There is great relief that this is what Rocco Becht will be remembered for. He won’t get a chance to build something better in future seasons like Campbell will. This is his last year, he chose to leave the place that welcomed him and made him a household name here for something “better.” And that “better” place will always hate him, and he will become nothing to them.

Couldn't have said it better myself. 🤝

I do not know how to insert a gif, but if I did it would be woody harrelson wiping tears with hundred dollar bills. Rocco isn't going to be an NFL quarterback. This is the most money he will ever make. Good on him for taking it

The thing is, there was a time when Rocco was being tossed around as an NFL hopeful. He has killed that with his own decisions.

Are you trying to imply that if he stayed at Iowa State that he would be headed to the NFL? Because that’s a wild claim….

If that’s not what you’re saying, then what “decisions” are you referring to?

Rocco played as well as Brock did during the 2024 season, so it's not crazy that some GM would think they could strike gold again with a cyclone qb

So you think him being this bad and just having an Iowa State logo next to his name means NFL GMs might want to go after him?

I think you’re reaching hard

You asked if him staying at ISU would have helped him get drafted to the NFL, and I offered an argument for maybe. Doesn't mean he would have lasted long at all. I don't know how his performance for Penn State plays into that at all.

Yes, and I said that’s not a convincing argument to insinuate that him moving to Penn State somehow cost him an NFL career. To make that assertion, you sorta need better arguments than just saying “maybe” it happens!

I know it wasn’t you who asserted that, so I’m not trying to pretend you need to defend it, but that was the line of conversation.

I’m implying that he could have been looking at being a backup or practice squad player for sure. I know you only know him as ass. But he had NFL whispers as early as his sophomore season here, was following in the footsteps of Brock Purdy, had played with eventual NFL starters such as Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Was also about to head into a senior season surrounded by other senior stars. It’s completely plausible that he ends up as a late round pick if he stays and wins 10 games his senior year.

He was not going to be surrounded by senior stars regardless of what decision he made. Your roster was depleted regardless of what he decided.

I think you’re conflating his decision with Campbell’s decision.

Either way, there’s no evidence that he would have won 10 games if he stayed. That wasn’t the trajectory the program was on in general.

This line of logic makes no sense.

You seem uninformed on the state of the ISU program before Campbell left.

You seem uninformed that he wouldn’t be playing in the ISU program before Campbell left, he would be playing in the program without Campbell and all his old teammates

He was literally on track to break the passing records of the guy currently with the second best odds to be the NFL MVP. Not at all a wild claim that another solid season would give him a good chance to make the NFL.

u/max_potion Penn State Nittany Lions 14d ago

How do you know he would have a solid season at Iowa State? There’s no evidence that he would.

8

It’s obviously an educated guess man. He’d already led an 11 win season and an 8 win season and was going to be supported by almost the entire offense returning. There were very high expectations before everything crumbled.

u/max_potion Penn State Nittany Lions 14d ago

But he wouldn’t have that entire offense returning even if he decided to return. He could either follow his coach and the rest of the offense or stay for a new coach and almost an entirely new roster.

I feel like none of the ISU fans in here are actually considering that Becht staying doesn’t mean that everyone else does. He had no say in if Campbell and his teammates left

The user in the previous comment is clearly talking about if Campbell and everyone else hadn’t left ISU, hence the “before everything crumbled” line.

Great, it’s still not relevant to this season and getting to the NFL

4

u/AHugeGoose Iowa State Cyclones • Florida Gators 14d ago

I obviously don't know that. Clearly there's no evidence of a hypothetical scenario that will never happen.

All I said was that he was having a great career and had NFL prospects that would have continued with another solid season, not that staying at ISU guaranteed him one. Enjoy your new coach and team.

I know that’s all you said, but you said it defending the notion that going to Penn State somehow cost him an NFL career. Your comment does not exist in a vacuum, it’s part of the larger conversation and you clearly said it with that context.

And yes, I know there’s 0 evidence for this hypothetical situation, that’s my point. But yet you’re arguing with me instead of the guy pretending he does know how that hypothetical situation plays out.

Enjoy your new coach and team as well.

However, if everyone in Ames hates his ass as much as Mr. Pothole here, the decision could meaningfully affect the success of his future Kia dealership there.

Jesus lmao, is there more context to Becht leaving than just following the coach who recruited him?

10

u/olbleedyeyes Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 14d ago

No, this is just people letting off steam. I mean Rocco literally graduated from Iowa State lol

I personally feel bad for Rocco. I'm not sure what's happened to him but he's regressed consistently last year and he's looked awful this year. It's just bad.

12

u/max_potion Penn State Nittany Lions 14d ago

No, these dudes are just salty as fuck. They’re trying to say he cost himself an NFL career by following Campbell lmao

u/McK-Juicy 14d ago

We hate Rocco now? News to me

u/swolekick Penn State • Land Grant Trophy 14d ago

Thats a satisfying level of hate. I respect it and would feel the same way.

u/Nicky2Slick Penn State Nittany Lions 14d ago

Just a thought…but maybe it wasn’t Ames that he committed to. Maybe like many kids, it was the relationship with the staff that recruited him.

Put yourself in the kids shoes and reevaluate. Feeling relief that a 22 year old kid’s career may be altered all bc left the team you cheer for to follow the coach that believed in him is a little sad. Lol

lol, Rocco Becht is the farthest thing possible from a “household name.” 🤡

You isu dorks are so detached from reality
