Pretty sure it's the most expensive one in the sport?

Much to the chagrin of the people in the neighborhood who voted against it being built. Also we were informed of it's price tag as the administration started slashing support jobs on the research side and paused raises for faculty.

But yeah, it is pretty.

Ryan Family funded the whole fucking thing dude. Go away

They did not.

They contributed 480 or so of the 900ish million dollar bill. The rest was the university. I taught there while it was being built. Don’t know what’s got your panties in a wad.

Give me a single source stating that the university spent its own administrative money on this project

You can very easily google this.

First hit on google.

Northwestern had expected to spend about $300 million renovating the old stadium. Building a new one was first priced at $830 million.

The elder Ryan agreed to cover most of that gap.

I was working there at the time it's not any kinda secret that NU put forward a few hundred million. Not sure why you're framing it that way. The Daily Northwestern talked about it plenty, with figures around 300ish million being reported from NU when the plan was first put forth alongside push back from Evanston.

EDIT: second hit: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/42461968/northwestern-reveals-plans-new-850-million-ryan-field

The cost for new Ryan Field far surpasses the most for a new stadium built in college football, San Diego State's Snapdragon Stadium at $310 million, or the biggest renovation, Texas A&M's Kyle Field at $450 million. Northwestern, which had put aside funds in anticipation of a stadium renovation, will support part of the rebuild, but most will come from the Ryan family.

Yeah none of that suggests the school spent any money on the new stadium. You can easily google this, your sources just state that they were were willing to.

The newly opened $875 million Ryan Field at Northwestern University was entirely privately funded, anchored by a historic $480 million gift from the Patrick and Shirley Ryan family. [1, 2]
📊 Funding Overview

Total Cost: $875 million
Public Investment: $0 (100% privately funded)
Primary Donor: The Ryan Family ($480 million lead contribution)
Additional Sources: University philanthropic fundraising and private capital campaigns [1, 3]

Private capital includes Northwestern. No one is arguing that the public paid for it. I'm baffled by your reticence in imagining the University paid for it's own stadium.

Your top two sources literally say NU contributed lol. The next 3 don't say much of anything at all.

[u/The_Saddest_Boner → u/RagePoop]

None of my sources say northwestern paid for it.

The stadium was 100% paid for by private donations. Zero university budget was used.

The university budget is a private source. NU is a private institution. How do you not understand that?

From your ESPN source:

The cost for new Ryan Field far surpasses the most for a new stadium built in college football, San Diego State's Snapdragon Stadium at $310 million, or the biggest renovation, Texas A&M's Kyle Field at $450 million. Northwestern, which had put aside funds in anticipation of a stadium renovation, will support part of the rebuild, but most will come from the Ryan family.

But I'm honestly done arguing with you, you're clearly convinced the University was gifted the 900 million dollar stadium. Which doesn't change my day in the slightest.
