Although their scandals are further in the rear view mirror

Edit - since clarity is needed, I’m saying Michigan has multiple scandals recently compared to the one people think of with PSU

I know this is going to sound salty, but it’s so extremely /r/CFB brained to think that anyone outside of social media (least of all, Michigan fans) are still concerned about that scandal in 2026

Which of your recent scandals may I have been referencing haha

It wasn’t even the bo one. You’ve had a few since the one people associate with Penn state

This proves my point exactly lol. You’re an Ohio State fan on /r/CFB, of course you keep up with all of Michigan’s scandals. But the question was which fanbase is going through a worse time, so my answer is that none of these scandals are influencing how people feel about this current team (and ESPECIALLY Michigan fans, who this question is about). Pretty much everyone outside of Reddit is solely (and fairly) focused on Michigan being a shitty team, not the scandals that Redditors love but everyone else has moved on from

I mean they seem fairly well known. There’s been more dialogue in major publications, espn, etc. about Michigan scandals recently than Penn state

That’s all I was pointing out. I don’t think everyone has moved on from multiple recent abusive coaches that were arrested

Yeah, but I’m pointing out that Michigan and Penn State fans’ levels of “down bad” (the original wording of the question) has literally nothing to do with our respective scandals. But, to be fair, given how much /r/CFB hypes up everything (on top of your fandom), I can see how you might think otherwise.

I think if you’re a fan of a team that’s struggling and you have recent off field issues that is part of being down bad. I’m not piling on Michigan with some agenda - but Michigan fans are even still dealing with warde being AD and getting a golden parachute. That’s not enjoyable unless you disagree

It’s not really about OSU fandom - I hate both teams haha. My experience with shitty teams that also have recent scandals that suck as a fan is informed by being a Cleveland Browns fan lol

I guess my assumption is that the vast majority of Michigan fans have genuinely zero opinion on Warde Manuel (and if you asked them to name the AD, most couldn’t). So that’s what I mean: I see his name mentioned constantly on /r/CFB, but never anywhere else outside of this subreddit (and so I’m applying that logic to the other scandals, where the level of discourse here isn’t representative of reality). That being said, I could be wrong. But (anecdotally tbf) as a Michigan fan, I don’t see really anyone still feeling bad about the scandals now that we can feel bad about team itself

The scandals didn’t bother you at all over the past couple years and affect your feelings as a fan negatively?

I’m not even saying it’s all fans - but there are plenty of fans beyond Reddit who know about all this stuff. Of course there are fans willing to ignore/overlook/move on from all sorts of shit (again - deep experience seeing that in another fan base). But if given the choice - which is the hypothetical here - I’d rather be a fan of a team not on the heels of that than one that is

That’s all my first comment said. If you’re gonna have to compartmentalize some past scandals they might as well be old

Yes the scandals did bother me when they happened. No, they’re not still impacting my ability to enjoy (or at least, attempt to enjoy lol) watching Michigan this year

And would you prefer to have not had to be bothered by them?

Penn state hasn’t had something similar in the last few years.
