiar with Iowa's game.

22

u/BallsDeepinYourMammi Iowa Hawkeyes 21d ago

I mean, the game last year wasn’t exactly a cakewalk for the ducks

13

u/nightowl1135 Oregon Ducks • Big Ten 21d ago

I don’t know a single Duck fan in real life who thought it was, nor who thought it would be pre game.

That's a meme phrase, bro. It's a compliment.

I dont mean this is a rude way, but where have you been the past decade+? This has been Iowa's game for as long as I can remember now

4

u/svhelloworld Oregon Ducks 21d ago

I don't mean this in a rude way but where have you been the past 5 years? Are you really not familiar with this meme?

3

u/donutlad Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Team Chaos 21d ago

yeah I got it I was just trying to also make a joke about how long Iowa has been this weird, weird football team. Probably shouldve included the /s tag at the end of my comment but it didnt seem to quite fit

3

u/svhelloworld Oregon Ducks 21d ago

Hahahahaha r/whoosh.

My bad.

I didn't realize Iowa was allowed to have nearly 4x the passing yards as rushing yards.

9

u/Schmidtty29 Iowa Hawkeyes • Sickos 21d ago

Might I interest you in the 2018 outback bowl

2

u/KiratheSilent Florida • /r/CFB Award Festival 21d ago

All I get is a page error. Linkrot in real time.

10

u/Schmidtty29 Iowa Hawkeyes • Sickos 21d ago

TLDR; Iowa wins 27-22 with 214 pass yards, and -15 rush yards.

Yes that says negative.

Also, weird the link worked for me.

1

u/HawkI84 Iowa Hawkeyes 20d ago

Jeffery Simmons and Montez Sweat on the same d line was not fun to try to run against

10

u/TheHip41 Michigan Wolverines 21d ago

Here's how. Kick return TD. BU INT at the 2. BU didn't convert a 4th and 1

Infinite penalties

Brutal loss

Michigan winning tank job of the week?

3

u/Ondeon Iowa Hawkeyes • Dark Owls ESC Dijon 20d ago

194 yards came in the last 17 minutes. Iowa woke TF up in a big way.

How did Michigan lose this wtf

-14

u/MrJeffreyEpstein 21d ago

iowa should not have had a second left, refs screwed Michigan

12

u/Schmidtty29 Iowa Hawkeyes • Sickos 21d ago

I don’t know what’s worse. Just being completely wrong here (clock stops for injuries. Since it was defensive no TO is forced) or naming your whole account after a prolific predator and human trafficker.

(I do know which is worse)

-13

u/MrJeffreyEpstein 21d ago

It’s not fair

1

u/HawkI84 Iowa Hawkeyes 20d ago

Should we have a do over since we didn't see what Michigan was truly capable of?
