You could retire, assume a cushy and very well-paid consulting gig and be forever embraced by a fanbase as the single most important figure in a program’s history and architect of what appears to be a foundation for great future success, and admire the statue that they will surely build of you outside the stadium for the rest of your days, or you could do… something else
He still could have taken the Michigan job and still be revered. Why not try your luck there for one more go. It was the amount of poaching that lost him the love of Utah.
I absolutely agree the fanbase will soften on Whitt after some time and people remember the good times. It also helps that Scalley hasn't missed a beat.
His last Utah contract would have paid him something like 2 million when he stepped down and a million a year for 5 years to be a “special consultant” and be available 10 hours a week.
Must be nice to be able to look at something like that and say nah lol. I mean at Michigan he’s getting the value of that whole deal in a year so whatever. I can’t say I wouldn’t be willing to piss off two schools and their fans and put up with everyone talking shit about me for $8mil a year either. But you also need time to enjoy your beach houses.
It has been so satisfying watching KW just utterly get destroyed by Ute fans, struggle at UM, get roasted by UM fans... We knew who he was all along. High five from a Y fan. BTW, your new coach is a huge improvement in the being a likeable human department. The holy war should be another good one this year.
But he didn’t and it is a telling ending to what should have been an epic career, instead he’s still getting $15M from your sucker of an AD this year, for raiding your team and leaving for Ann Arbor. A stand up person doesn’t do that to a program that he should have been grateful that was patient with him through some really questionable decisions when it came to offensive football.
It was just plain painful to watch the guy who was part of some great BYU teams not even be able to say those letters. The amount of toxicity that he brought to the rivalry was awful. Glad that he got sent on his retirement tour with some solid losses to BYU.
