I know this is going to sound salty, but it’s so extremely /r/CFB brained to think that anyone outside of social media (least of all, Michigan fans) are still concerned about that scandal in 2026
This proves my point exactly lol. You’re an Ohio State fan on /r/CFB, of course you keep up with all of Michigan’s scandals. But the question was which fanbase is going through a worse time, so my answer is that none of these scandals are influencing how people feel about this current team (and ESPECIALLY Michigan fans, who this question is about). Pretty much everyone outside of Reddit is solely (and fairly) focused on Michigan being a shitty team, not the scandals that Redditors love but everyone else has moved on from
Yeah, but I’m pointing out that Michigan and Penn State fans’ levels of “down bad” (the original wording of the question) has literally nothing to do with our respective scandals. But, to be fair, given how much /r/CFB hypes up everything (on top of your fandom), I can see how you might think otherwise.
I think if you’re a fan of a team that’s struggling and you have recent off field issues that is part of being down bad. I’m not piling on Michigan with some agenda - but Michigan fans are even still dealing with warde being AD and getting a golden parachute. That’s not enjoyable unless you disagree
It’s not really about OSU fandom - I hate both teams haha. My experience with shitty teams that also have recent scandals that suck as a fan is informed by being a Cleveland Browns fan lol
I guess my assumption is that the vast majority of Michigan fans have genuinely zero opinion on Warde Manuel (and if you asked them to name the AD, most couldn’t). So that’s what I mean: I see his name mentioned constantly on /r/CFB, but never anywhere else outside of this subreddit (and so I’m applying that logic to the other scandals, where the level of discourse here isn’t representative of reality). That being said, I could be wrong. But (anecdotally tbf) as a Michigan fan, I don’t see really anyone still feeling bad about the scandals now that we can feel bad about team itself
Steve Angeli 2025 Stats on ESPN show that in his four games for the Syracuse Orange before a season-ending Achilles injury, he completed 98 of 156 passes (62.8%) for 1,317 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions
These are elite stats for almost any QB. Achilles is just brutal to come back from.
They were a few plays away from making the national championship game. I get the follow up year was bad but I would have thought one more year be allowed to right the ship. Plus in this landscape 10-2 is good enough now to make the playoff. I think he could have kept it rolling to have a run.
Easy to say from the outside perspective though when expectations are high. Not saying you are wrong. Was just surprised to see from afar
Honestly if you lookup “Franklin” in this sub and scroll back to older posts you’ll see how many highly upvoted posts are just people clowning his big game record.
Imagine that’s all the discourse about your team for 8 years. Franklin clearly wasn’t having fun, the fans weren’t having fun, the players clearly stopped trying after UCLA….
there was nowhere else to go and it’s sad cause if they just held on and beat Oregon then he’s still our coach :/
Be really fuckin wild (and cool imo as a redemption arc/f you) to finish what Beamer started and win won at tech. But I also know they'll be happy as perennial 9 win team also. Or they should be after the last decade
Michigan is in a worse spot. Yes they won a natty, but Penn State is in full rebuild mode. Michigan already reset and yet I feel like they are getting worse each year.
