Tbf, so do the Gophers. It will be an interesting game. Also, it may have sounded like I was making the assumption but I truly just wasn’t thinking about “hey, we still have to play Wisconsin” lol I was thinking “hey, we have the axe right now”
The part about the state fair broke me. Are they really displayed there? Are state fairs a big thing? I have seen deliverance so I've never even considered such a gathering in my home state :)
It is somewhat a midwest thing, but Minnesota is unique even in the midwest in how much we embrace our fair. It's by far the biggest fair in the country by average daily attendance, with more than 158,000 people per day (for 12 days, so almost 2 million visitors per year). The fairgrounds are also directly adjacent to the UMN campus, so they have always had a major presence at the fair, and yes, they always display whatever trophies the team is currently holding in the UMN building.
Minnesota has the best state fair in the country. Don’t let anyone from Texas fool you. We have a fairgrounds with a bunch of buildings and one of them is dedicated to the University of Minnesota and they definitely do display the trophies there. I’d recommend reading about the Minnesota State Fair. It’s quite the spectacle.
There was technically a 2 week window in 1978 when the gophers beat Iowa after beating Michigan and Wisconsin the year before, so they owned all 3. However they lost the jug and the axe to end the year so it didn't last long!
That’s the stat that got me. Two of the best rivalry trophies in the sport in the same building, and the Jug came home after waiting since 1977 to beat Michigan there. Now this is fun.
As someone born 2 weeks after that. And my 8 year old won his big game at the big house today. Weird! But f Michigan bunch of cheaters… but the stadium is cool

Minnesota has not held both the Axe and the Jug at the same time since November 7, 1987.
Good on you Gophers!
