I hate stereotyping fans, but Michigan has in my experience been the worst to interact with. I hate ohio state, but their fans are at least fun to tailgate with. Had a decent time in ann arbor one time, but the fans around us were all dicks
Edit: attended 5 different Michigan games between IU and ND. Not just a one-off instance
What's weird is that it wasn't any younger drunk fans who I would normally expect. It was the 60+ year old farts. The fans in the tailgate fields were cool though
On campus you can buy shirts that say "Arrogant Michigan Alumni", as if it's a good quality. Definitely the most delusional fan base as well. Went 75 years between undisputed national championships and still think they're the greatest.
Sorry you went through that. My family was season ticket holders for a while, and I remember during that decade in our off-years when the team basically wasn't a threat to anybody, everyone always complimented our nice fans lol. I wouldn't be surprised if success and bandwagoners have brought in more of that.
I was there tailgating as well. Had nothing but positive interactions with Michigan fans. Almost got into an agreement about getting some hunting land, but alas it was not meant to be.
